Hey bud, good seeing ya again. You can talk about speakers anytime! I like learning about speakers too. You always seem to find the friggin AWESOME deals! You've come a long way since you started this channel. Here's to a great 2024 ol' buddy. 👍🏻
Thanks, good to be back! I know damn near nothing about speakers lol but I’m trying to learn, definitely have a few more pair to talk about. I’ve definitely been fortunate on finding some good deals but there have also been a few super deals that got away from me (not that I’m mad about it. Well…maybe a little…or a lot, hahaha!) I mostly cruise FB Marketplace waiting for something to pop up. Lots and lots of waiting. But there is one thrift store that occasionally gets some good stuff so I try to hit it up when I can. I hope you have an awesome 2024 too!!
I just saw these speakers at Goodwill! I almost picked them up, but I didn't feel like waiting in the long line.😂 I really don't have the room for any more speakers, though. I would be interested in seeing those Jbl's, too!
Yeah the line at this particular thrift store is always super long too! I got a pair of Minimus 7’s from there too and standing in line for 20-30 minutes with 5 pound metal bricks in your hands is not my idea of a good time lol. As for the MC-1401’s, I like them, I didn’t really have the room either (my art studio is like 10x11’) but I wanted a full size set of Realistic speakers, I’ve been piecing together an entire Realistic system and now all I need is a turntable! Prolly gonna talk about the JBL’s next. Spoiler alert: they fuckin rock, haha
@TheVintageNewbie Dude, yes!!! I usually grab a cart when I go in, but anytime I do, they don't have anything worth grabbing. Every time I go in without a cart, they have something that weighs as much as a small to medium-sized child that you have to hold or balance on your head for like 30 minutes!😅 and yeah, the minimus 7's suck to hold for a while! Do t make em like that anymore!
Why are you ending the search for Realistic gear? I kinda have an obsession with it, as Radio Shack was my hangout in my youth! I have five Realistic receivers currently but am always lookiing. Remember, a man who dies with the most toys wins.
Dammit I’m trying to be sensible, haha! I mean, I say I’m done but literally last night I was looking up Mach One speakers and other Realistic gear lol. I’m a big fan as well. Which is weird because I wasn’t always (probably because my first “system” was an all-in-one Clarinette 124 from Radio Shack that was quite awful) but after getting an STA-84 and especially an STA-90 I’m all in! I recently picked up an STA-76 that has a pretty bad hum (power supply caps? That’s what I’ve heard at least), I have no idea how to fix it but maybe this is where I’ll take a dive and try to learn. Which receivers do you have?
It all started with an STA-2000D I bought in 1979 with T-100 speakers. Recently, I have been obsessed with these things, and am on a hunt for them. I have been into electronics all my life and look for dead ones that I can fix up. So my recent acquisitions are an STA-2700, STA-430, STA-111, STA-7, STA-64B, SA-500 (80’s Amp with matching Tuner ST-500) and a Lafayette LR-1515. I also just found a pair of Mach 2’s for $10 that need foams and 6 Minimus 7’s. There are a couple turntables and tape decks here also, all Realistic and a Dual turntable also that I bought in 1980. @@TheVintageNewbie

Those Minimus 7's were surprisingly good.
