I'm very jealous. Video idea: Show people how to actually use PCB Way. Take your Quadra 700 feet and show people which options to pick when doing a PCBway order.
Sweet build! The attention to detail in that case is amazing! I wanted to do a somewhat similar ITX build for the new PC my son and I built for him in August. Unfortunately, our budget didn't allow for it. But we did end up with nice-looking Lian Li A3 based MATX build.
The best actual dead vintage Mac conversion i made was a fried Mac Portable (high voltage got inside, LCD and motherboard were completely toast, nothing to recover) with a motherboard from Mac Studio with badly damaged case installed and keyboard converted to USB using a small custom adapter. Basically Mac Portable with 4k screen that runs latest OS. Getting a trackball to work was much more of a pain.
I remember that monitor. I had the 15" version and it was beautiful. This one looks better than original and absolutely clean white. Its the perfect match for that case.
Didn’t know the Quadra 700 was so popular it got it’s own tribute. Cool! I confess I did something sacrilegious and some years ago took a real Quadra 700 case and repurposed it to house modern components. So it now packs a 7800X3D and RTX 4070 Super. It was hard (but fun) to work out how to get everything to fit properly and then a real challenge to get it running (somewhat) cool and quiet since the case has very poor ventilation. From the outside it still looks like a Quadra 700 (apart from the back, obviously) and I’ve also retained the original speaker which will still beep. I also wanted to have an actual, operational floppy drive, but unfortunately that proved unfeasible.
I wonder about the thermals. You aren't using all the possible fan options. And even those options seem to just make a jet way across the top of the case.
Those fans (60mm rear and a pretty air-starved 80mm up front) are not moving a lot of air, unless you run them at high speeds, making them sound very annoying.
Of course Veronica Explains is a top tier patreon support 😅 Man, what a neat little PC, good looking too. And like you mentioned, attention to details.
You can also see these machines in the arcade version of Sega's Virtua Cop, on the third and final stage. Looks like Sega used a lot of these machines in their offices.
Wow, looks like they did a better job designing that case than many mini-itx manufacturers. While I don't think I'd pay for a limited run like this, I would love a more mass produced version to reduce prices. Though you know the quality would drop significantly.
I was actually waiting for this video ever since I saw the spoiler photo on Mastodon. It's totally understandable and equally tragic that no more will be made of these. I would have jumped on it in a nano-second had I known about it back then. I truly hope someone else will pick up the mantle, but don't stop here -- what about a NeXT Cube? Or Xerox 6085?
I had a 20" Apple/Sony Trinitron monitor. It was the Blue and White one that matched my G4. Sadly that and others cool stuff Apple, PC and vintage console were lost in a fire.
Very nice. Love Q700s. Though I wonder if the height the case doesn't have compared to the original would help at all... That, and I kind of want to see a IIsi case done like this.
It's also my favorite Mac, along with the Quadra 840av and Quadra 950. Which I own, of course. For a moment I thought you were going to disintegrate this illustrious Mac and install modern components. At last, I'm reassured.
It's a beautiful design. I wonder why they didn't make it closer or to exact scale of the original? Would have made for easier install and more airflow for sure.
I think you need the Asus VU249CFE-M beige monitor to complete the retro/modern setup :) Once the 3D model is available (and I buy a 3D printer) I will print mine, such cool case!
I understand the love for the Q700, but my dream Quadra was the 840av. I still have the full front bezel from the one I bought in 1997, which then died from lightening strike 3 months later. (Yes, it was surge protected, but no, the phone line wasn't... Insurance did end up paying out, but not til I'd bought myself a new computer... So then, I didn't really have a use for it, as the "av" features on the TAM were better. Ultimately the chassis rusted due to tropical living.)
Beautiful PC. Wish it was the same size as the OG and had the floppy drive. Though if I ever had the means to build one it would be a full AMD build. I'm kinda an AMD fanboy from WAAAAYYYYY back. My first ever build back in the early 90's was an AMD 386 DX40 shortly after AMD hit the market running with their own processors. Yet my first AMD processor was actually the 8086-2 in my Tandy 1000 SL back in 1988. I've built dozens of PC's over the years and I have only ever had 3 Intel processors. Not that they were bad. Just because I stick with what I like for the most part. My favorite Intel processor I owned was the Celeron 300a with the insane overclock.
Because people think they know everything and think there is only one way to apply thermal paste, they go crazy if someone puts too much thermal paste on thinking it causes thermal issues (when in fact it doesn't, it just creates a mess).
You can't tell me that you didn't do an "X" pattern with the thermal paste. lol Also, If there was a motorized 3 1/2 in floppy drive that would work with windows, that would be so pimp. Thanks. I always love your videos.
That is thing is STUNNING and I desperately want one. Also, wish I had 32GB of RAM just laying around, and not in the form of 32 sticks of old-ass DDR2.
This is super neat. Genuinely kinda frustrated that no one makes a sorta 'Generic 90s retro looking beige box but in ITX for modern/modernish builds'. I just wanna make the MS-DOS Mini. :O
all ways seemed to have a foundness for the Quadra 700 look, i though maybe it would be a good case for conceding PowerBooks to desktops if the laptop form factor wasn’t needed or the screen went bad. I never had one but just liked them a lot :)
I'm very jealous. Video idea: Show people how to actually use PCB Way. Take your Quadra 700 feet and show people which options to pick when doing a PCBway order.

starfield running on a crtv monitor is the most legendary thing I have seen in a hot minute.
This is the peak of the "sleeper" meta.
With this case you are liable to have someone throw away your machine accidentally assuming it is E-waste... tee hee!
Honestly, this would be the perfect way to just have THE sleeper PC build. Someone get Jayztwocents on this!
I’m really looking forward to the next video where this box emulates system 7. 😊

Turning the Vintage Mac To a PC, and use Hackintosh to look like a modern Mac.
I agree, he should definitely hackintosh it!

I'm so glad somebody is making Quadra cases for PCs. Absolutely love their simple design.
Unfortunately they were a one off and the creator doesn't seem to be making more.
