We should have "sided" with him collectively. Thankfully, the last 2 times he returned to St James Park, he got a decent ovation when subbed (playing for Liverpool) and as sub (for Cardiff). A fantastic player and it's a shame people look at a spat with Shearer over his quality and contribution on the pitch.

Come on seriously, he’s talking like he was in Shearer status “turning down united”, he knew he’d be be an impact player coming on with 20-30 min to go. He was a starter with Newcastle, of course you are not going to swap that change in career, every player wants to play week in week out regardless of the level. He was playing every week and he made the right decision to stay, because he wasn’t guaranteed first team football if he had left. A bit of perspective needed here, don’t try to make yourself out to be a signing Ferguson lost sleep over, he basically wanted you to be the new Ole. Stay humble. ✌🏻
