Honestly, that is the *most prominent patella* I've ever seen! Excellent for demonstrating. You two are very knowledgable and fun to watch. Many thanks!
I was once diagnosed with chondromalacia patallae, caused not by misaligned tracking of the knee cap but by "lazy" (slow) tracking, due to misfiring of the quads caused by a "slack" rectus femoris; at least that's how the physiotherapist explained it to me. The doc felt the roughness under the knee cap by rubbing it firmly from side to side while my leg was flat on the table. Luckily for me, I was pain-free in about week after doing straight leg raises with a few pounds strapped to my foot. Prior to being told about the leg raises, another physio diagnosed patella tendonitis (the pain is usually in the same area) and told me to rest, ice and stretch, but that treatment did nothing after a month. I could be wrong on the following, but: I suspect it's better doing the leg raises while lying down; in other words, starting with the leg lined up with the upper body prior to raising it. Either that, or standing and kicking out from a weighted wall pulley that's close to the floor. I guess that doing the movement this way doesn't tighten the hip flexors too much, whereas standing and kicking up passed 90 degrees might, due to the extra hip flexion. My injury occurred about 25 years ago, and sneaks back in minor way every few years, at which time it quickly goes away after doing the leg raises again. Yes, I probably should do them all the time, but, well, you know...life sometimes gets in the way. :-) In my humble, uneducated opinion, the "regular" chondromalacia that I had gets overlooked too often in favour of misalignment (PTFS), and I'm not sure why.
How the therapist find the bad mechanic of the movement, was it a special exam? Pls help me im in pain and no doctor nor physical therapist have found out what's happening
Many thanks for your informative and entertaining set of videos. A doctor referred me to an NHS physio who got me standing on the leg with the bad knee with my eyes closed - didn't work! Then I went to a chiropractor who wanted me to have expensive treatment for 6 months. All this took over a year. I have tried your test, exercises and taping method and my knee has stopped aching in 3 weeks. I am so grateful, and If any pain does return I now have plenty of tape which I ordered on Amazon.
Christine Blanco that’s very odd, my physio taped my knee and also gave me exercises to strengthen my muscles and I haven’t had any issues since although I have times where it’s painful. You must’ve just had a bad physio :/
“You’re not going to REALLY put it on the knee cap. You’re going to put it on the skin outside of the knee cap.” 😂 LOL. Very grateful for the clarification.
@@jefflawrence5835 hurt my knee just heavy lifting over the years at work, turns out it’s 90% likely it’s this, however it’s been a month of this and it’s almost a constant aching pain no matter what time of day... is it the same for you?
@@zestymushr00m85 i'm an orderfiller for W, been doing heavy lifting jobs my whole life but they've been pushing me +harder for 6 months now and i feel my knees are just ready to go.. ice 20 mins on off at night, and i feel good the next day.. but a few hours in i feel an achy almost burny feeling in the lower outside corner aside the kneecap, and yes it just seems to come back randomly throughout the day
Thank you for the wonderful demonstration. I just want to add something, Quadriceps strengthening exercises with the emphasis on the quadriceps and hip abductors in my opinion are probably the best long-term solution for this condition.
Just wonderful, I been tryin to find out about "best treatment for knee injury" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Jeneah Lansaiah Framework - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my buddy got cool success with it.
This was great, I have been researching "tenderness around knee cap" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Jeneah Lansaiah Framework - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my colleague got great results with it.
Cheers for this, I've been looking for "get rid of knee pain running" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Jeneah Lansaiah Framework - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my neighbour got amazing results with it.
Thank you!! Now I understand exactly what's going on with my knees. My knees have hurt going DOWN stairs for a few months now, just like you said. They hurt a lot less going up. But with the tape they feel so much more stable and the pain was much less. So now I will do your exercises. I love you guys.
OMG!!! I love you guys! Thx so much. That tape solution solved the clicking problem. It's been bothering me for the past decade. I feel so stupid but relieved that I have a solution now.
how neat to find this...I cannot use the stairs with one of my legs due to sever knee pain.ONLY when using stairs....I am 63...I put some tape on it and it greatly reduced the pain...I go to the PT in two days so this was helpful and will save time in there to put towards exercises and treatment rather than diagnosing...although I imagine he will still want to do that himself!! thanks...great info! very helpful!
I was recently diagnosed w chrondomaleria, torn meniscus & arthritis in my knee. I went to 3 diff ortho drs & none of them suggested the tape treatment. That's a very good idea. Thx for sharing & very easy to understand.
Thank-you very much. I have a bit too much fat around the knee, so taping it wouldn't work - so I tried another approach with a patella knee strap but with a tightly rolled wad of paper towels (about 1" in diameter) stuffed between the strap and knee on the outer side of the knee cap. This shifted the knee cap over to the inside and solved the problem 100% walking downstairs. The pain didn't go away totally as you say, but it's not nearly as bad. I then pulled a knee compression sleeve over the entire knee to keep the knee strap in place.
