David Alan Coe didn't destroy his career, he made it his own. Very few people are even aware of his x-rated album, and you forgot to mention that he had a black drummer for many years. Regardless, he still doesn't care what anyone thinks.
I have his Black album with all racist songs
@@mickeymarchwick4752 congratulations, so do I.
You're exactly right but these nimrods who decided to make this immature poor quality lack of information video have no sense.
I've heard this channel say alot of thing that just sound crazy. But I would reckon this channel is "mainstream" much like radio is. So it's nothin to take too seriously
@ John I agree with you
David Allen was a real country outlaw
And 1% er
Country asshole
I agree and so what he uses the n word they use it all the time at each other in songs they also call us racially offensive names I'll always love David Allen Coe and I'm not racist neither was he
An Outlaw MC’er.
He didn’t put up with any bull shit so in todays words he destroyed his career hahaha people r dumb
Well I’ve met David Allen Coe several times, very nice and humble guy honestly…this crap people call “country music’ today is simply pop music.
Can't argue with that, as with very few exceptions, country music was "Murder(ed) On Music Row" years ago.
@@bobby-ov9qnAlan Jackson is country
I loved The Band Perry. I would love to see them come back. As country artists not pop.
I miss the Band Perry! Was crazy what they did! People just can’t do what they are good at and let the rest happen on its own! Always think they know best! And they DON’T!
Again who the hell is that
I think the Dixie Chick's t-shirts with F*ck You Toby Keith did more to lose fans than what they said about G Bush.
True
Dixie chicks are a joke
Yea especially with them being relatively new at the time and him being at about his peak. Never a good idea to take a shot at the top dog, cause if you miss you’re screwed.
for me, it was 'feminism' in general. I'm a woman & B*****s shoutin *( mislabeled as "activism" 🙄 --- i hope you could HEAR my eye-roll there. ugh) * like they've got huge balls, ironically, makes my want to thrash my eardrums out with a #2 pencil!!
and removing 'Dixie' from your band name like it's some dirty word --- bc you're so woke, it actually switches on 'mental retardation' in your brain. Dixie is simply the name for 'the South' which NEWSFLASH doesn't make you 'default' racist. Well, 'The Girls', Dixie doesn't want y'all anyway.
what is considered 'The South' is the majority of this country. WHY would you alienate most, IF NOT ALL, of your fanbase? so, as DJ Khalid once wisely said"Congratulations, ya played yaself!"
I wasn’t even aware they had that on their shirts. I’m sure they were trying to be sassy and look tough, 😂
If it doesn't have a fiddle and/or steel guitar it isn't country, it's pop
AMEN to that Brother
when you hear twin fiddles and a steel guitar
listen to the sound of the american heart
DAC is a county legend among those of us out in the real country.
I was wondering what became of The Band Perry a few days ago. It's a shame they disappeared.
Kimberly Perry just released "If I die Young, Pt. 2." You should check it out. It is played on radio where I live and in the CMT/Taste of Country News lately.
David Allen Cole did all these things on his own terms which to me makes him one of the greatest outlaws of country music ! I love his song “ time off for bad behavior “
Who is David Allan Cole?
Nah whips and chains 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
David Allen Coe didn't ruin his career. He did what they allowed him too. Society don't like people that do what they want or say what they want. I still pay to see his shows. And I bought his records.
ALLAN
Jfc
So many DAC "fans" can't even get his name right
I still love Coe's music. I got the chance to meet him at Fan Fair in 1987. I am not saying that what he said was all right. There are rap songs with worse content. But DavidbAllan Coe will always be a rebel and a legend.
DAC- the GOAT
Society doesn't like racists.
Jimmy Wayne is such a talented artist. All the blessings he has made possible for foster children and then for his record label to drop him. He's an angel in my mind and he deserves every blessing that is bestowed upon him. His calling is much greater than that record label.
Agreed
He had such a tragic up-bringing too.
yeah..recording company did it,not J.W... he's a stand up guy doing good..not greed
Amen
Who the hell is that no one over the age of 40 has even heard of the dude
I like Band Perry they just got from country to pop ! If they had stayed to country they would still be in the business.
I heard some of their pop stuff...I didn't think it was very good. I like all kinds of music from country to classical.. except for rap...just don't get it.
Nope they split up and are doing their own things
What actually "killed" Charlie Rich's career was a little thing called alcoholism.
Yeah, and everyone was pissed John Denver won because he wasn't country he was a folk singer.
Huge respect for Charlie Rich

