Thank you for the tip to hold the alt/option key down while sliding the masking in the sharpening panel. I didn't know I could view how much of the image was being sharpened.
For.someone getting back to photo editing this was one of the things I would wonder all the time..Some of it was intuitive but your video spells it out. Thank you.
I have typically found that while I try to have "pure black" in my image (if there were areas of pure black in the scene), I am reluctant to have areas of pure white. My thought process is this. While pure white might be great on a computer monitor, if I someday choose to print the image pure white will be a spot on which there is no ink. I will always have some tone (no matter how slight) so there are no areas without any ink.

Yes that's why I do not clip the whites. If nothing is clipping there is no areas of pure white.