I had this problem after knee replacement. The surgeon said it was futile to line the back of the knee cap. He said the tracking was not great. Had constant pain going down stairs but it’s bearable..will try the tape method. Thanks
Been In agony for years putting off knee replacement, walking up and down stairs is/ was a nightmare, tried this taping and the pain is 70% less , Well done B&B the best on UA-cam....in my opinion 👍
I want to know whats the criteria to know WHEN its time to have surgery. My knee buckles at times, I can no longer squat at the knees and come up without pushing down on the floor with my hands to help getting up from a squat position, and I have pain when I bend at the knees. I don't take meds YET for the pain . Luckily it doesn't hurt to walk so I'm still able to golf. I want to know more about the surgery and hear testimonials from people who had this Chondro and how their knees feel AFTER surgery.
I know how you feel😞 I tore my ACL when I was four yrs old. I have had knee pain for as long as I can remember and had to quit my favorite sports in school like basketball. It really sucks.😔
Sara i went to the doctor the 17 of january, last month bcs of that (excuse me) fucking knee pain, and the doctor told me that he thinks that i have “patellar tendonitis” or Jumper’s knee. He told me to come back if the pain hasn’t gone away in a month, so i was there today, and i’m gonna get an x-ray tomorrow, and i’m maybe going to an specialist (orthopedic surgeon). I’m in pain every day, and i hate it, bcs i can’t do the things that i love, playing soccer. I went to soccer practice last night, and i got so much pain in my knee, and it felt like someone stuck a thick needle right over my knee cap. 🙄🙄🙄
@@annikaniclasen9025 ugh I'm so sorry. I had to quit my passion (basketball) because of my patella femoral syndrome. Its awful. Doing mast anything hurts.
I am so glad to have found this video. I was just diagnosed with this. One knee is bone on bone and the other still has a tiny bit of cartilage left. I’m really thankful to be able to learn of things that can help.
I appreciate these videos. I'm trying to fiure out whats wrong with my knees (along with seeing actual doctors) but it's been hard to find answers. I saw the title of this video and it sparked a memory and I remember my doctor suggesting that I had patellofemoral syndrome back when I was a kid. The mention of pain going up and down the stairs was spot on. I will keep this video in mind when I see my doctor next time and maybe it will put me on the right track to solving my knee issues.
thank you so much for making this video. ive suffered from pains in my left knee which you described precisely. pain when bending. much more so painful going down hill or steps then up.
I asked before BUT NO ANSWER ...what about no pain when walking or bending. Or exercising ..severe lightening pain whenever it wants..laying..sitting..sometimes standing.last 30 sec. Or so..sometimes everyday sometimes not...nothing therapists have done to knee has caused pain..no clicking..or catching..only severe quick sharp pain out of nowhere
Good info. Thank you! Got this at 9th grade year of runnng cross country from overuse 6 days every week all year round for high school running 14-20 miles weekly without stretching or good shoes, but first you must ear then learn I would have to say..
Now 11th grade and haven’t attend sports sense and could only run a lap after it happened. Never new what happened just thought it swell and be down a couple of days and the life got real..
Omg I need this! I've had the same knee pain for months now. It feels like it's moving during prolonged sitting and just walking alone causes pain. Can u use any tape?
+physicaltherapyvideo sir I have chondromalacia in my right knee with a small meniscus tear in both medial and lateral meniscus. it pains very less though most of the times none at all. even while walking up the stairs. but there's a lot of popping and clicking sounds. Is it ok if I run with this issue and do the rehab.
I don’t feel pain from bending, walking or going up stairs. I feel the pain from jogging, jumping and going down stairs. My left inner knee at the bottom kind of next to the knee cap.
0:50 " *You cannot diagnose chondromalacia unless you have a scope and look in there* ". Is this correct? My X-Ray report findings indicate chondromalacia.
@@OOO-jt8ug my chrondomalica has cone back. Unfortunately my doctor never told me physical therapy is what I need, he just told me to get fitted for orthotics. I hate doctors
I live in NYC, and 100% cannot avoid stairs at all - subways everyday and a six floor walk up. I can't wait to try this! My pain is when I'm walking downstairs, when I'm walking upstairs its very mild, and doesn't bother me.
Thanks for this video. It gave me a good understanding. I had an mri and xray done on my left knee. It turns out the cause of my knee pain is that the groove in my femur is too shallow causing the knee cap to track outward. MD told me the best way to treat this is PT. Thanks again for the video.
How about Testing with the Knee Brace? I am 28 yrs old and Physical labor. My doctor said it's the cartillage under the patella. So I guess it's PFPS. He checked it by pushing the knee cap downwards and asking me to bend. Than there was a locking sensation by which he confirmed its PFPS. Is this right?