@@Lizardboy68 that's true
David Allen Coe is a living legend
Saw him at Devil's Deciples party and in concert in Sheridan wyoming
@@mickeymarchwick4752 I believe he was in the outlaw mc at one time too
Saying the N word in a song would not have killed your career in the 70’s or 80’s. Don’t judge things by todays standards.
Having said the N word in the 70's or 80's could kill your career today.THAT is how stupid things have gotten today.
David Allan Coe did a song, mostly recorded in spoken form called If Only I Was A N*****. I don't think or I don't know if it was a single,I seriously doubt that it would make it to the radio even in the 70s and 80s but I doubt that songs with such a title and subject matter would even be allowed to be recorded nowadays. But that song is not racist,it's written to express frustrations on the entitlement that blacks and other ethnical races tend to get just for being such, and robbing hard workers-including those African-Americans and people of other ethnics who do actually go the right route and work,so as not to come across as being racist because I am not-of fractions of their hard earned dollars and such.
David Allen Coe was not available for comment.
@@JamesSmith-jq6om
And had a black drummer at the time
@@JamesSmith-jq6om funniest part of the whole thing is one of the co writers is black and so was his drummer at the time
I used to work in surveillance in casinos in Louisiana and got to meet David Allen Coe multiple times, I actually liked the guy.
The Band Perry simply made their money in county and moved on to what they wanted to play. Though they really weren't very country, I still loved what they did do and wish them well in the future
Isn't that just what Taylor Swift did???
The band Perry set their own way into the world I'm like people are gonna hate on good groups like them still.
@@klcpca Sort of only Taylor managed to remain famous after jumping full on pop
I still play and like the band Perry to this day
Natalie being stupid is only really bad in the fact that she hurt her bandmates in the process and not just herself. 😢
Cash would have been on this list soooo many different times throughout his career.
1 thing you should mention about the Dixie Chick. Their song "Not Ready to Play Nice" was written in responce to the "President Bush" backlash. Ironicly The song won the Country Grammy that year ... without it EVER being played on Country Radio.
The music industry's treatment of artists who chose to make their own statements, be it The Chicks, David Allen Coe, or anyone else expressing their own interest tells you everything one needs to know about the dishonesty of the recording and promotion business. There is a reason punk acts gain cult like followers and it's not because the system props then up, a la Justin Bieber.
We need more independent labels and less conglomerate recycled trash.
Totally agree with you Brian. I am still PISSED at what happened to the Dixie Chicks. Despite what these two bozos said, country music is not very forgiving. Just flip through the comment section of any Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks or Trisha Yearwood video. People are still holding grudges against them cheating and Johnny Cash has been dead almost twenty years and the cheating people are still pissed about happened over fifty years ago.
@@barbarapearson5896 Country music has Conservative artist with conservative values. If you dont like it, youre probably in the wrong genre.
They just don’t seem to know their audience 🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴
I didn't buy it and wouldn't until now.
I like The Band Perrys music. I hope they'll be able to make a comeback. Other singers have done or said bad things and have made a comeback. I hope The Band Perry does too.
Very talented band. I would love to see them back on the scene.
In the movie beer for my horses David Alan Coe was in the circus scene with Willie
DAC and Willie were always very close it was Waylon who kind of kept his distance from him
willie helps him out
@@Sam-fc8ik Waylon was like that with everyone -
@@Sam-fc8ik Waylon didn't like Merle cause when Waylon was still making his name and Merle was a bona fide star a few of them were playing poker and Merle cleaned him out + he thought Merle would give him his money back but Merle was like if you are gonna live this life on the road , and you want to play poker wituh us your gonna have to bite it off - Waylon held grudges like no other
@@Sam-fc8ik Waylon never cared for DAC to the point that Waylon said if Coe had used Waylon's last name in the song Willie, Waylon, and me that the song wouldn't have had radio airplay for long. Waylon said he would have sued Coe to stop the distribution of the song if his last name had been used.
Jamey Johnson reminds me a lot of David Allen Coe. He had a good run for a few years and then disappeared from country radio.
DAC paved the way so we know his Music and he's one solid and true man!
Charlie Rich started out in Rock and Roll and I always felt his country music was more Pop. So for him to call out John Denver was so bazaar.
Rich was a low life
And John Denver could ride a horse -
@@toddgittins5692 I wouldn't go that far - liquor and cocaine and pills didn't do him any favors - He was a talented dude who didn't handle his success and let the barroom talk influence his judgement - He was the reigning entertainer of the year and he didn't calibrate himself -
Rich forgot, he was a crossover artist too
Wasn’t Charlie’s objection to John Denver over draft-dodging ? It happened before I was born, so of course I didn’t see it firsthand. My dad was the one who told me he thought it had more to do with John Denvers stance on draft dodging than anything else.
The Band Perry doing pop is still way more country than a lot of the stuff from 2010 or so onward.
Facts 😂
It wasn’t *just* what Natalie Maines said, it’s the fact that she said it on foreign soil.
On the one hand, Natalie was just carrying on the Texas tradition of shooting your mouth off without thinking it through. The problem was that she did it on foreign soil on the eve of US troops going into battle, making her bandmates' immediate follow up of "But we support the troops" come across as rather hollow.
Exactly. Context is everything. Criticizing the president to another country is all together different than criticizing the president here at home.
And the same people cheered when Trump said it 🙄
@@yellowhammer3 you know it's all about double standards and hypocrisy don't you?

