Tamiya's 1/35 Valentine Tank Build

- I've built Tamiya's 1/35 Valentine tank; my first in 1/35 scale. My aim was to practice my weathering technique with oils but Jeremy Corbyn'd out at the last moment and played safe with water based washes instead. Maybe because I was scared of chucking nearly 40 quid's worth of kit in the bin; maybe next time. I loved building this tank, even the tracks (TBH). P.S. I hate painting figures; another area that needs practice.

Excellent build one of the best I have watched for this model
Good work! It looks like another great Tamiya tank kit.
Splendid Valentine, like it!
This is the first video of yours I have seen. Straight up I’m a fan! Really nice work, the wear and weather look so realistic. I’m going to have to subscribe, oh did I mention how relaxing it was to watch. Great job!
Thank you.
Glad to see you tackle a tank build. Nice work. Looking forward to another one. cheers
Nice job of an often underappreciated tank.
Great video, I to wish they would bring the rubber band tracks back
Just watched this and I think you get a really nice tone on the paint which makes the model "pop". I;ve just finished the RFM Jagdpanther G2 with full interior. Quite a challenging build. It only has a "glass roof which isn't enough to see the interior detail so I got the dremel out and cut holes in the sides and top of the tank to make it like a museum piece. If you are up for a challenge I think it would be a good build for a little series of videos.
Nice build! No overdoing the weathering😊
Excellent first effort on tanks....love your crew figures ( be nice to see how you painted them!) as for the tracks, if you haven’t already, go find Andy’s Hobby Headquarters here on YT....he makes ‘link & length’ track fitting effortless....they are really the simplest form of tracks, even over vinyl ones. Your mistake ( and many make it...) is you fitted the idler and sprocket wheels then the tracks.....go look at Andy’s builds....all will become clear......but a lovely build mate.....👌🤙
Looks cool 😎👍
Looks fantastic mate. Great figure painting as well. As been said already check Andys headquarters build for link and length tracks.
One day I hope to be able to make a model half as good as that.
Love 1:35 scale, nicly done 👍 like to see more off this........
Love your work Greg, maybe you could do a video on some of the techniques that you use, for instance, weathering with the oils and painting your tools. What are you using for the wood paint for the tool handles?
Hi, I used Vallejo paints on the tools. For the handles a buff base coat colour to start, then a dark brown, this is wiped off with a sponge while still wet. The streaking, hopefully, should give a convincing wood grain effect.
Greg, where's the wings???? For your first tank, wow, you've done a brill job. If you want a euro tank next but would rather rubber band tracks Tamiyas Chieftan or any of their cheaper end of tanks are great and very easy for the newbie of tanks and armour. You've done great though, there's no stopping you now. If you need anything, info, who to talk to, books, kits, what to buy etc etc etc then give me a shout ill help as best I can or if I can't I will" know a man that can"!!!!! Ha ha. Hope your well, stay safe buddy
Cheers! Thanks will do 👍
Great vid Greg I just bought a miniart 1/35 T55 you might want to look at them lots of paint options (lots of track links too !) . Regards Gav.
Thanks Gav will do sounds good!
nice
Hermoso 😊
Good to see the crew added. Many modelers don’t seem to bother with them. It helps to add interest and give a sense of size. In this case, it makes one wonder how Vickers managed to wrestle a 6 pdr into the later variants of the Valentine!
You probably dont care but does anybody know a trick to get back into an Instagram account..?
I stupidly lost my login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Sutton Quinton instablaster :)
@Alberto Brody I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Alberto Brody it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account :D
@Sutton Quinton Happy to help :)
what brand of adhesive it was ? and the model was really perfect
Its a great kit as far as the build; Tamiya extra thin.
I wouldn’t recommend letting the link n link tracks to dry fully, because things will never fit as they’re suppose to once it’s dry, it makes painting a lot more difficult but I find it’s worth it in the end to suffer through a little bit more painting than normal to have the tracks fit properly, I personally LOVE link n link tracks, they’re so much fun to put on
Andy’s hobby headquarters has an excellent video on how to do the link n link.
I hate these type of tracks. Much prefer decent rubber bands, as in the Tamiya Cromwell. I like your build - neatly painted and the crew look good too.
So, apart from the tracks, it 'should' be ok for someone starting 1/35 scale armour??
Any Tamiya armour kit is always a good start.

The tracks are why I avoid tanks