My kneecaps must be tight or something because I can't move them at all like the guy did in this video. Can't move it left or right. It's stuck right in the middle. And I actually do often have a very tight feeling with my knees.
pranavv gautamm this seemed to work for me, although seemed like one kneecap was a bit tighter than the other. Can this happen (eg maybe a reason is that the strength balance isn’t the same in both legs around kneecap), or does it just mean I wasn’t fully relaxed?
I wish I could watch the whole video, but when the doctor in the blue shirt started to move the knee back and forward I've had to stop. My last MRI was in 2010 , and I've got Chondromalacia of the Patella with subchondral marrow oedema in the femoral trochlea I haven't reached 40 yrs as yet. I was a gymnast. My knee problems started around the age of 8 doing classical ballet. In order to strengthen the thigh muscles, I went on gymnastics. By the age of 15 my knees were killing me, and I've had to stop gymnastics. I did not stop being active and started dancing, and by the age of 18, I could hardly walk, drive a manual car, and it was then that I've had the Keyhole knee operation which didn't fix anything. In 2004 plantar fasciitis was added to the mix, exercise is very hard for me. My brain wants too, but my legs are telling me no. My knees will give away at anytime, going up a step, doing down a step, getting up from sitting down for a while. The amount of times I've almost fall is crazy e.g. when entering a bus (public transport), as the first step on the bus as is high, like going up a step. The bus drivers always look at me with big eyes, like what is wrong with this young lady? Not knowing my knees are of a 80yrs old lady (one with bad bones that is). Naproxen and codeine are my 'friends', McConnell taping did work for me. Nevertheless like I've been doing for years, is just leaving with these pulsating, unreliable, locking, give away broken knees, as they will not kill me.
This is an interesting video, and I'd like to try this test, BUT... my kneecaps DO NOT MOVE! This is about the 12th video I've seen today, since I started researching the pain that started today, and in several videos, I watched kneecaps being moved side to side and up and down, and mine just don't do that. In fact, I can't detect any movement AT ALL. The only thing I can detect is my skin moving a little. I don't know if this is a bad thing or not, but watching this guy's patella move the way it did, blew my mind! He and I might as well be a different species! Either that or I've got some freaky knees, if his are normal! On REAL close inspection, and by pushing REALLY HARD, my kneecaps move about 1/4 of an inch. That's it. If this pain persists until tomorrow, I'll have to see a Doctor.
Thank you, Bob an Brad! I’m a 13 year old girl soccer player, and it turned out i have chondromalacia and soft cartilage in my right knee, and i’m gonna do physical therapy for a while. I’m gonna call the man who owns the gym in my hometown, Tvøroyri, and if he don’t know what i can do for my knee pain, i’ll have to go to the doctor AGAIN. I’ve been at the doctor’s office 3 times, the hospital 2 times, and 3 different doctors with my knee. I practice soccer 5 to 6 times a week. I know i shouldn’t practice so much, but soccer is my everything. My friends, family and doctors keep telling me that i shouldn’t practice so much right now, bcz i just came back on the field after exactly 6 weeks of being BANNED from playing. I love soccer with all my heart, but i’m in so much pain when i play. I may need to go to the hospital to do physical therapy, if it turnes out he can’t do anything to help me. I can go to another town to get physio, but then i’ll lose many hours at school.
I have the exact same problem. I am also 13 and playing comp soccer many days a week. My pt people tell me and my parents that because our hips are widening it messes up with all the joints in your knees and legs even though it’s the smallest little widening. Many girls on my team all have this same pain syndrome just because of that. I know you wrote this a year ago so I hope you feel better
Anya daddy thank you! i got a cortisone shot in my knee about a month ago, and it really worked. my pain is gone, but i’ve started getting alot of new symptoms such as fatigue, nosebleeds, easily bruising and vomiting. and i’m 14 now, so these symptoms aren’t normal. so im calling my doc next week to get an appointment, bc i may have either leukemia or bloodloss. hope they can do something for you!
@@OOO-jt8ug at this very moment i’m fine:) i’m getting surgery next month, on sep 19th, to realign my knee cap and to repair my LCL, MPFL and medial meniscus:) i haven’t played soccer for about 4 months, because even the slightest misalignment of my knee causes my knee cap to shift and almost dislocate, but i’m happy to say that i’ll be returning to the field in march, if everything goes well with my blood/immune disorder:) i’ve been very sick lately because of my blood/immune disorder so my knee isn’t my biggest problem at the moment, but i’ve been working hard so i can return to the game i’ve loved since i was a little kid:)
I am 29 years old and I was diagnosed with Chondromalacia Patella and early onset arthritis by my doctor 2 years ago and his advice was to stop playing basketball and only do exercises that are low impact (swimming & biking). I don't want to give up my passion, but I know if I continue playing I will surely suffer later on in life. I know you don't have all the information, but if I follow the PT advice here and obviously consult a PT in person, do I stand a chance of improving the condition of my knee (going down stairs is really tough) and delaying the progression of my arthritis? A knee replacement may be in my future, but I want to delay that moment as long as possible, and being so young the thought of going through such a major surgery like that gives me anxiety. Any insight or advice you can give a young lad such as myself? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
Will these tape method help keep the kneecap stable in someone with EDS (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome)? I have EDS and my kneecaps drift very often, making walking, driving and such difficult.
