Thank you, I was thinking just the same thing - especially about the repetition of how long, great, legendary, a challenge, a test etc. the Nurburgring is.
I love this track to death. There's nothing like it. The exhilarating speed, the g force, the powertrain noise screaming in your control of the throttle, the sliding you experience when your tires starting to wear, the first experience of under /over steering, and the long stretch once you made it through all the turns. It's....... It's really a beautiful experience.
I'm living near to the Nurburgring. It's not only the weather itself - it is that you have very different weather conditions in *one* lap. There are many days when you have ice and snow in the first part, then a wet area where it's raining and a sunny dry one. Also the weather changes very fast due to the exponed location. Another difficulty is that you have different surfaces all the time. The Nurburgring is a real challenge for cars
@123jogger123 - I was there on opening week of Touristenfahrten back in March 13 of 2006. On my 1st lap coming out of the gate from under the bridge through Tiergarten all the way toward Aremberg, the weather, while track itself was a bit damp from melting ice, was nice and sunny. By the time I'm approaching Fuchsröhre the sky dimmed and it started to drizzle a bit. Then before Kesselchen I see flurries of snow. As I made my way down Hohe Acht and through the downhill squiggly turns the sun was out again and the blinding reflection from the melting snow on the side of the road was in my face and I had to slow down for the icy runoff as the back of my FF Gulf TDI rental car was stepping out LOL. Only in Nordschleife where a plowing front wheel drive front engine car could actually inadvertently have its back end break loose! Lap 2, the weather condition reversed; Lap 1 conditions no longer applied... LOL! One got to actually be there to know what I mean ROFL!
I dream of living near it your so lucky to be able to experience this one of Kind strip or tarmac, tell me. How does it feel to arrive at the track in the morning
what I learned about Nürburgring Nordschleife: > Hyundai did not build the Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai tests their family cars at Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai buys expensive inspection equipment, to use in marketing videos > Hyundai has set no records at Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai has not demonstrated any significant innovations at Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai must have slipped the video producer some money Seriously, there is some very good history about the Nürburgring Nordschleife in this video, and Hyundai has been an amazingly successful startup .... but the Hyundai segments are crudely interjected into this video production in a way that makes the viewer angry at Hyundai for duping them into watching a commercial. Maybe only a couple Hyundai snippets, and a sponsored by Hyundai text in the credits .. would have been much more effective at selling their brand.
@@jumpercable20 Those don't need to advertise (even though they do). I cannot afford a Ferrari, Porsche, or Lamborghini. I can afford a Hyundai, though.
That paint stripping story at 13:36 is a notorious myth. It has been thoroughly debunked in recent years. The story was invented by Alfred Neubauer in his autobiography in 1957. Also, Mercedes racing cars only became known as silver arrows in the 1950's. The phrase was not used in the 1930's.
The dislikes are because its a vague repetitive Hyundai advertisement posing as a documentary...... auto manufacturers test at the Nurburgring, the Nurburgring is used by all of the worlds major manufacturers for testing, German manufacturers test at the Nurburgring, Italian manufacturers test at the Nurburgring, its the toughest track in the world, thats why manufacturers test here, they test engines, transmissions and brakes, Korean manufacturers test here too, its the toughest track in the world so its great for automotive testing....things like brakes transmissions and engines are pushed to the limit here at the Nurburgring. I have loved driving go carts to race cares all my life. I’m 67 years and would wish I could take one lap on this track. I don’t think you have lived until you drove this track but sadly it won’t happen for me. Love watching the young to the old drive it. I’m so jealous of the ones who get to drive. If I lived there I would drive it all the time.
It's awesome and so on, but I would like to see a quality in-depth, full length, HD-where-new-footage documentary on the Südschleife. There is so little footage of it and it was part of the original Gesamtstrecke.
I'm just gonna say thank you for uploading this even though i haven't even watched it yet. I am so in love with the Ring. Hopefully i will buy my Audi R8 this year and visit every year from this year onwards.
+AA Nordschleife Media yeah, anyway thanks for sharing this epic documentary video. And thanks to CarThrottle to posted this video so I can know this video.
even tho hyundai was advertised and most shown. I never considered buying a hyundai but after this video, after all these tests, i'm surprised at the quality standards of that brand
What are you talking about Bo? They are one of the safest cars, have the best crash test ratings.. They are not just pretending to do this for the video.
They still should have done a better job. The voice over recording would have almost certainly been done by reading a translated transcript, so it could have been done by anyone. It didn't have to be the translator.
a lot of people are pretty hard on the Hyundai development but to me this is kind of a good video to show how teams will develop cars and how the track is used to build those cars. plus it goes through history of the track and it does a decent job in my mind.
