      Sanders who is vehemently against Trump agenda:"Every other country negotiates prices..."
      LOL...what a difference (read: TRUMP AND SANDERS say same shyte but because Trump said it and wants to implement it he is wrong but because SANDERS said it he is right)...liberalism truly is a mental disorder

      You do realize that Bernie's whole point was that Trump is saying one thing and doing another. Trump said he wouldn't cut medicaid and medicare, but Price has always fought to. Trump said he wants the govt to negotiate prices, but Price is firmly against it. Trump lies all the time.

    • @Pwells1
      @Pwells1 7 років тому +32

      William, the country does not belong to you. It belongs to everyone. The
      ACA existed not to primarily provide free care (though there was some
      medicaid expansion), but to provide access to care for people who
      couldn't get it before. Most people who get care through the ACA got it
      through the online PRIVATE INSURANCE exchanges, along with a govt
      subsidy. Or they were able to access it because they worked 30-39hrs per
      week and their employer provided it, but previously didn't. Or they
      could stay on parents insurance until age 26. All these things require
      people to pay in.
      But Medicare and Medicaid have been around for DECADES. And you seem to be against them. Why is that? Do you not care about seniors, whose care costs thousands upon thousands of dollars? Do you not believe poor people should be allowed to get medical treatment? Not just ordinary doctor visits, but hospital care and upper level care? Care should be entirely based on income I guess? That's sad that you would spit on your fellow citizens, and you should be ashamed of yourself.

      actually I feel like that's a love/hate relationship from hillary. Bernie holds everyone to the minimum standard of what some people call basic decency or to some 'high' standards. Hillary threw much shade at Bernie and although Bernie gave his support to Hillary, in a bid to prevent people from simply picking Trump because they didn't want hillary, he still pushed and changed some of her party's policies because she wasn't championing the people. He has done everything he has promised; to fight and to encourage others to take a part in shaping the government. Hillary had some amazing ideas when she was first lady. Do you know she traveled around the world visiting countries that had free healthcare to figure out how the justified it and how they applied it practically. She came back with a plan to implement this and it was shut down and she was told to stop acting like the president and shut up. Now I would not vote for Hillary because she is not the same as she was, but a part of me has got to think she loves Bernie a little. But man does she hate him because he is a mirror that reflects her change and failures to the american people.
      Just my opinion, let me know if anything I've said doesn't make sense or if you can show me something that shows I'm wrong. Bernie makes sense and he lists data and research with most of his points. I would follow this man almost anywhere because I know he'd explain to my why I had to; he wants people to make informed decisions. He's treating everyone and acting like an adult.

    single payer is the only way to fix the problem
    It's a really simple concept and one that Bernie proposed perfectly. Individuals pay an annual 2.2% of their annual earnings and employers pay 6.4% (down from over 9% btw) and you're covered under medicare. It's simply replacing a for profit model with over 40% of overhead to a non profit one with less than 10% overhead. The healthcare itself will still be provided by the private sector so it would hardly be considered socialized medicine...something everyone who opposes a single payer system has been made to fear!

    • @andrewtucker94
      @andrewtucker94 7 років тому +2

      Yep. I live in the UK, the NHS is practically a national religion. Anyone party saying they'd fully privatise it would be eviscerated.

    • @damienmortikai3942
      @damienmortikai3942 7 років тому

      Except that math says it won't work. Going by a national average income of just over $55,000 dollars for 2016. 157,833,000 workers. The 2.2% gives you 191 Billion dollars towards the system. The 6.4% gives you 555 Billion dollars towards the system. So you get 746 billion dollars total to the system.
      We spent 3.2 Trillion dollars on healthcare in 2015. Now I'll give you that the 3.2 Trillion dollars can be reduced. But that takes a long serious bipartisan look at what it cost to train professionals in the field. Frivolous lawsuits doctors and hospitals constantly go through. And a hard look at what it really cost big pharma for R&D.
      Even if we claim we can knock off 2 trillion dollars by restructuring what it takes to train and pay the professionals in the medicine. We heavily reduce the costs, pharma claim. And we some how get a lot of people to stop thinking they can sue for millions for every little thing. You still come up short by about 454 billion dollars.
      Also your 2.2% would mean a person making $55,000 a year would pay $1,210 dollars per year. When figuring every citizen in the US. ACA cost $10,000. So the $1,210 per year is really great when compared to the 10k cost even for children and people not working. But it doesn't fill the gap. And it doesn't answer for the ridiculous cost in Health Insurance.
      For myself personally. I had a really great private plan that I paid $80 a month for as a smoker. It was leaps and bound above what I could get at work and I didn't mind the cost. Now under ACA it cost me $200 a month for the bottom barrel basic plan.
      Reduce frivolous lawsuits. Reduce for profit education at the college level. Thus reducing the ridiculous bills doctors have starting day 1 in their careers. I'm all for dems, repubs, green, peace, libertarian, all parties getting together to make sure big pharma isn't screwing over the general public. And lastly. Stop limiting Health Insurance companies from growing. Allow them to cross state lines and compete with each other to provide the best plans at the lowest costs. ACA proves what happens when you have only two or three business competing. Prices soar.