You can see it on a straight X-ray. Mine shows the patella out of place, with messy cartilage plus some arthritis in the femur, where the Patella is knocking against it. You don’t need arthroscopicy.
after few steps down a steep hill, both my knees start hurting, too much running, and squatted weirdly when i jump down from a truck. I dont run for awhile my knee becomes better.
I'm an OT. I had an MRI recently that said I had mild chondromalacia on the medial aspect of my right patella and a slightly lateral malalignment of my left patella with mild pain. My doctor still thinks I have a tiny medial meniscus tear even though the MRI said my meniscus was fine. He only thinks it's that because "mild chondromalacia does not cause pain" and because my knees get irritated when someone bends and twists them. Well...I think that will cause knee pain with anyone with kneecap issues. Plus I have mild athritis in my back that causes some pain, so if something mild in my body can cause me pain, I don't see why mild chondromalacia wouldn't cause me pain as well. Going to PT soon to get some help.
Oh guys! there is no video like this on Russian speaking UA-cam! Finally I found some demonstration and explanation of my diagnosis!! Will do excercises!!! Thank you very much!!!!
You guys are good at explaining. My physical therapist had me climbing stairs, doing leg push ups (on bad knee) wall squats until my knee is completely torn up. Now along with searing stabbing pain I have numbness above and below my knee.
I'm dealing with the same issue. The way it started with me was a second arthroscopic knee surgery I had on the same knee for a torn meniscus. Then out of nowhere I had a huge pain issue and was not able to go up or down a stair, it was extremely painful and I was not able to put weight on it. I had other knee surgeons and doctors tell me it will get better after a year or more, it has been about 3 years now... It got better, to the point stair was almost pain-free but I am not able to go run or even jog YET! The first surgery went well, recovery was very well, back at the Gym and jogging and running like normal but the 2nd surgery, I have no idea what ended up happening. MRIs show everything is fine, so why can't I put all my weight on it/ or jog or run like normal without a huge pain issue on my knee area. Leg extension, the most I can do is about 10-15lbs, it's that weak, very weak; Also why stairs is a bitch at times for me. I've been searching and searching on the internet for what I'm going through and Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is the closest thing I have found relating to what I'm going through.
Damn 5 years now lol, I’m okay and at work wise all is normal, the pain has gotten WAY better, almost no pain at times. My knee still bothers me now and then though, shit that I will live with forever. I still like to ice my knee every once in a while. Since I posted what I said, the stairs have gotten WAY better, BUT running like a normal person NOPE! I can jog a bit but not run/ sprint. Years later I learned and know I favor my good leg, After that 2nd bullshit knee scope surgery I ended up with muscle atrophy for some strange reason. As of today my left leg muscle calf and quad are still smaller in size/ mass vs. my right leg quad and calf. I have not been able to get my leg muscles to match my other leg. Why back then going upstairs was an issue for me. Also kneeling on my bad knee still hurts, so I don’t ever kneel on that knee. Or use knee pads at work if I have to be on both my knees. Looking back, I fucking regret ever having a fucking knee scope for a little small meniscus tear. The small little issue I was having with my knee was something I could live with and would have not had any of these fucking issues I have today. That’s life, wish I had a Time Machine and go back. That's my update, I'll probably one day, later later on visit a really good orthopedic specialist and check my knee situation but for now I'm okay, I work as normal, and walk normal thankfully lol, You can’t tell I have a knee issue, I don't let it bother me or complain about it. No one knows unless I talk about it.
Doctors, awesome presentation, Very nice video, correct taping method explained in a lucid way, thank you sooooo much, can u please suggest tips to prevent the tap coming off with in one day after wearing full length pant ( trousers), the edge of the tape sticking to inner side of Pant cloth

I'm a tour guide in NYC so walking & stair climbing is my livelihood. I must COMPLETELY recover. I've watched every video. But my therapist gave me no further instructions. He taught me how to walk UP stairs in 6 weeks. YAY! But what about the other part? LOL Never got to the down stair therapy session. WTH?!!! After continuing my daily exercises, devoted!!! 2hr sessions. I desperately knew something was missing in my rehab. I'm up at 4,5,6am watching videos for answers & solutions. & HOT DOGGIT I knew i could count on my boo thangs * Bob & Brad* to get me together! They're not the most famous therapists on the internet , for nothing!!!! I believe after I try this tape thingy, I'll be on my way too 100% The injury happened 6months ago. As of now, 24 weeks post injury ( no surgery BTW)Now I can do everything , pain free , even sit in a low sofaseat for hours due to my diligent exercises and drills and TENS machine daily. Thank the Lord!!! But I still can't run -at all, go down stairs, and only dance I can do is electric slide. Basic. BUMMER! I'm a trained dancer, and fierce Lindy hopper. I won't try any stunts or any acrobats but I would like to at least dance like a sexy momma in the dance floor, again :-). Also, I see incline walking is needed, as well, to stop my knee from free falling with i step on the decline. I wish i could get a facetime with you guys. You rock! You're an everyday blessing in everyway!!! Thanks again for being "ON IT"!