I just found out Hitler spent a lot of time in Nurburg during his military build up under the Versailles Treaty just recently,. His monies for the Germany turn economic turn-around after the WW1 sanctions. Very random, I know but this doc was right after that. Anyways, back to racing
Yeah, I love Assetto Corsa and the Nordschleife in it, too. I was shockingly proud when I did a 6:57.7 in a Ferrari 599XX Evo recently. I guess not risking your life makes things easier :D
N Performance Division. Haha. I know Hyundai has paid top dollar for Peter and his European buddies from Audi and ///Motorsport. But N Performance Division? I'd think they can come up with a better name. Assuming the car under development is the Hyundai Elantra GT N. GTI and Type R fighter. Great doc Auto Addict guys. Fan of the channel.
HYUNDAI are probably the only car company to spend that amount on CT scanning their metal. This is why you should NOT use RECYCLED washing machines to make cars from..... Other companies JUST BUY GOOD METAL..
I think it's an Asian thing, Sony execs will talk Japanese when addressing a crowd, and have a junior employee translate to English. I think it has to do with them not wanting to butcher a language they don't speak fluently, so they have someone else do it.
It is perfectly fine to translate and not to ask a person that doesn't speak a language to try and use it. But if you are going to dub someone, why the fuck would you than ask a voice actor to put fake accent. It is stupid and wrong on so many levels....
Great documentary... love the track and the history... but following the development of a friggin' hatchback Hyundai 4 cylinder is like watching a following of a tee ball kids team to Yankees stadium.
IOM TT circuit is longer at nearly 40 miles a lap, although they are closed off public roads, it's still nearly twice as long per lap thou. I have been round both circuits with my old man driving me when I was about 10-11, in a car at the Nürburgring and on a bike on the TT circuit.
The wording they choose in the video is the longest lap, they say it a couple of times, despite the TT course only being part time it is a longer lap. The roads that go to make up the TT course are maintained to race track standards despite being used very little outside of the actual race, the other thing is that the IOM doesn't have a speed limit on most of the roads that go to make up the course so you can use them full speed for free.
IOM isn't an FIA approved track because the FIA doesn't oversee motorcycle racing. Strictly speaking, the Nurburgring is a one way toll road and is policed as such when the public drives on it. It's the longest circuit still used for car racing, though.
Great video, even with the Hyundai elements... odd that they did not post a lap time for all of the effort and expense this venture must have incurred. Have logged hundreds of laps of the ring on GranTurismo... definitely top of the "bucket list" to get there in person. Thank you for posting this !
I get the impression that Hyundai were not ready to post a lap time. Certianly the cars we see in the video are no sub-7 minute monsters like Porsche or McLaren.
I did enjoy the early BMW M3 footage in the nurburgring. I got to drive one of those in 89' and it handles and brakes very well. I also drove a Porsche 930 turbo of about the same era. The Porsche was faster but I think the BMW had better handling and definitely braking.
No, it's not funny, you're just wrong about its purpose. They do that camo so the first official pictures of the car [its important for forming impressions] are released by the manufacturer under controlled conditions, not some paparazzis from the bushes.
If you knew where the term "Made in Germany" came from, you would be surprised about your comment. In the early days, the British produced the best quality of products. The Germans (most notably the now well known Krupp group) went to England to do industrial espionage. The British then coined the term "Made in Germany" to mark inferior copies of British designs. Up until the Germans became better and the terms meaning did a 180 degrees turn, and stood for quality. Inspiration is a process of copying.
As a member of the British public I first went there after the Top Gear Jag under 10 mins and when I got there all the regulars said that Top Gear had wrecked the Nordschleife
people who own million dollar cars dont worry about money lol. there is no telling them whats not worth what, most of the owners prob have upward of 50-200 to a billion dollars. Buggatis dont do shit on that track LOL
i dream of driving this track in real life. the most laps i've ever completed on sim if i remember right is 45 in a row. i was pooped at the end of it. i don't pace myself lol. i bought 8 double shot espresso to beat my record tonight. currently on lap 21.
I was about to ridicule the bit about video games, but then I remembered I looked for that docummentary because I enjoyed this track in Ride 2. On a side note, this thing is really a commertial. For Opel and BMW. I mean, the track stewards use them there, so they're obviously better than that Korean thing, desperate to show it's not only for people who don't care about cars.
Hyundai only has a recent and peripheral relationship with the Nurburgring, so it totally makes sense to dedicate half of the documentary about the Nurburgring to this company. It feels so much like clickbait. Give us something we want to see, but splice in an informercial we have to either grimace through or skip MULTIPLE times. If it was a company that was there from the beginning, OR multiple companies were interviewed from long time users to newcomers, that would make sense.

