By far the best method!!!! I can't believe I lived in Maryland half of my life and ate crabs forever and never figured out this method! Huge thanks!!!!!
I've watched a lot of crab picking videos and this is by far the best instructional video how to extract the body meat leaving the legs still attached, perfect for dipping and eating.
I have watched sooooo many videos of crab picking. I like the way this lady picks crab...simple and easy. Also the legs serve as a handle to dip that luscious crab in a little melted butter...just the way I like it. Great video!! I'll be eating fresh local stone crabs this weekend. Will have to order some blue crabs next. Yummy!!
Put the can of seasoning away. Select the first crab with the shell having the most seasoning remaining from the steaming. Remove and set it beside a small container of apple cider, occasionally dip the leg morsel into apple cider vinegar, then touch the steamed seasoning. Save the butter for tomorrow's pancakes. I (a Pennsylvania resident) always instruct new be crab eaters to use the method shown. And if I see them yanking the legs off first I will personally do that to their fingers! My second instruction is use just enough strength to hammer only once. Woodpecker tap-tap songs only fracture shell fragments. Want to try a crab boil once (I like Maryland crab soup) but think steaming will win out.
Blue maryland crabs are the best! U can not usually get them here in california. They had those large dungeon one! They are ok. But can NOT COMPARE TO A NICE SIZE MARYLAND BLUE!. Grace to all.gh
This is on Lexington market! I am soooo jelly! I remember this lady i believe her family owns f. Company. She also be their working the kitchen. & yes she wears that crab necklace for years. Wow! Stun to see this today. Takes me back! Grace to u & all.gh
I've lived in Baltimore all of my life (65 years) and I've never seen them picked this way. I can't wait to get a dozen of crabs so that I may try her method. Also, she looks very nice. I have met her in person many times and she is very classy.
*Do you know the best way to eat a steamed crab?* Damye shows us how she learned to pick a steamed crab, just the way her grandfather taught her - it's the way they used to hand pick crabmeat in the packing district years ago. #realmarylandcrab #steamedcrabs #oldbayseasoning
I agree about getting rid of the gills, but the innards are delicious. There is also fat in the pointed ends of the shell. When we have a Crab Feast, our guests know that if they don't want the fat, just pass that beauty on to me! BTW, I am a Baltimore Boy, born and raised.
Crab season opens up again in Calif in November. Cant wait! My goal for the 18 19 season is to fill up the freezer so i dont run out during the closure next year. The Cod is good but its hard to beat crab!
As close to perfect I've seen so far with the exceptions of; you can remove the entire front & back membranes on each half instead of breaking off each leg separately. That way you get about 2" of delicious MD blue crab lollipop to bite at once. She also wasted the meat from each little leg segment which you squeeze with your fingers, then suck to get the meat out.
Am going to try this method Friday here in Middle Georgia. You can take the kid out of Balitamore (1977) but you can't get Balitamore out of the Kid. LOL
This is a perfectly acceptable and fairly easy way to do it for a regular person eating crabs but no professional picker does it like this. My mothers cousin owns a picking house on the Eastern Shore and ALL professional pickers cut the body in half horizontally, leaving them with 4 pieces (top and bottom from each half) and then they basically just flip out the meat from each cavity with their knife. Still a good how-to, though.
Thanks for the video. I am a Maryland Crab eater and I eat mine differently. I think your way is ok but I go for all the legs first, then I take the shell off. I eat the inerds and the mustard is good. Then I break the crab apart and then go through each one to get the meat. Try it this way its much easier then your way. I guess we all have our own way of eating them.
Tom's Adventures ...you need to keep the legs and claws on to give you something to hold onto as you rip off the shell off. Also, no tools are needed. Just use your bare hands and the right leverage at the right points. I can break the claws in half with my bare hands to get the meat out in one piece and I'm a girl. I apply leverage where she is banging with the knife and mallet. I used to use my teeth. For the compartments, I use a claw to dig the meat out.
I was trying to spell the maryland market on Lexington street about this faidley"& this video sponsor by them they have been in maryland for years! They sell fresh fish, crab, crabcakes etc. Oprah even get her crab cakes from them as she live their in the 70'til80' believe. They are the VERY TOP OF THE LINE IN A COMPANY. I KNOW BECAUSE I USED TO GO THEIR ASXA LITTLE GIRL, THEN WHEN GROWN! STILL DO WHEN I GO BACK EAST . ALSO I WILL HAVE A GIRLFRIEND BRING ME BACK SO CARBCAKES WHEN THEY VISIT! A MUST! 😋. grace to all.gh
No more trouble and hard work to get the sweet meat out. Try a tool called stainless steel seafood fork picks. By toadfish or regular internet or Amazon please do not swallow the tiny fiber shell you can chock to death.
By far the best method!!!! I can't believe I lived in Maryland half of my life and ate crabs forever and never figured out this method! Huge thanks!!!!!
I've watched a dozen crab eating videos and she has the best method by far. Great job.
I cannot agree with you more.
Negative, clean the crab first. ZERO waist and more time eating more crabs.
I've watched a lot of crab picking videos and this is by far the best instructional video how to extract the body meat leaving the legs still attached, perfect for dipping and eating.
Commercial pickers aside, this was the best tutorial on how to do it table side!!!
Best method I've seen. You sound like a nice teacher too :).
By far the fastest, easiest, and most efficient way to crack a blue crab. Thank you so much! Gonna get crabs tonight!
This is one of the best I’ve seen
I've been eating crabs for 40 years and this is the first time I've seen this. Learn something every day.

