I've been wanting to tackle more general anime history for a while, so if you all like this video, expect to see more like it! This is hopefully this first of many like it. If you have suggestions for other non-main cast member Pokemon that you want me to cover, open to suggestions :)

Sableye has always been my favourite Pokemon (alongside a few others) and I've ALWAYS said that Ash should've caught one! It suits him sooooooo much!! I was heartbroken when he bonded with the one in the Genesect movie but then didn't catch it 😭💔

Sableye is one of those overlooked Pokemon. He honestly reminds me of Stitch, especially the voice. He has that cute and feisty personality. 😊💜🥰

I agree Ash definitely should have catch Sableye cuz honestly when I first saw the Ruby and Sapphire series episode I thought Ash would catch it in the end but Sableye would have been a great Pokémon on Ash’s Team.

@@ProfessorAlexSilverYeah I feel for ya and I guess we all wish Ash catch other Pokémon before and if I had to decide what other Pokémon Ash should catch it be Teddiursa and he would have an awesome Ursaring in his Team but that’s a big “IF”

Sabelye would be an interesting addition to ash’s teams I think if ash were to return in a future series that could be an opportunity for ash to get one but I’m pretty sure that would be another journeys situation and no one what’s that and would prefer ash to catch some Gen 9 Pokémon since ash isn’t in horizon! Also I think you should do a video on all ash’s attempts on catching dunaparce people have been talking about that back when the journeys Saga was still airing. 😁👍
I think it would need some sort of evolution or new form to join Ash's team at this point

Sabeleye likely didn't join Ash's team in Hoenn due to Dark type in Japan, the Aku type, literally means "the Evil type" and part of the anime's original design philosophy was that no main protagonists could have a Dark type on their team, this is also why Corphish never evolved despite being a very prominent battler for Ash. This design philosophy wouldn't be repealed until the fifth generation with the franchise's soft reboot finally allowing Ash to have his first dark type in Scraggy followed by Krookodile.

@@natalimoinaGen 5 was considered by many to be a soft reboot, as it marked several shifts in design philosophy.
I always hated that Corphish never evolved and a reason for that is not only due to Ash lacking final evo water Pokemon (Krabby to Kingler felt so rushed, but even then never battled again and until Greninja then left...), but the fact it had something of a rivalry with Treeko which it then evolved to Grovyle made the gap worse in making it jealous of all the attention Grovyle got from its new-found power. You would think that one it had become Sceptile that Corphish would have finally evolved to stand more toe to toe with its rival, but nah writers seems to just forget about the dynamic they added among those two of Ash's Hoenn Pokemon.

Oh yeah, we NEED hippotatas one next, i was always down how ash never caught him, specially when journey could of had him revisit areas like that, mt silver with larivatar, etc
I remember even as a kid I thought ash was going to catch that sableye in hoenn, first time I really questioned Ash's captures (or lack there of). Would have been cool had he got one
I actually never knew how often this Pokémon showed up until now lol

As a kid I saw an episode of a sableye in a team rocket episode
So I had this Mandela effect for years that Jessie had a sableye
Same for ash and camerupt
So in my headcanon I always saw sableye more as a team rocket pokemon
Would've been a good fit for Jessie, similar to Mimikyu

Another Pokémon I wish Ash would've caught was Dunsparce. There was even once he encountered one and wanted to catch it, but had no balls on hand so it fled. I could imagine Ash cameo in Horizons revealing it evolved into a Three Segment
I never knew about the sableye in dewford. It really wouldn't have hurt to at least add it to ash's reserves. Although I feel like it would have gotten the roggenrola treatment.

thanks, i know Ash and Dawn both have a Quilava but given their screen time is limited, they feel like wasted Pokemon

Back when I was a kid I played pokémon emerald and my starter was Mudkip and it was the only pokémon I used but when I was In granite cave I caught a Sableye and put next to My Swampert and since there are SO MANY double battle's in emerald it grew a bunch of levels and along with My Mudzilla(Swampert) it was a force to be reckoned with and one of my favourite Pokemon
this was very informative. someone on the team liked sableye, as well as gengar. (game freak devs) I wish journeys used revisited a lot of the pokemon Ash hadn't seen in a very long time as he would know their locations for the most part.
That would be an awesome journey

I trained one during my last time playing Sapphire & honestly loved it's abilities/moves. Would definitely train one again if I ever get the chance.