One thing about Charlie Rich was he got a take it or leave it point in his career. Toured when he wanted and usually only played on weekends to devote more time to himself a a away from work.
Charlie was so drunk at a concert on the 70s he couldnt stand up to accept flowers from female fans from on stage. Sat on piano bench cut show short left with help from his crew.
Keith Richards, in the 70’s, was the same way except for the fact he had the Rolling Stones to cover for him.
Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks are entitled to their opinions. They’re entitled to express their opinions. However when your an entertainer you’re hired to entertain. Where and when you tell the public is important. In her case she went all out alienating half her fan base
And stars should stay out of politics on stage
Ya dont do in a war zone
I paid for music not their political opinion
I think the fact that she made an anti-US presidential statement on foreign soil especially galled people.

I still listen to The Band Perry. I wish they put out new music.
The band Perry just didn’t want to be country anymore. They started making eccentric techno pop music that nobody liked. It was what they wanted to do but it didn’t fit into any popular music category and not enough people liked it to be played on radio stations.
Might want to add Maren Morris to this list. She's on her way.

4:02 I worked in country radio in the 1990s and there were so many up-and-coming performers in country radio, only to disappear. Where are: Tracy, Lawrence, Tracy Byrd, wade haze, Deana Carter, Aaron Tippin, Sammy Kershaw… There are probably more, but can’t think of them right now. Of course, suzy Bogguss, 4:12 Shania, and Garth and Toby Keith were standouts.
I really liked everyone you mentioned. In your background in country, what really did happen to them? I thought they were mostly very talented.
I’m not really sure, but would love to know where they went, and what happened. I know that one or two of them had illnesses and others second albums didn’t do so well…
It's a sad day in America when you cannot speak your mind ! And if you do speak your mind you kill your career ! So what the hell really going on !
We haven't been able to safely speak our minds for a very long time.
Only the topics we are not allowed to discuss change. But there is always some group telling us what we can't say.
And if you touch on one of those topics, you'll get 'canceled' fast.
The Dixie Chicks did it overseas. They disparaged the US in a foreign country.
Polosi, obuma,chaney Clinton ......
It's no different than saying the wrong thing at work and getting fired. We all used to have a filter, more in 2003 than now. Instead of a filter, it was called respect. I grew up in a time when the President was never talked about in a bad way.
You also forgot to mention about Natalie Maines that she has spoken out about how she hates country music and that singing it made her “ears bleed.”
While the George Bush saga was the start of their issues, they would have been accepted back if she didn’t insult the entire industry multiple times.
Ty Herndon, great singer and was set up to be the next biggest thing in country music. Great voice, good looking but yes that undercover incident torpedoed his career.
He still had some success after. Glad that he is"out" and pulled through his mental health issues of the past few years