At least some of the machine operators and computer designers are hot aisan chicks.
For real I’m watching for the track not fucking Hyundai

A totally interesting and professional video. The Hyundai bit tied it all nicely together.
It's amazing how many car companies forget over time that racing sells cars.
"Win on Sunday, sell on Monday"
It also advances technology as well as learning how to make a tire, not slip in the rain.
I thought this was a documentary about the nordschlife, not hyundai...
Awesome! Thank-you! I drove it in 1991 and also went around it in 10:00 with a semi-pro driver! So fun!

If you're gonna dub an asian person, instead of subtitles, why would you tell the voice-actor to put on an accent and mispronounce words?
I actually think they grabbed some asian guy from the street and made him read the text. Sounds like he learned english about two days ago.
no?

While this is in parts an ad for Hyundai, I feel the real world example is a great way to showcase NB outside of pure racing. Adds more to the story.

Frank Van Meel is the devil. This video captures him with red horns clearly visible to the camera lol
Was great to watch. :D All though Forza gave a feeling where the track wasn't dangerous or bumpy compared to Assetto Corsa, iRacing or GT Sport.
Well done.

This makes me want to open up PCars and my put on my DK2 :D
pcars sucks though.
I hope you have Assetto Corsa, PCars2 and a Rift or Vive by now ;)
The most beautifull track in the world. See you sunday 11/06 with my MX5 ND white ;) and many other MX5
The camouflage wrap is funny...the worlds biggest copycats are worried about being copied...lol
I failed to see the point, it's not camouflaging anything but the paint.
@writerconsidered It hides body lines and makes it hard to see the details of a vehicle. Super common on prototype cars.
No, it's not funny, you're just wrong about its purpose.

Why would someone thumb down this vid? haha... Anyway, great docu.
I didn't realize this was 45 mins until it was too late
0:55 Is it just a coincidence that the two red capital "A"s give this guy devil's horns every time he appears?
It doesn't take any more laps to learn than another track. It's just that the same number of laps takes 5x as long.
Am I the only one who knows every corner in this track?
I spent hours in this track in every single Motorsport game I played.
MINICARLOS S29 same but I get taken out at the carousel every time in an online race.
Thomas Horsemanko Exactly and I just I finished race which took me 3 hours around this track
That's why you draft until the apex finishes and pedal right past the FUCKERS!!!
If you only spent time on this track in a game I seriously doubt you know every corner, let alone being the only one. Get over yourself.
I still find it funny that Porsche built a car that cost almost a million dollars to go 3 sec. faster than a Dodge that costs a bit over 100,000
$200 000 per second faster isn't worth it. A supercharger or built motor and better tires for an ACR makes more cents to me.
1million to 100k, doesn't matter. Porsche holds more race records than any other company. 'Nuff said.
people who own million dollar cars dont worry about money lol. there is no telling them whats not worth what, most of the owners prob have upward of 50-200 to a billion dollars. Buggatis dont do shit on that track LOL
How could you not talk about DTM....
Can you master the Nürburgring? I guess Porsche did with the 919Evo.
Wonderful ducumentary. Thanks for uploading.
1 KM on the Nuerburgring = 30 KM on Open Road
i dream of driving this track in real life. the most laps i've ever completed on sim if i remember right is 45 in a row. i was pooped at the end of it. i don't pace myself lol. i bought 8 double shot espresso to beat my record tonight. currently on lap 21.
At 20 seconds an Audi TT spins out, that wing spoiler is exactly what I'm looking for, any info would be greatly appreciated.
Great Doc, had to skip the Hyundai parts though.
Why does he say only 73 corners? Its twice that ! Over 140!
