‘Quickening mentality of Roots Rock Reggae in the era of troubled times’
Medz has been active in Jamaica, which we all know is a mecca of reggae music. In this time of continued global difficulty, their ultimate purpose of delivering music is to reawaken the people’s awareness to Roots Rock Reggae. The real significance of Roots Rock Reggae sound should be the key to overcome this era, since its most important element is to be revolutionary.
Earl Chinna Smith has embodied the strength and belief throughout the history of reggae music up until the present day, and is a mentor to Chalis. In a textbook called ‘Reggae,’ he would definitely be one of the most important figures to be mentioned in the pages.
When Chalis sincerely faced his music life once again, he was moved by the song, ‘Mariwana,’ released by Soul Syndicate-Harvest High Times Record in 1978. The song consisted of a dynamic track and simple yet still very rootical lyrics, and he also felt it to be very relevant to the current era. He would be honored to be able to revive the message of this song to the people.
Busy Signal is an artist who is gifted to always have a mix of both old school and modern style in his own fresh and passionate approach. He didn’t only retain the song’s original message, but put it into a new style to fit to 2021. Medz hopes and prays that the mentality of ‘Roots Rock Reggae’ will reach out to the people in the world throughout this freshly created ‘Mariwana’ .
