The Big Money was one of his best drum arrangements. So detailed but so slick.
I will never get over this mans passing.
I'm with you bro 🤘
Eu tbm!! Grande ser humano!!
even if he were alive and in perfect health, he'd still never be playing live again
@@shaunsteele8244 True, but he’d be alive.
@@birdg2112 Good reply!
The coolest drum arrangements EVER. Neil is the GOAT.
It is just ridiculous how good he is
Don’t know how he was able to hit the drums that hard in every song for so many years. My favorite drummer for all time.
He did develop tendonitis...but not until he was over 60 and had been doing it for 40 years!
I am so impressed by how he remembers all of the parts and details of the drum arrangement. 99% of todays drummers probably wouldn’t be able to remember just the first minute. What a fantastic Drummer Neil was
I guess I’m part of the 1% then lol
His talent went way beyond that though. He innovated a LOT of new techniques and inspired a couple new generations of drummers. His legacy will be felt for as long as this civilization lasts.
This is what it would sound like if Neil Peart lived in the apartment above you....but that would be ok!
lmfao oh to be able to complain about that! What I wouldn't give...
That would be a dream 💭 come true.
Lol
Neil Peart approached the drum kit like an Olympian does their feat of competition.
I will never get tired of watching these videos. SO grateful to all that he gave us. His music, his lyrics, his prose writing, his books, his life philosophies... the list goes on. Such and inspiring human. And look at the end of the video... they say there are no female RUSH fans. The Bones tour was my first. I got to meet the band in Oakland thanks to Primus's tour manager.
Thank you for putting this up on UA-cam!! This was just pure joy. Big Money is my favorite Rush song because his drum arrangement is so BADASS!! I ❤️ it!! RIP Neil Peart-The Professor.
Man!!!! is not only that he is a master at techniques but si the way he approche the drum catching the spirit of the song. If you hear the druming sounds like a industrial machine, very squared, very tight..... the little details of the professor.
Every maple leaf in the world rocking to this talent - long live canada
He always served the song.....never overplaying...what an inspiration he was!!!! The world truly lost an evolved human being.
and that, ladies and gentlemen, is how it is done. good grief what talent and skill put on display.
The stars aligned when he came along.
Damn he hit hard.
The time changes are amazing!
My man is killin those drums!!! Miss you Neil....and seeing the whole group in concert!!!!
The ferocity and raw power is amazing. I'll never cease to miss him.
Neil Peart was a drum machine and lyricist all in one! Simply the best!🥁😔
Majestic.
It´s unbelievable what Mr. Peart did in this amazing video. He was a great drummer, a genuis. RIP Mr. Peart...always be remembered as one of the greatest......thanks for everything you gave us
WHOLE. LEE. SHIT!
The power.
The precision.
And -- oh, yeah -- he likes to dabble in next-level lyrical poetry that makes you think.
RIP to the GOAT.
Wow that is incredible what a technician!!
Personally, I think this album and hold your fire, is the pinnacle of their arrangements and technology - some of the hardest played live
Wild seeing all the stuff going on in this song and his arrangements fit so well incorporating digital samples with acoustic drums guy could play tennis back there on this chart . Another note you see the shear raw power he pounds the hell out of drum then changes his approach once he studied with Fred grubber plays it with more finesse later tours but switched back to matched grip on charts he plays prior to Freddy instruction era . Miss the boys on stage
Watch Neil Peart play the drums. Play like no other !!! I hope you seen RUSH live cause you will see and hear like no other !!! RIP Neil Peart RUSH
Man, imagine playing with that heat underneath you. Geddy and Alex were lucky!
The entire Album is one of their best right there with Waves, Pictures and Grace. The rest was ok until the end when it was fun again. The earlier albums were another music, genius as well.
Neil Peart University is still accepting applications. 1st assignment: Watch Exit Stage Left Live in 1981 and study Xanadu and notice how Neil drives the bus. Neil Peart University Alumni ( TM ). All you need is some headphones and sticks to attend. Tuition is free. Each year the classes never fill up because people will never stop studying Neil’s drumming. Professor Peart is the only instructor. See you all there! Thanks Neil!
this makes me wish I was born earlier. Atleast I get to watch the video tho
The way he approaches this is a great example why I prefer him to (insert drum God name here). So much variety to the playing in the various parts, but it still flows so seamlessly and is so cohesive and complimentary to the song. The drums are just as signature as anything else in the song.
