    I'll never get over how different the book is to the movie.

      It’s original. What’s wrong with that? The biggest takeaway is how it goes into the development of Dorian Gray instead of Dorian Gray’s picture. It shows what gave rise to his development and self destructive personality. Why he’s so obsessed over how people view him, and why his picture looks so good.

    I don't think Henry ever considered the possiblity that his own daughter would get the hots for Dorian. That's when all hell broke loose.

      He should’ve. Or he did and just didn’t care until he learned that Dorian is also a Murderer.

    @straburyred You're right. Henry was fond of Dorian in a distant, disapproving kind of way for a while and then Dorian had to go and bring his daughter into it. Bad idea.

      Miranda Riley Dorian did not really bring her into it. She came over to his house wanting to do a picnic but Dorian refused at first. But when he spent time with her, he felt like he can and could be a better man. The man he was before he nailed his soul into the painting and did all of those things. Plus Dorian warned her that he has done dreadful things and that there will be a price. She told him that she did not care. Dorian is not all to blame in that whole situation.

      Emily is a plot device. She isn’t an original character in Wilde’s novella. I like her and I like this screenplay because it expands on Wilde’s theme of social oppression making monsters out of good people. It’s also Henry’s “comeuppance” because Henry had a HUGE hand in shaping Dorian’s jaded, dissolute, and monstrous behavior. Henry lived vicariously through Dorian, encouraged him to excesses, to disrespect and debauch women, etc. NOW he faces his “master pupil” as a son-in-Law.

      @@amasion2882 yes, tough I did not like the film because it didn't show the characters like they were described di Wild, I really liked her character and the effects it had on Dorian and Henry

    It's curious that the book ends with the Dorian death and Lord Henry isn't mentioned again, and we don't know what happened him.

    @IlovehsmandZacEfron You're right. Ironic, huh? Emily might have been able to help him but Henry didn't really give them a chance...

    @IlovehsmandZacEfron I don't know about that. I think Basil definitely loved Dorian but I think Dorian didn't feel the same way. He really did love Emily though. I thought that they were a good couple, despite everything lol

    @IlovehsmandZacEfron Haha! I loved that part!!! Poor Basil.... I think he really loved Dorian. There has been much debate about whether or not Dorian was really in love with him. I'm not sure but I don't think he was....

    @candymandy224 13 років тому +5

    @IlovehsmandZacEfron i think he also kind of wants to get back at henry for making his life (very literally...) a living hell. poor emily just got the full force

    @IlovehsmandZacEfron i don't really know. in the end the bad things kind of consumed him... the painting was his soul. i've often wondered if they meant his heart was pure and his soul was screwed up. it's a little more clear in the book but i haven't read it in a while....

    wait why would they add this random character to the movie lol she wasn’t in the book

    • @ignoto1117

      She wasn't but in this (terrible) move she was my fave... Dorian here seems a lunatic teen who goes crazy and murders folks

    @IlovehsmandZacEfron He had all the right chances and then one guy (HENRY!!!) comes along and ruins everything... Failure. I think the movie was very different but good... In the book he did fewer bad things, I think but he aso did worse things. That's sort of the impression I got but, like I said, I haven't read it in ages! I should read it again....

    @IlovehsmandZacEfron dear old henry. i don't know.. dorian would have been much older if he hadn't turned evil so if you think about it, it really would NEVER have worked!!!

    @IlovehsmandZacEfron i know right?
    it gives away all the bad bits... that damn music! ah well. still awesome. i don't really know... i thought he liked her at first. maybe he didn't and then he found out it was henry's daughter and thought "now i'm gonna screw with her heart!" i think he liked her or at least found her interesting. hence the "interesting woman" line.

    @IlovehsmandZacEfron Nah, perfect characters just make it boring and they're annoying... Or they annoy me, anyway. But I loved Basil! I was really sad when he got killed... Bad Dorian!