physicaltherapyvideo thanks guys. There were so many PT questions on it, and no one explains it better than you guys. I swore I had to remember what you said in this video for treating one PT symptom. Your videos are great. Thanks!
Guys I think it's great that you're trying to share diagnostic methods openly, but I really don't think that piece of tape is going to exert sufficient force to significantly change the way the kneecap is tracking. There is just too much force on the patella with a person's entire body weight on it. If patients are reporting more or less pain with the tape on I suspect this is just a placebo effect. (For comparison - try to hold someone's kneecap out of its "natural" position during a squat and see how much force that takes, and then think about whether a piece of tape attached to flexible skin could realistically do the same).
Well, I use tape as a diagnostic test, too. It gives me an indication of which muscles to strengthen that will help the patient's patella locate to a favourable position. Often this works well. Thanks guys for such great videos!
It improves proprioception and pulls tissue to support the Joi ts proper posture, more than not. It's not going to hold it like a brace but able to improve stabilization by allowing for exercises to do so with lesser pain to develop your own stabilization. Spoken from testament as an RN but a patient with Ehlers Danlos hypermobile type with all joints hyperextension and success in reducing pain for a condition that never will go away. So don't think of medical treatment as all or nothing, medicine has a spectrum of help for a spectrum of people. Not all fits all. Thanks is for your video guys! I tried your technique today and love all your videos and promote them to others. Appreciate your cheesy humour and care for others xoxo
Thank you for this... my knee got injured while doing jump and lunges combo.. it's been 20 days.. I have problem in bending and straightening knee...after prolonged standing or sitting( prolonged means 15 mins here). Doctor prescribed me some muscle relaxant but I didn't get better. Do I need to have x-ray done?
Thanks for the video and I have a question. For chondromalacia patella, does the patella move only laterally? cause if it moves inside, the taping method will make things worse.
first i want to say thank you for video. your post shed a ton light for me on what chlondermancia is and how to treat it. my question is there a way to cure it. i injured my knee in the military. i got surgery. i was able to go back to duty. A year goes by and i go for a physical and I'm diagnosis with the symdrome. the military medically discharged me for chlronomancia. thanks a lot for taking the time and reading my post. you guys are awesome
Hi Bob & Brad! Great video, thanks! Hoping you guys still check out these comments! My question is, you mentioned most of the time the knee cap may be misaligned on the lateral side of the knee so you want to tape it and pull it towards the medial side. However, how do we know which way the knee cap is actually misaligned? Mine feels like its jutted more on the medial side but I'm hesitant to tape it as I'm just not sure.
my knees doesnt move from its place like that. but i still expieremce discomfort from the cracking sounds, this means that i dont have the [patellofemoral syndrome right?
I wish I had found this years ago. I've spent 10 years going to Garey Ortho being told nothing was wrong. Last year I finally got an MRI and now it's stage IV chondromalacia and I need a knee replacement. I'm taking now.
@rit20095 They didn't get the mri til i had a fit. That's when they found what was wrong. I'm still putting it off trying to get the nerve up. I think I'll be going to USC this year. It's hard to trust people. I know someone who had a bad surgery and is still suffering.
Hello! Great video! I actually have pain going up the stairs. I was ill with subacute thyroiditis for 3.5 months and was not sitting well at my desk, since it was the only comfortable position in the midst of my illness, but I am feeling the repercussions now, as it wreaked havoc on my left leg muscles, which are now inflamed and out of whack, from the hip to the knee.
I was having a considerable amount (major) of crunching in my knees when I sat down low. I noticed my knees going outward when I sat down. The inner side of my left knee started to feel like something was wrong and slight pain occurred in that area very quickly and then went away when I sat down. I remembered when my physical therapist once wiggled my knee cap up and down and left and right to free it up when he first started me on therapy after being on crutches for a while. I had watched videos on it and remember doing it myself at home. So, this week I decided to do it again. What I found was my knee cap was stuck. I did a little up and down and left and right wiggling the first day to free it up slightly, and repeated for four more days only once a day. The creaking is oh so slight now, hardly noticeable at all. Basically my knee cap was stuck. My standing and walking is also better. When I sit down, my knees don’t go outward. They are lined up better. A couple more days ought to be enough.
