I had a Maserati 4200 Spyder Cambiocorsa for 3 years and put 15,000 miles on it, and I absolutely loved it. I loved the incredible engine, the sound, the rarity, the looks, it was such a great car. I also had a Porsche 996 C4S Convertible, and while most people would argue that was a better car, it isn't the one I look back on and yearn to have another day with. The Mas might not be for everyone, but it was glorious to me.
I had a GT 4.7 for 6 years. Keep it on trickle charge if you’re not driving it regularly. If the battery voltage drops, you’ll get all sorts of errors, and it shags the electronic handbrake. Keep an eye on rear brakes. “Spirited” driving can lead to them being worn well before the fronts need doing. Discs are stupid expensive, but if you get the identical parts in an Alfa box, they’re cheaper . Other things that go are the ABS sensors, which mean new hubs at a grand apiece; parking sensors; headlamp main-beam steering units, and front springs. They’re expensive cars to maintain if you use them as a “daily”, as I did mine. The sound almost makes up for all the hassle. Almost.
How often is often?. I put a voltage meter on mine and it was 12.3V... Probably every 3 weeks I'll throw on the charger to give it a top up... Everything you say is right... I'm having the occasional issue with the handbrake, But I think it was when I forgot to disengage when driving off... cheers for the tips
@@peterlattimore6013 I’d say at least twice a week. I just used to put the trickle charger in through the power socket in the boot, then carefully close it over the power cable and leave it permanently attached. I lived in London at the time so it only got driven at weekends. I termed it “daily driver” because it was my only car.
@@yevgenymyronov5337 not at idle however...don't like how car dealers let em idle... not good for carbon build-up not necessarily with the 4.7, but heard it takes 15 km-10mile to charge what it took to crank?.
Hi James, definitely YES to the badges. That unique Maserati soundtrack will eat into your soul. Watch the movie Intouchables if you haven't already seen it, and go for a really long trip where you require more luggage space or people space than your 550 can provide...and I'm sure you will gel. Maybe get a shared ownership thing going on with a mate?
The badges are a must as most other comments suggest. The corrosion protection is a very wise move. Tonight is our fist gritting lorry outing....grrrrrr. Another 👍🏻s for a great YT vid.
Put the tridents back 100% and I’m glad you’ve done the ICE upgrade, I’m so glad that people are now starting to offer this service which essentially leaves much loved /classic/ older / keeper cars OEM but with the splash of modern technology we all desire, there are also guys out there that will replace the screen to a more high resolution one (no plastic filter??? And I must say I’ve never come across the unsightly usb cable on a professional installation costing £1K but I guess that’s probably the best you’ll get with the Maserati at the moment? ) and if you desire they’ll also discretely install front and rear parking cameras! Nice car but easily forgettable, even in low numbers it doesn’t give me the goose bumps to think I’d ever want one, very plain, very old conservative man’s wagon, I just don’t think it’s aged well look wise unlike it’s siblings the coupes and the cabriolets which still look beautiful and sound amazing and give you instant thoughts of Ferrari engined drama
I love thy Maze. It is a great car if you can do your basic maintenance . I got a cracked coolant reservoir. Easily fixed and coolant change. The engine is superior. Really great traction and sport drive. Italian style
9:35 - 'The sensible car on the driveway.' I think your definition of 'sensible' differs from most others, but brought a smile to my face, nonetheless.
I did the corrosion treatment to my Granturismo MCShift at Sports Italia thanks to one of your previous videos’ mentioning of the service they offer a few months back! Wish I’d known about it before (had the car nearly 4 years already before I did it) but glad to have had it done. They said it didn’t look too bad down there, so hopefully I got away with it!
I'm sure this quattroporte will be able to impress you in the coming months if you give it a chance to ... How could it not? The trident-badges, I'd fit them ... Once you noticed they ought to be there, It would always be like something's missing in that C-pillar. But of course, it is your car, so you can choose what you like the most.
Thanks Jay, My 4.7 QP5 S is in with AutoShield in Chorlton right now and I've asked them about the rust proofing of the sub-frame. I love mine to bits. You also had my old 760Li as well (It's Joel has it for sale again!)
Thanks J, always enjoy Maserati content! I think the badges should be replaced, it lifts the C pillar detailing, & without them, it makes you wonder why they're not there!
Our Jaguars of the same era suffered from major rust problems as well. Being able to withstand rust is the most basic requirement for a car (which should last longer than the leasing period) and I would never buy a car again which is known to suffer from major rust issues, no matter how much I lust after it.
this is one of my favourite cars... EVER! its a monster but incredibly elegant at the same time. Also in regards to the badges on the side, from someone who would take most Ferraris without shields, id put them back on. Maserati is one of those special brands with a certain mystique about it and it'd definitely give me the fizz seeing the trident on the car
Awesome content. Very enlightening. That infotainment central is a dream for this generation of Quattroporte! I am looking forward to the Buyers guide video!! Is it coming out soon?
Fascinating to know about the Maserati rust issues, as I've always hunkered after a GranTurismo. I would put the trident badges back, but it's not must do.
NEEDS THE BADGES!! Love this car, I've been wanting to get a QP Sport Gts for a long time. Hopefully I'll be soon able to buy one outright, before they go up a lot in value!
I just got a great deal on a 2016 Gts and it is amazing and a real head turner. It has tons of road presence. I've had both BMW and Mercedes and while great cars they just dont stand out. Just my opinion
Mine developed a small rust bubble on the rear right wheel well by the bumper. The wheel well itself is fine. $2000 for the repair. Just a heads up, check your wheel wells!
So my QP was the first in the U.K. to have apple car play! I imported the Naviplus system from Oz! Get the Saetta and the stone chip film replace on the lower rear arches…the car screams respray other wise! Didn't even notice the badges on the C-Pillar. The new headunit with Android Auto is massive quality of life improvement. Looking forward to future videos. Keep up the good work.
Upgrading the infotainment on this car should be easy. It's basically the same as a Dodge Ram pickup truck with a bit of branding. I am sure somebody in the USA has worked out how to upgrade it. The ZF gearbox is also the same as in most of the Dodge/Rams bar a bit of programming.
Not a lover of saloon cars, what do you think of the 4.7 Granturismo , but I can’t decide between the Auto or the MC Shift 🧐 Perhaps a twin test is needed 🙏🏻

(Ha! As if any of you toffs care...) Waxoyl is affordable and extremely good if you warm it before (spray) application. Only takes a weekend. It'll last 20+ years without attention; they do a nifty stone-chip and underseal, too. I'm based in the north of England, where salty roads are the norm. Yes... So get your butler's under-chauffeur to look into it, what? And don't bother me with bills, man - just get it done! 🧐
