Stark was never a coward. Just a frightened little kid who lost his Big Brother. I'm sure Stoltz is very proud of the warrior Stark came to be. And even more so when Stark becomes a Hero.
Stark is just lacking of fighting experience. In later chapters, he never run away anymore, even he has to fight with demons stronger than him, a brave man truly.
In episode 5 there's a track that plays right when they get to the village, it starts with guitar and blends into a stringed instrument like a violin/viola. I would love to see that song covered, it's so simple and beautiful.

This theme remind me a bit of Frog's theme from Chrono Trigger. I see some parallel between Stark and Frog too, especially splitting the mountain :). Would be really cool if the author did actually pay homage to Frog