Can i use tape on my knee everytime i train my legs if i have this? I have pai in the upper right part of the knee cap and from what a doc told(he didn't examined me though) i have Condromalacia Pattelae
thank you for sharing your knowledge. I think I got this problem due to severe running after years of inactivity. 1 month of rigorous running and after that I had pain in my knees which lead me to stop runnig and obviously gaining weight.
ive just learnt about chondromalacia, ive had bad knees for so long, I played football since I was 6 and never had any serious injuries, as I go to around 14-16 I started getting a little pain, now im 20 and I can't walk down steep hills, when I walk on flat ground I walk with a limp because as soon as I start to straighten my leg, it locks up from the muscles around it contracting to protect it, I can't sit cross legged from more than 5 minutes without being in an agonising dull ache in and around my knee cap, I remember getting home from a game I played and I was about 15, and my dad had to carry me up the stairs because I was in tears from so much pain trying to walk up them, wish I could get it healed and get back to playing
I injured my left-knee Meniscus a few months ago and am pain free now, my knee feels strange until I ‘Pop’ it (out side of knee cap) by flexing my leg up and down a few times. Will this tapering method work for me. Great videos, by the way. Thank you.
Thank you Bob and Brad for all of your video. I had the Patellofemoral pain and have been doing the exercises for 4 month and now I have very little pain. Can you tell me what I can do to relive the pain in my quad? 6 Doctors and 2 PT's and no one knows what to do. I think the femoral nerve is trapped in the quad. Thank you.
7 years ago I fell down a long flight of steps. My several bruises slowly got better. I ignored my knee. Do you suppose my patella (that goes to the right) might be caused by the fall?
My other half has Attenuated patella alta and several dislocations a week / subluxations to her joints. she too has EDS. She’s had so many operations to fix this as she has NO grove to hold knees in place . They tried to make her one . and they all failed it’s made her knee worse. She left with complex regional pain syndrome . As her surgeons have damage the nerves in her leg from her knee replacement and left her with drop foot.. This is only a temporary fix the tape is fantastic and does work. I have watch her over the years splint / brace and tape her knee for over 20 years the tape is doing the job your muscles should be as they are too weak hence the tape but the problem is she has extremely weak muscles left dip in top of the leg from muscles waste just above the knee as a result of taping the knee cap daily. It’s a catch 22 as the taping the knee has left her with other problems
Hi, I fell on the floor falling on the floor landing on the top of my right femor. I put ice on it , my back had more pain than normal from numerous lowback surgeries. The next day my femor seemed fine after icing it. I was able to go up and down stars without any pain. I stayed home and rested for 2 days. The 3rd day I went shopping and did a lot of walking and getting in and out of the car. A few hours later I started having Left knee pain with swelling. I wrapped with 2 ace bandages, the pain continued. A week later I went to urgent care, xrayed and found nothing. I waited another 2 weeks and went to see my pcm because I was getting shooting pains under my patella. He said I probably had Patellofemoral syndrome. Ordered a knee brace and said it should be better in a couple of weeks. I now know that my left foot slipped and caused the fall, so it did something to my knee. It is now starting to have pain and swelling in my left ankle. Its been 6 weeks and isn't getting any better. Is it possible to develop this syndrome from a fall ? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am leaving for a 6 week trip in 1 day so physical therapy probably wouldn't happen while I'm gone. Thanks and much gratitude for your suggestions. S newsham
I think I’ve had this condition for over 10 years due to an unhealed injury when I was little. I’m now 18 and I’m suffering from this condition, it’s even caused IT band bursitis. there’s swelling on my knee that’s been there for years. It hurts when I go downstairs more than upstairs
Holy shit this worked instantly. I just pushed my left patella to the left and tried bending my knee and pain was gone. Now i know it is definitely chondromalacia
omg, I can't believe it works, I don't have a tape, but I was able to push and hold my knee cap towards inside as I bent my knee and all the pain is gone, but once I get it go all the pain is back.

@Roman Kover Pain free now. I did physical therapy instead of in April of 2019. Thanks to banded terminal knee extensions and dry needling. I am now running and squatting again.
Would be good to consider/discuss that we don´t always move/bend our legs in the "perfect scenario", i.e straight line and to the front (which would provide perfect tracking of the patella, in theory at least). Consider soccer movements: tons of out of balance, multiple direction, one leg stands, through a game. Anyway, to anyone reading: stretch calves, hips, hamstrings, quads, ankles and focus on glutes strenght (main culprit, consider how much time we spend sitting).
The effect of the taping was an instant relief thanks guys. Now to find out the root cause of this pain. I have been running for 8 months without knee pains, then suddenly this pain has started. I did increase my distance from 5k up to 8/9k

Jazmine Guerrero i totally agree with you!!! I can’t bend my knee after playing soccer and i love it sooooo much. Next month i’ll have to go to the doctor bcs i have so much pain in my knee and i think i’m getting a brace.