All right guys let's not forget that the Dixie Chicks actually tanked their career twice the first time was with the President Bush statement which country fans forgave and they started getting play on radio but then in 2006 when they bashed country music and said they didn't want to be associated with artists like Toby Keith and Reba McEntire they tanked it again and country fans completely turned their backs on them so they managed to get back on the country radio and then shot themselves in the foot again by saying they didn't want to be associated with country music
The Band Perry could've went down as legends if they had just stayed the course. All your life was a masterpiece.
I think they could still do a comeback!
It wasn't what Maines said to me, it was what she said it. She should have guts to say what she wanted at US venue not overseas.
Posting 10-29-22. As most of you well know, Jerry lee Lewis died yesterday. In 1958, he married his cousin and to top it off, she was only 13. He was in something of an exile for years, but came back stronger than ever as a country act. He started out as a rock 'n' roller, though I think some of his early stuff did hit the country charts.

The way I see it. Nowadays with the internet ,,as long as their music is out there and they have fans, nobody can cancel anyone. Can the major labels ban people, yes they do it all the time. Can anyone start their own label? Yes absolutely 💯. Just remember kids ,those that can't do criticize, those that can't do teach.
People only hate certain bands because some critic with an axe to grind told them to.
The only think Natalie did wrong was speak up against something that was perceived to be a universally shared conservative opinion. She didn’t torpedo anything. They’ve remained PHENOMENALLY successful. Country radio meat heads were the people at fault with The Chicks, not the band members.
2019 and 2020, they got 4 radio hits and one of them was with Taylor Swift. They even hit the top 40 on country radio in 2006 with Not Ready To Make Nice. These people do not do their research on these matters.

It was Natalie Maines ALONE that brought down the Dixie Chicks. It's unfortunate she took her band mates down with her!
The US owes them an apology.
The Band Perry decided to step away from Country music because they were being forced by their label to do songs they didn’t like and didn’t want to do. They wanted their music to be on their own terms and they opted for a new sound. Did it “destroy” their Country career…yes. David Allen coe and a black guy wrote those n word songs in prison he’s not racist his drummer is black I had to educate myself on this
Even if he does have a black drummer, and the black guy wrote the songs, it doesn't matter. The angle is to ALWAYS make white people look bad so it then follows that it's ok and encouraged to hate Whites and treat them any which way. It's the nonwhite Narritive agenda. Whites got the " n" word pass years ago after the blacks started calling it to each other and silmotaneously calling Whites " Honkys", "crackers", and " devils". We need to wake up to the anti White agenda. It's not hateful to be aware, because the pot never stops being stirred

It's crazy that they thought that was a good idea as country singers, but also if they'd done it in today's world they definitely wouldn't have lost their careers over it, so many have changed their outlook on him, rightfully so.
Bottom line - don’t poop on your fans and expect them to buy your music, or attend your shows. They are good musicians.
The only ones who killed their Country music career are produces, record labels, and managers who put profit in front of tradition. That is why the best REAL country artists are now independent.
The best REAL country artists are dead.
