Dating is an unavoidable topic here in Colombia and I guess even more in Medellin. But how do you date here? Is it the same as back home, what do you have to watch out for...... So many questions have been asked over and over again.
There are so many posts about dating on the famous expat groups on Facebook, that we thought it would be great to make an event out of it. We got invited to co-host the dating event and make a video for even more people to see it and learn from it.
In today's video, you see Ana (Colombian) our partner that helps Expats for over 2 years relocating to Medellin. And Jarrod (US) was married to a Colombian for over 10 years, talking about the stuff they learned while dating foreigner and locals in Colombia.
How To Expat is usually not the platform to talk about dating stuff because, we are not dating and therefore can't share our experiences. And second, topics like that attract people that we don't want to attract (people looking for prostitutes, just sex and nothing else). There are enough YT channels talking about such topics.
But still, we know it is important for a lot of people to find the right person here and that's why we wanted to share a few important points Ana and Jarrod made. We hope you can learn some things from the video and find "the one".

If your woman gets out of pocket and loses her temper, you need to put her on check. Don’t tolerate bad behavior.
I am going to be completely honest, I visit Colombia and dated several Colombian women, they are very nice , fun and easy on the eyes, and the the thing is they know men want them! especially the younger women, but my experience is that if you are a gringo, 90% of the women is only interested in your money, this women is is not telling all the truth, it really takes a lot of work to find a Colombian women who is just interested you, my experience is it starts off good, then maybe a week later they are asking for financial support and trying to turn you into a Western Union Gofer. Not being negative but proceed with caution and take it very slow!

Out of curiosity, how old are you?
You are being conservative saying 90% of them. It's more like 99.9% in my experience. They are lazy AF in replying to texts unless you mention something about buying a gift then they reply in 3 seconds. You're better off just hiring prostitutes in Medellin. At least they are honest about what they want from you.

Another great way to meet someone is by taking a class. Cooking and dancing classes are great. Universities offer continuing education classes for adults as well. You ca learn something new, better yourself and meet new and interesting people. 🤓
Otra gran manera de conocer a alguien es tomando una clase. Las clases de cocina y baile son geniales. Las universidades ofrecen clases de educación continua para adultos también. Puedes aprender algo nuevo, mejor tú mismo y conocer gente nueva e interesante. 🤓

coming from Europe, where girls / women mostly insist to pay their own bill on a date and being to Brazil, where that happens often too (I even had a girl pay for me), Colombia seems to be VERY old fashioned in this...

No true, as Colombian I paid for my own things. I have even pay for my ex many things, trips to go to Thailand, Iceland, Spain and so many other places as I love to travel. He finished with me because he felt less man, who understands man🤷♀️
From other videos I’ve seen, if a girl is even willing to pay for her own stuff she’s a keeper cuz the thought behind it is, she might not have that much but that shows her character like she doesn’t have much in money aspect but she’s still willing to pay her own way
The girl was absolutely spot on with her information. I have been talking to a girl from Bucaramanga for almost a year now. She is the sweetest girl ever. We have talked EVERYDAY since the first day. I have been learning Spanish to communicate with her since she doesn't know much English. We talk on WhatsApp sometimes in text, sometimes with voice messages, and sometimes with video messages, and it is just chit chat about our daily lives. The age difference has NOT been a factor. I treat her with respect and don't talk at or below her. Las mujeres Colombianas son muy, muy cariñosas, si eres real, genuina, respetuosa y las tratas bien.
Better be careful. She might only be after your money.

@@mitch5775 Eeehhh, I think cautiousness is always fair when you haven't met the person. He also mentions her being much younger than himself. He also seems to say that they've never video chatted, but have only "sometimes sent video messages" - apart from that it's just texting and voice messages. That's a little weird for something going on for a year. And it doesn't take more than a single time sending a thousand dollars for something to be with it for her.
I'm not saying that's the situation - I'm just saying it's fair to advocate cautiosness.
@@PhilipZeplinDK the girls that hustle gringos in Colombia are not the type to a spend a year getting to know you before they ask for money. It's a waste of time for them because they don't know if you are the type of guy that is stupid enough to send money to a girl you've never met without asking, and talking for an entire year simply too much time for them to know if their intended scam is going to work or not. They typically come off very strong, and tell you they love you within the first month. Not much later they ask for money. It's a simple formula for them. Spending a year before the initial ask is just stupid because a majority of men will not send money to someone they've never met in real life. They need to at least ask for something small after a month or two to know if you are worth continuing trying to scam.
Further than that, you seem to lack the belief that there are good women in third world countries looking for a good man in first world countries. These women do know that you will take care of them if you end up getting married. Any good man is willing to take care of his wife. They could be spending significant amounts of time getting to know you because they want you to think about marriage with them, but that's not worth "advocating caution" because it's a man's decision to ask a woman to marry him. A woman has no say in the matter.

It is my impression that too many of the videos considered for expats or people considering "expating" in Colombia are a tad too Medellin-oriented. I would really like to see some empiricly curated "data"/science that compares life/culture/lifequality/gringo-colombiana interaction etc for instance between Cartagena/Baranquilla/Bogota/Medellin/Santa Marta

Just remember if they ask you to take them to Santa Fe Mall horta Los Molinos Mall or if they ask you to buy them a cell phone or a motorbike or if they tell you their uncle needs clubfoot surgery or their kid needs tuition for their private school run as fast as possible in the opposite direction

Do more on this subject, at least for single men this is one of the area we like to know more about to help in making a decision to move to Columbia. Yes cost of living and other topics covered in other veidos are important, however it is not the complete package. Another topic I would suggest is the cost of purchasing a car.

Yes, another topic related to dating is any interest dating sites to meet Colombians. An unrelated topic is comparing the price of various money transfer service. This would be from the U.S. to Columbia. I found RIA is having the best rate & fees. You may want to check out Charles Schwab debit card as well. This is a U.S. based company. If you have a debit card you can withdrawal money out of any ATM in the world and not have ANY FEES ALL! Any fees charged from any ATM are reimbursed at the end of the month. You get the local rate by using this card.

Agree with you 100%. Age difference is not an issue in Colombia and many other countries outride of the US. In fact, a lot of women prefer an older man because he is more mature, more experienced and knows what he wants.

The main point these videos always seem to overlook is if you are a guy and you think you because you are throwing money that you should get the sexiest and wildest women then you should probably expect the women to only want your money until the next guy waving cash comes around. The guys that has no good qualities but expects to buy time with supermodels is as bad in my opinion as the attractive women who only wants to be pampered until someone with more money comes along. I can cook and clean for myself! How many Colombian women can help with the bills if times get tough. Moreover, not every American is blonde hair blue eyed and White. She will most likely look at you as a meal ticket. Honestly, I’m just speaking for myself. I can’t see myself traveling to foreign country just to find a wife solely for her looks and youth. She will get to the states an learn the ropes, and possibly leave you for a better looking guy.