Update: I went to the doctor again today, and i’m gonna get an X-ray tomorrow, and then i’m maybe gonna go to an specialist (orthopedic surgeon). I don’t know if I have it. But it’s worrying me because I can’t run and I can’t walk normally. Every time I turn my knee I get a crackling sensation in my knee
I have a question I play sports and I do sometimes fall on my knees. My school has stairs and recently I have realized that whenever I try to go up the stairs I have knee pain no pain during walking and some during running but that seems to be it. Could I have this

+physicaltherapyvideo what. does it mean if you have paella tendinitis at 12
@@dillonmike2591 it means your body sucks and you'll be a crippled old man one day
I was once diagnosed with chondromalacia patallae, caused not by misaligned tracking of the knee cap but by "lazy" (slow) tracking, due to misfiring of the quads caused by a "slack" rectus femoris; at least that's how the physiotherapist explained it to me.
In my humble, uneducated opinion, the "regular" chondromalacia that I had gets overlooked too often in favour of misalignment (PTFS), and I'm not sure why.
Thanks for sharing your experience

Very useful comment. Thanks.

Is there any way to repair the cartilage, maybe though surgery or anything?
MACI Google it. Autologous Cartilage Repair.
My kneecaps must be tight or something because I can't move them at all like the guy did in this video. Can't move it left or right. It's stuck right in the middle. And I actually do often have a very tight feeling with my knees.
dude, kneecaps moving that much ain't normal.
Kneecap wouldn't move if your muscles aren't relaxed. Keep the leg relaxed and try moving. It's natural to be able to move it when relaxed.
pranavv gautamm this seemed to work for me, although seemed like one kneecap was a bit tighter than the other. Can this happen (eg maybe a reason is that the strength balance isn’t the same in both legs around kneecap), or does it just mean I wasn’t fully relaxed?
@@zcharged8294 try again. I have knee problems too but when fully relaxed, I'm able to move both kneecaps equally.
That is another type of knee problem it might be causing the pain
Any advice on knee clicking on bending but no pain
Also femur externally rotated and pelvis anteriorly tilted
Dose tapping is permanent treatment? And long do we need to put on tape ?

Thank you so much it helps so keep putting tape until it feels better?
congratulations on 1 million subscribers!
i think i have watched every single one of your knee-related videos. its been a rough time for me lately with my knees.
Thank you so much! please heal up soon:)
Me, too! My PT sessions ran out , leaving me only 1/2 thru my rehab. Only 75% functional. 2x a week. Insurance covered 16 sessions. Thsts it. Too bad. No more, gotta go. :-( I dislocated my patella. Thanks again for being "ON IT"!
very good video. explains the pathophysiology for my MD boards. you guys are great!
physicaltherapyvideo thanks guys.
Same i love lunge and jump combo that is why i got this problem. How are you after 3 years prior. Nred some light to shed
? How did you guys used to look so young? Wow. What happened ? No offense. You guys are the Best !
What if my knee cap pull to inside not outside? How do I check which side my knee cap is pulling to?
Thanks for the video and I have a question.
For chondromalacia patella, does the patella move only laterally? cause if it moves inside, the taping method will make things worse.
오 놀랍게도 한국인 분이 계셨네요. 실례가 안된다면 효과가 있었는지 여쭈어봐도 될까요?
first i want to say thank you for video. your post shed a ton light for me on what chlondermancia is and how to treat it. my question is there a way to cure it. i injured my knee in the military. i got surgery. i was able to go back to duty.
No you definetely have it
I wish I had found this years ago. I've spent 10 years going to Garey Ortho being told nothing was wrong. Last year I finally got an MRI and now it's stage IV chondromalacia and I need a knee replacement. I'm taking now.
Did u go ahead with the surgery? I m 45 n diagnosed with grade 4 cmp.what treatment did u take?
@rit20095 They didn't get the mri til i had a fit. That's when they found what was wrong. I'm still putting it off trying to get the nerve up. I think I'll be going to USC this year. It's hard to trust people. I know someone who had a bad surgery and is still suffering.
Brads folding glasses are really cool!. Never seen anything like that before haha.
If I broke my femur in the army, in 2002, would that possibly be why my knee hurts so much? I am going to get the tape today!
Thank you gentleman. I have it all. Chondromalacia and arthritis after years of jogging. I can't squat anymore. Advice?
I don't have much pain but clicking, grinding etc. So, for how long I should use this?
Is it safe to tape the knee cap taped like that during regular daily activities like working on your feet or sports?
Tried this tonight with some KT tape and I’m amazed by the pain reduction
How are you
Can i use tape on my knee everytime i train my legs if i have this? I have pai in the upper right part of the knee cap and from what a doc told(he didn't examined me though) i have Condromalacia Pattelae
I have the crunching when I bend the knee but not pain. Will taping it stop the crunching?