One of the best I have seen on Utube.
I have a broch/pin like the one you have on. Very good explanation. I have been eating crabs since I was knee high to a grasshopper.
She did a good job picking, and a good job explaining.
Great method and I couldn’t take my eye of that beautiful crab 🦀 slide(pendant) gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing. I'm catching LOTS of crabs here at Baffin Bay in S. Texas.
Simple, precise, and spot-on.
Hi, i love your crab pendant/necklace. The crabs look delicious too. 😃👍
In florida I never really see anyone use a mallet
Usually a heavy type butter knife to crack open the claw part.

Brilliant said , very good , clear explanation , You nailed just nailed it (y)
I have to agree...this is a great video
Very nice sharing my new friend
She really loves crab, she even has a crab necklace.
She's the owner of Faidleys Restaurant in the world famous Lexington Market in Baltimore. She's had a crab in her since she was born.
"You may still have some meat attached... nom nom nom... to the inside cell"

And I thought I was the only person that picked their crabs like this love it
God! That looks so great! Thanks!

Perfect lesson!!!

I don't think she can suck the meat out!. Sure why she does not bother to get meat out. Now if it is for her to consume then yes. Grace to all gh
I agree about that leg meat you squeeze out. While it isn’t much, it tastes great.
You can also eat the stuff in shell. Mix it with rice
Great video!
Baltimore, Maryland was the hometown of Kani from the Sushi Pack.
This is a great way to pick a blue crab!!

Alguien me puede decir en qué me hacer. Eso
This is the way I pick crab. To me it’s the only way. ❤️
Thanks

I don't eat the poop
I eat mine the same way the mustard is where it's at
Make a video. I want to see it
@@dottievillegas9122 The yellow mustard is not poop.
You every tried a nut cracker to do the pinchers?
nice!
This is how I was taught, but my uncle from Louisiana laughed at me and said we Marylanders don't know what we're doing. Hmm...
That's how I do it except I just rip the top shell off
That’s a lot of work

How come you guys don't just clean before eating.
Holy crap, now I understand why they give you a knife with the mallet.
I eat guts n all with my crabs. Im a tru Marylander 🦀 eater!!!
You meant to say Louisiana blue crab lol
One good king LEG HAS MORE CRAB meat then a dozen blue crab
Nope and Maryland blues are still sweeter.

I can't deal all the seasoning on the table
check out Tanika Divine nice video😜..
Deserves an academy award.
trite but true: you expend more calories bashing and picking these things apart than you take in from eating them
Bull crapp that’s not how the packing house pick crabs