They were in the presence of greatness! So cool to see the footwork too.
It's kinda refreshing to hear that, without the magic of mics and audio engineering, Neil's kit sounds a bit like my ol' 85 Pearl Export from back in the days when I spent hours & hours learning & playing this song
while crammed into a corner of my teenage bedroom.
You do realize this isn't an accurate representation of how that kit sounds IRL right? The camcorders around this time had very poor mics for live recordings
I know this because I was in a band in 93' and have recorded footage of my drums, which sound horrible and nothing like what they actually sounded like IRL
I'm certain that kit sounded incredible in person without mics, that was my dream kit, it was a beautiful custom Ludwig kit
Incredible time capsule of an incredible musician
Thanks for sharing. This is so great! I’m pretty sure this is a drum clinic Neil did for the drum school students at Musician's Institute in Hollywood. I was at the guitar school there in 89-90 and Neil and Geddy had done clinics there earlier in the 80s. 1985 maybe?
Neil was an absolute force on the drums. He’s mashing them. This song has it all. Power, intricate stuff, dynamics. Thanks for the music, Neil! 👊
Proof that cameras make it look worse than it actually is. Neil still makes it look like he was the greatest.
Fantastic recording angle and sound.
I can forever wonder in his spectacular talent and fluid rhythm.he is the professor and aDr. because he fill our prescription for the best mood lifter in the world 🌎...music.hes always around just push play!
The consistancy, he had to be easy to work with in the studio. I sure miss him. He would have hated the state of today's popular music.
His technique where he reversed his drumsticks for heavier blows really shows here. He wasn't called The Professor for no reason.
@@peterheijnen33 And visited at least one museum at each city they played at. He was constantly learning about art and literature.
The boys thought his attitude resembled the professor on the TV show ‘Gilligan’s Island’. 💀
Fatter, not heavier.
I toured for about 20 years as a drummer.
I had always tried to get to either a “local history” type museum, or even just the “Visitors Center” to get a feel for the town, city, country.
Yeeeeears later I found out that my hero Neil had done similar things !!
😊❤️🎶🥁
Masterclass professor Peart hard at work miss you buddy RIP 🙏
He is a master. Indeed The Professor.
What a privilege it has been to be captivated by such an achiever. The Professor won gold every time.
I saw them for The Powerwindows tour back in Feb 86,with Steve Morse opening! What A Show of The Hands and then some!
A literal machine.
Neil pounded those drums.
Yep,that's exactly how I play it. Well done.
Those drum heads are taking a pounding.
Who can be better, no one,
The human drum machine. The one!
2:44 forever one of my fav transitions . 😢RIP professor thank you for your legacy
Good God that man was the man
Ah, Neil. I'll always miss you buddy.
Love watching his footwork on this.
I, like many, studied the rush songs note for note....hour after hour....day after day....big money was certainly on the list.....could not get enough. In retrospect I wish I would have spent more time studying other great drummers and musicians in general. But finally figuring out a tough time change passage or intricate bit of independence on a rush song was always quite an accomplishment and definitely a whole lot of fun. I can't believe the amount of musicians this band inspired. Just phenomenal. RIP Neil.
The Roll the Bones tour was one of my favorites! The Garden, Meadowlands, NJ Arts Center.... etc
Questions arise on who was/is the greatest drummer of all time. This video confirms his unearthly talent. GOD ON DRUMS!!!
What a horrible loss :( The man was truly one of the greatest of all time and I feel so lucky to have grown up as they were live and progressing. God bless....
Neil!!!! 😊🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘♥️🇧🇷 The Professor!!!!!!
Monstro sagrado da bateria. Pra mim, melhor do mundo. Perda inestimável pro Rock e nós fãs.
Now I’m deaf. But happy.🤟
I am simply impressed you got the isolated drum audio. This was from a veeery long time ago.
He was a very hard hitter
like Tyson on drums
Jon Bonham was once asked, "what's it like being the worlds best drummer?"
Jon replied, "I don't know...why don't you ask Neil Peart!"