The most likely reason why Ash never caught a Sableye (or any other Dark-Type) is sadly lost in translation. In Japanese, the Dark type is actually written EVIL type and I’m sure the Pokémon company didn’t want its hero using a Pokémon that was viewed as “Evil”.
This also carries over to the games since most evil teams use Dark type, and we never got a Dark type gym leader/specialist until Gen 7. Yes there was Sydney, but E4 doesn’t count since he wasn’t really a character.
Sabeleye would of been an interesting ash capture for sure.
Catching a Sableye is what I always ended up doing if I was having trouble against Brawley in Sapphire lol I'm not sure if Ash should have caught one though. I'm more annoyed he didn't get the shiny Phantump in Kalos. & they also kept not allowing him to catch a Dunsparce in Unova.
Can you please do a series like this? I would love it if you talk about the miss opportunity of Ash not getting his very own Eevee and later evolving said Eevee into an Espeon since Gary has an Umbreon. And I’m sure a lot of people would love to hear you talk about the miss opportunity of Ash not getting a Larvitar in the Johto seasons and a legendary Pokémon like Solgaleo or Latias

You know I agree I think looking at all these examples I agree that Sableye would have been a great addition to Ash's team and the gang's family.
I have theorized that we could see Ash again so he could destroy Team Rocket and it could be possible he could get a few new Pokemon like Sableye. Though when it comes to Ghost Types, I think he's more likely to regain Primeape who would evolve into Annihilape.

Honestly I’ve always thought it was something of a missed opportunity for ash Ketchum to have caught especially as a potential mega when mega evolution became a thing and it’s typing would’ve been useful before the fairy type came into being

You know why I wish Ash caught Sableye? Cause of the Genesect movie. The Sableye there was so cute! Plus, considering the fact Haunter stayed with Sabrina, this could’ve made up for it.
Sabeleye being caught before Brawly in AG anime would have been interesting as Brawly wouldn't be able to hit
Sableye is my all time favourite pokemon ever so seeing one being a pokemon of main cast would have been amazing.

OMFG YES, I’ve always felt in Hoenn, Ash should’ve caught a Sableye instead of Glalie. Sure Glalie had a few decent wins but I’m not replacing Torkoal or Corphish. Also, it would’ve great to see Ash’s personality mix with a Dark type
What if all those Sableye were actually just one? He would’ve been on quite the adventure, and went through so many different trainers.
I still think an anime where ash caught like 8 pokemon for gens and had a rotating roster with filler heavily giving the pokemon their development and it would’ve worked out so nicely

Imagine ash capturing sableye during his training arc for brawly's rematch and just sweeping both pokemon as the only move that could hit him on brawly's team would be hariyama's knockoff

Ash with a Sableye would've been cool to see cause it cause scream Ash's Pokemon when you look at it. Really don't know why the anime held back on giving Ash a Ghost until Journey. There were plenty opportunities to give him one.
Haunter in Kanto, Shiny Phantump in Kalos, Palossand in Alola and have Rowlet evolve into Decidueye.
Plenty opportunities, maybe they thought a Ghost wouldn't fit Ash.
Prob for the same reason why he didn’t get a dark type for awhile
Ghosts are seen as mean and scary and that wouldn’t fit a protagonist

ash's missed opportunity can be categorized and made into novels... cause there were so many.....
i really love sableye too, its one of the reasons i preferred sapphire more back then. plus getting it by gym 2 means you essentially have a nigh full counter to brawley
Was pretty casual when Gen 3 came out. Still rented Gale of Darkness and found Sableyes movements geniounley creepy
Im personally curious how it would had played out if Ash had captured Bulbasaur and Allowed Brock to capture the Charmander and to even the Starters out in this scenario lets give Squirtle to Misty. If this all apply what would all change. Thats what i want to know

Wait, a Sableye got damaged by Spike Cannon?! Unless someone used Foresight or Odor Sleuth on it first, that shouldn't have happened because Spike Cannon is a Normal-type attack and Sableye is a Dark/Ghost type.
And i always thought how awesome it would be if Brock caught Aggron

I never found a ghots type that actually fit to Ash for me, (yes even this day i still doesn't feel that Gengar fits Ash personality and battle style), but after watching this video, that reminded me his anime debut and make a comparison with Snorunt I think that sableye would have been a great addition to Ash's Team and the perfect ghost type for his roster
P.S. Now I just need to find a fairy type that fits with Ash and i have a headcanon where Ash has a pokemon of each of the type

If pokemon unite is correct, Sableye can turn invisible. I think that would have made for very intesting battles. I love my little gremlin pokemon.

If I was in the anime Sableye should be my partner Pokémon as I go on a journey to solve the mysteries of Mega Evolution by finding mega stones in caves all over Kalos and Hoenn possibly other regions too.
