Nayeon is known as the genius/ultimate idol in SK and her debut track "POP" just embodies what K-Pop is. It was solo debut done right 🥰JYP finally made the timing of their individual careers right~

“Talk That Talk” is a top 5 Twice title track for me, and it was amazing seeing how thrilled and energized the girls were performing it-a cathartic release, as it was their first song after they renewed their contracts and excited to continue their journey together. (Jihyo fancam from Inkigayo 220904 is a must.) It’s a shame it didn’t get any music show wins, but it was competing against the meteoric debut of New Jeans.

Even in the maximalist world of k-pop, Pop really stood out with its quantity of costumes; generally we only see like 3-4 outfits in a k-pop video. Cool that Flip even caught the MC Rail’s feature rap verse.

i think u guys confused the meaning of the “girl crush”, blackpink and everglow are considered “girl crush” which is usually defined by more hard hitting “cool” girls . Twice was “cute” and have now matured into a more refined “pop”/“elegant” concept generally “girly” and “hyper feminine” the opposite of “girl crush”

Thank you for embarking on the TWICE ride! As a ONCE, I'll try to be helpful in my comments, while taking into account that one of you is also a ONCE; so I'll try not to overstep my bounds by explaining too much :)
Just something to add that no one seem to have mentioned yet in the comments is for the "Talk That Talk" music video: the QR code (that you so easily dismissed ;) ) at the very end of it is not a marketing stunt :) It's actually a very thoughtful gesture since if you scan it, it redirects you to the post where they first announced the official TWICE fandom name: "ONCE"! Quite a nice gesture from them, wouldn't you agree? :)

Also, a very funny story about the issue with bubblegum pop. People's distaste with bubblegum pop actually bit everyone in the ass, because during the time of Pop's release, all the other songs in kpop at the time was so oversaturated with girlcrush and badass concepts and the genre of kpop were basically bland. when Pop was released, it became an instant hit because it brought back a breathe of fresh air, and massive punch of nostalgia, and great impact into the kpop scene because it brought back the bubblegum genre that absolutely no one was attempting at that time. this is why Pop became so successful, it's because it brought back what was missing during those days.

You should really check out Jihyo's Zone if you like power vocals, she gets a chance to cut loose on her solo. B-sides are where she usually shines, Brave, Last Waltz, Queen of Hearts (live clip version), Cruel, etc.
fun note : 'talk that talk' MV related to 'scientist' MV as the hand on big screen is Chaeyoung's hand as 'Chae-Stein' from 'scientist' (like 'mad scientist' or 'doctor No' in Jame bond)
so in 'Talk that talk', TWICE act like other group of spy (while in scientist, TWICE is other group of scientist) and try to save the cat from evil (manipulation, mind control) by trowing the hammer to the screen which also same scene as 'apple' commercial ad.(Y2K era)
(so it's happen during the time before the egg hatch in 'scientist' MV.)

Sorry guys, not just you two because I've read the comments and no one questioned what you said, I thought that girl crush and bubblegum pop were total opposites of each other. sounds like you are saying they are the same. Let me qualify my question by saying I'm a very old man who has only found K-pop 5 1/2 years ago and Twice 5 years ago and don't actually watch any one else so it's a serious question. The explanation won't change what I have to say but I need to know for my sanity. The reason it doesn't matter is because I don't think either describes what Twice has done from debut. To me cutesy (a word I hate) = aeageo=baby talk or acting like a 2 year old, granted some can do it but show me in an M/V where they did that. Silly yes, playful yes, 9 young ladies having fun hell yes but cutesy (bubblegum pop to me) nope. Take their songs what about them make them bubblegum take Like Oh-ah, don't know if you have kids but as a great grandfather (yea THAT old) I don't want some boy making my great granddaughter say OHHH AHHH, I'd be looking to hurt that young man. They are, as Flip said, catchy and fun and make you feel good because Twice tells you a story by whispering in your ear not slapping you across the face. I have much more I'd like to say but I'll just say that Twice is just different and the proof is no ONE has been able to make Twice's concept work for them and those who have tried change their concept after a short time. OT9 forever (TIMELESS).