      I didn't say negotiate Parma prices. Look in to their R&D cost. A lot of these drugs that lately have had 1000% price increase. Have been attributed to R&D costs. I'm a capitalist. But even I find these sharp price increases just for R&D a bit suspicious.
      At the same time. I'm also not an expert on their cost. Just a curious person. The price increases my be justified.

      I said what you didn't say.
      We (USA) are the only country that cannot negotiate pharmaceutical prices. As a result, for ex; Canadian equivalent drugs cost on average 1/5th the price.
      Include that in your math, which was very useful btw 🤗

      So we agree that your initial comment was useless.
      Maybe there will be an amendment.. I'm sure that would come with fighting for it to be a right, I'm also positive that many said that blacks weren't equal to whites as it wasnt in the constitution, when others like Sanders were saying that we are equal and have human rights... and seeing as nearly everyone (even southern republicans) admire that part of the ACA, it shouldn't be difficult to amend.
      However it is a rather weak argument to say that something isn't a right, nor should we even talk about it being a right, simply because we haven't written it on paper yet.

    This never fails to anger me. I am fortunate to have lived my whole life in a country where everyone is free from the awful worry of outrageous medical expenses. If my children fall ill or are injured, I know they will receive the care and medicine they need. I cannot understand how a country as wealthy as the US is so backward in this matter. It is genuinely shameful that people who claim to have the interests of their people at heart can actively work to perpetuate a system that puts such a terrible burden on so many. It's disgusting.

      Your right no system is perfect but had our own clinic for 25 years and watched the system degrade to the point where much of it is dysfunctional. Most Canadians who think the system is great have never been sick. Many Canadians who get sick go out of the country to get health care. My wife who is the doctor had to go to the US to get real answers to her health questions. People are suffering and DYING to up hold an ideological system not a medical system. A one payer system becomes corrupt and unanswerable. You need to find a different way.

    Tom Price: "I look forward to working with you to ensure that every single American has access to the highest quality care and coverage that is possible."
    Bernie Sanders: " 'Has access to' does not mean they are guaranteed health care. I have access to buying a $10 million home, but I don't have the money to do that."
    Tom Price: "And that's why we believe it is appropriate to put in place a system that gives every person the financial feasibility to be able to purchase the coverage they want for themselves and their family and not what the government forces them to buy."
    Tom Price nailed it, and Bernie knew it. If you want to ensure that every American has access to the best quality care and coverage available, you don't pass a tyrannical government mandate that everyone must have health care, and then dictate the type of coverage and care you get. No, what you do is make sure that people can purchase and afford the type of care that they want for themselves and their family, and let the health care market compete for their customers based upon the customer's needs. That way you ensure access to the best quality care that is available for everyone. And for those who cannot afford any care, like the extremely poor, you can simply modify the eligibility requirements of Medicaid to cover them while covering the cost of that coverage with a slight increase in the FICA tax on everyone's paycheck. Good job Mr. Price! You were definitely the right pick for HHS! I eagerly look forward to what you and your colleagues come up with! 👍😎

    • @ilikecommenting6849
      @ilikecommenting6849 7 років тому +3

      "let the health care market compete for their customers based upon the customer's needs."
      I'm an equity analyst in the pharmaceutical industry and if you think there's going to be some fair game, you are completely delusional. Health care will always have high demand. There's no reason for insurers to compete with each other. They can just keep things as is and no consumer would be able to stand up to that.
      If you want make sure that people can afford care, you let the government negotiate prices down with the industry. Again, supply and demand. The U.S. is one of the largest markets for healthcare providers. The U.S. could even force these companies to sell the medicine at 0 profit. Of course, that is unnecessary. It's fine to be profitable, but it is downright crazy to charge 89k when canadian citizen can get the same treatment for $800.
      "Gives every person the financial feasibility" He is implying here not that costs should come down, but that citizens should simply earn more money.

    • @jacobfrancis8310
      @jacobfrancis8310 7 років тому

      justmusic no one's arguing the demand; insurers don't compete simply over demand. It's a competition over price and quality. Look at the debate Sanders had with Senator Cruz just recently. Sanders says he supports a bill to allow pharmaceuticals to be sold across national lines, saying that competition would drive prices down. Same thing ought to be true of insurance as well. Passing a bill to allow buying plans across state lines would drive prices down as well, as probably the cheapest and most coverable insurers would be purchased and successful. No one's is saying keep things as is, oh god no.