I was doing partial squats today and it felt like it was getting stuck and when I went all the way up it like hurt slightly
I have PFPS, 42 yrs old. I can’t walk around my home without hurting. Hurt feels like bruises around periphery of knee. Not ready for PT yet
So sorry to hear that
thank you for sharing your knowledge. I think I got this problem due to severe running after years of inactivity. 1 month of rigorous running and after that I had pain in my knees which lead me to stop runnig and obviously gaining weight.
How’s it it now because I’m in the same exact situation mate
It was same for me
Did you guys beat it? How?
Probably need to update this video as Q angle is not indicative which you have stated in a newer video
ive just learnt about chondromalacia, ive had bad knees for so long, I played football since I was 6 and never had any serious injuries, as I go to around 14-16 I started getting a little pain, now im 20 and I can't walk down steep hills, when I walk on flat ground I walk with a limp because as soon as I start to straighten my leg, it locks up from the muscles around it contracting to protect it, I can't sit cross legged from more than 5 minutes without being in an agonising dull ache in and around my knee cap, I remember getting home from a game I played and I was about 15, and my dad had to carry me up the stairs because I was in tears from so much pain trying to walk up them, wish I could get it healed and get back to playing
I injured my left-knee Meniscus a few months ago and am pain free now, my knee feels strange until I ‘Pop’ it (out side of knee cap)
by flexing my leg up and down a few times.
When I did it it keeps taking the tape off after I bend the knee
Can it not be diagnosed with an MRI?
S newsham
Before this fall I never had any knee issues.
I understand, thanks
I think I’ve had this condition for over 10 years due to an unhealed injury when I was little. I’m now 18 and I’m suffering from this condition, it’s even caused IT band bursitis. there’s swelling on my knee that’s been there for years. It hurts when I go downstairs more than upstairs
if it's swelling I think that means it's dislocated 😳
Xiaraz it’s not, i went to a knee specialist and was diagnosed with hoffa’s disease
Hi bob and brad! Can you possibly do a review of the bioskin ten-7 brace that is used on your thigh?
Holy shit this worked instantly. I just pushed my left patella to the left and tried bending my knee and pain was gone. Now i know it is definitely chondromalacia
Thanks guys it's very helpful
Can u explain to me
Why it's happens alot more in women
And
Why it's hurts alot more when downstairs!?
omg, I can't believe it works, I don't have a tape, but I was able to push and hold my knee cap towards inside as I bent my knee and all the pain is gone, but once I get it go all the pain is back.
Could it be patellofemoral syndrome if I only get pain when I’m crossing my legs and never when I’m active?
I was diagnosed with this through an MRI. I have an Ortho who wants to do surgery on me. I am not sure what to do.
Go to another ortho to see if he's right
@@erenyesil5897 Merhaba bu condramalazi patella dan bende 8 yıldır müzdaribim.Sizce ne yapmalıyım egzersizler çare olmuyor dizimi bükmek çömelmek ve merdiven inip çıkmak artık işkence oldu 24 yaşımdayım .

@Roman Kover Pain free now. I did physical therapy instead of in April of 2019. Thanks to banded terminal knee extensions and dry needling. I am now running and squatting again.
@Roman Kover Diagnosed through MRI with grade 4 chondromalacia.
Can it be harmful to tape your knee to the side like that? That you can get shafing on the other side instead?
The effect of the taping was an instant relief thanks guys. Now to find out the root cause of this pain. I have been running for 8 months without knee pains, then suddenly this pain has started. I did increase my distance from 5k up to 8/9k
How are you now? Is chondromalacia still with you and cases the pain?
I got it when I was 14 & now I'm 15. It sucks because I can't do what I love the most which is cheer.
Jazmine Guerrero Same same... how is it now? I have a meniscus tear in the same knee and people keep ranting about how a kid shouldn’t get all this stuff 🙄
Jazmine Guerrero i totally agree with you!!! I can’t bend my knee after playing soccer and i love it sooooo much. Next month i’ll have to go to the doctor bcs i have so much pain in my knee and i think i’m getting a brace.
I tore my ACL when I was four and it got so bad I had to quit basketball. It hurts to run and really sucks.😞
Update:
I went to the doctor again today, and i’m gonna get an X-ray tomorrow, and then i’m maybe gonna go to an specialist (orthopedic surgeon). I’m in pain everyday, and i went to soccer practice last night and i had so much pain when i played and it really began to hurt when i got in the car🙄. I hate it bcs i can’t play soccer💔
Could I have this
I have this and it sucks. When you straighten your knee does your knee crunch and or have a grinding sensation?
my doctor said i have this and this video proves i do... ive had it for 6 months and its barley gotten better and its making me unable to run correctly infact i have to limp to run it is also hard to walk up stairs or upand down inclines how can i help it heal
Thanks a lot for this video. I am using knee braces from Donjoy company as I was diagnosed as stage 1 chondromalacia patallea . if I use this tape along with the knee braces would it be usefell to solve the disease. ??
