My grandfather had Parkinson's Dementia before much was known about it. The police were called a few times on him to get him safely back inside. (He obviously had to wind up in a nursing home) However, those cops were very helpful. They treated him with dignity instead of treating him like a fighting drunk. I'll never forget that.

i am so glad to see the progress that mental health has made in conjunction with law enforcement. our local police force is joining forces more often with our local mental health officials..it's so wonderful to see mentally ill people being treated, instead of warehoused in jails.

Very good production with actors who are not well known, probably local. Same with director, cinematographer, editor, etc. very good narration, too, with educated research. Well done!
So, all this stuff was well known, and well handled. what happened?! 🤔🌷🌱
What the Ef, no emergency doctor?!

I was 8 years old when this film was made...policing has surely changed...also, that chair move was classic.....

The sergeant must have been an instructor of "tactical chair defense" lol.

The film leaves the impression that a cop can bring a chair to a knifefight --- and win. Worse, the public expects that the cops can be "trained" to do just that, so when a cop shoots a person trying to knife him, he didn't "follow procedure." The cop was somehow paid to experiment with his life before shooting. This may have been made for cops to see it, but very few ever saw it. As soon as any law enforcement trainer saw it, it went into the trash can. You simply can't train anyone to defend themselves against a edged weapon using a chair, cop or no-cop, and expect to live.

I expect that the cops don't shoot autistic kids in the back as they run away. Better yet, they don't shoot anyone in the back as they run away! I wonder if that could ever be achieved in this Country....I doubt it.

Love the acting. And the Jersey accents. 😆

"Jersey" accents? That is Louisiana accents.

it is sort of New York accent mixed with Louisiana accent. It comes off weird

These were real New Orleans accents. Like everything else, they've mostly vanished with time.

Classic “Irish channel” New Orleans accent: the disturbed lady at the grocery store who wanted to show the cops pictures of her kids that she had in her “poise”. Completely authentic.

These days, Poor old Paul would have been dead for half an hour by now, drenched in pepper spray, dog bites all over him, and 20 or 30 .40 S&W rounds in him.....

Anybody notice the sandwich the cop is eating at about 25:30? That, my friends, is a genuine New Orleans Poboy. My mouth is watering just looking at it.