Im not sure if its known that he said that. I keep hearing that same phrase about alex being said by eddie van halen and other guitarists, and same with other drummers for neil. There are a lot of people who still think bonham was better than neil. But neil himself has said there are many drummers better than him that play stuff he cant play, which is true. Difference is neils lyrics. No drummers can match that.
I'd like to believe that it's true, but I doubt it. Considering that John Bonham died in 1979..That's 5 years after Neil joined Rush. He hadn't had time to establish his status yet and was probably still running below the radar of most other drummers at that point.🤔
@@HighPower762 You're right....I was just using different names for a chuckle. The actual question was asked to Eric Clapton as a guitarist. He replied, "why don't you ask Prince." That one DID happen. Still would have been cool to see Neil and Jon meet!
"You can't always believe quotes you read on the internet" - Abraham Lincoln.
I miss Neil. 🥁
And there it is🙏🙌👏🎶⭐💪👁👆
Snare wires turned off at 2:45 ...back on at 3:44. So cool.
very awesome
Bicycle helmet days!
It’s amazing how much better the Vibrafibed Ludwig kits sounded that the cutting edge dw stuff.
GOAT
Is Bubba wearing shorts !!! Go Professor 🔥🔥🔥🤘🏻
I looked up to Neil
Amazing
the acoustic sound of the drums.. that is what they hear 0nstage..part of it mixed with the monitoring/foldback
I need to make a time machine and some how become part of this crowd.
When you take away all of the producing it can expose flaws but Neil nailed it
Sure do miss that guy
Mestre!
fucking murdering that snare. love it.
I honestly think these drums sound pretty crispy compared to the other drum sounds of these era
Pretty awful sounds coming at ya.
@@michaelroecker2649 of the ones on like counterparts, it's definitely better, just has more dynamics, wished he played with that setup more
@@michaelroecker2649 Neil's Ludwigs that he is playing here were Neil's best sounding live kit. Get a clue. You are basing your opinion on a drum clinic taped by a VHS recorder? LMAO
@@keyonkelly5693 The drums here are the same drums used on Counterparts. Counterparts drum sound as AWESOME. One of the best sounding Rush records from a sonic perspective.
I started to watch his left foot, looking for when he hits the trigger. I noticed that he would take his foot off the trigger, and instead of putting it down next door on the hi hat pedal, he would sometimes go past it to the left kick pedal. He didn't play it, just seemed to set his foot there for a second before going to the hats, or back to the trigger. You can see it repeatedly from 3:30 - 4:00. Wonder why he did that?
Really gets Next Level creative at 2:35. This is about as crude of a recording as you could get and it still sounds pristine. Has an effect triggered by his left foot. Guessing the middle position in between that and the bass drum is just a resting spot?
Middle position is the standard hi-hat pedal, & to his right is the double bass beater pedal.
i never noticed his left foot seemed to be hitting someone further left than his hi hat every once in a while. Was that a trigger of something? And i noticed a few double bass drum moments as well.
Ohhh yea
Tumble of the dice.
What is the context of this video clip? Is this some sort of drum clinic/demo that he did?🤔
Rip
It's funny people actually think john Bonham was better than him. Neil could do anything Bonham ever did in his life by the age of 23 . He's the greatest rock drummer of all time no argument
here at 14,601 views what is it now?
Just Like Taylor Hawkins Said,He Had The Hands Of God,end of Story!JcsxTake care nah!RUSH people!
Yeah that's Neal Pert he plays like that! RIP Neal!
Neil Peart
@@Brettsforehead I really hate when people mispronounce his name! Even Taylor Hawkins got it wrong at their induction into the rock and roll hall of fame!🙊
Just a sound test. Nothing to hear or see here. ;)
In the bridge, could we have a little more authority at 3:37?
How to build a tendonitis factory...
Makes it look almost effortless. Dude was automatic...
Ludwigs ❤ before that DW crap.
imagine being there, because this vhs quality is total garbage
Never
Everyone is forgetting a very important fact he never gave a rats ass about his fans
Neil was shy.
Neil literally responded personally by letter to all his fans who wrote to him via Modern Drummer until the internet came around & word spread. He was bombarded with thousands of letters he couldn't feasibly answer & apologized he could do it anymore. Granted, he's not as open as Geddy & Alex, but he's reserved & fame can get to a person like Neil. I'm sure he appreciated his fan in his own guarded way.
