This is one of your best reviews. You really delve into the psychology of the movie. Thank you for that. You convinced me to go see this movie. Great Job!!!
That screen was pretty good but like... it kind of fucks the film's message. Megan doing that was actually a good example of parenting and the main female lead basically goes... "oh shit this robot is actually doing a better job then maybe and is clearly more emotionally invested in nurturing this kid." It makes Megan to human basically and thus loses the message that machines can only do so much in raising a kid. Instead it just comes down to "yeah this robot is fucking murderous for no reason, we gotta get rid of it."
Glad you liked this. I am not a horror fan but I thought this looked like it could be something different. Glad to hear it was. "Mthreegan2 - now with more dance moves."
There's an unrated version so you hit the nail on the head! I bought the unrated version. I'll edit this after my watch lol but your unrated prediction was awesome haha
It definitely was meant to be R rated. The director came out and admitted it. He also tried to tell fans that the PG13 cut was scarier than the original R rated cut 🤭🤭🤭
Which isn't necessarily untrue. Sometimes less is more. So many movies think more gore means more scares, but the opposite is often true. What you can't see is often far scarier than what you can.
@@alexubel Exactly. For me it's about tension. Atmosphere. I love gore, but that doesn't equal scares, as you said. And jump scares... Most of the time are not scary.
@@alexubel of course yes. But I really don't think by the trailers that this is one of those films though. I mean really does it look like a high suspense film?

@@quayequaye4577 hardly a whodunit dude. Everyone knew by the half way point that there was no killer and it stripped all the thrill and mystery of the film.
Personally for me the scariest thing about the trailer is how it takes uncanny valley to a whole new uncomfortable level. The execution feels somewhere between the live actor performance of AI and the animatronic puppetry of Childs play. Looks like a fun time.
I know a lot of people see it as uncanny, but somehow the M3GAN that they designed looks just realistic enough to be acceptable. I don't know if it was the makeup, or the hair, or the eyes (I think the eyes), but it's movements were smooth enough too.
I also think it’s interesting that Jenna never really showed that much emotion about her sister dying. It’s like she so use to AI herself that she was literally becoming a rebot. Katie actually taught her what love is as well at the end.
Or it could just be poor acting and writing. This actress Allison Williams kinda had two states the entire time. Either a subtle grin on her face, or she'd be expressionless which didn't suit the events that happened to her. The movie was silly.
@@none377 You cant tell that its bad acting when actually the actress wasnt even trying to cry. I think that the producers and the directors forgot to tell her that she has to cry or forgot that the actress is ACTUALLY in the mom's sister boots that has to cry for her sister's death. For short the makers of the movie forgot that actress is the mom's sister
I’ve been looking forward to seeing this, but after seeing the month, I’ll admit to being a bit skeptical. Glad to know this really is a solid flick! Thank you, Jeremy! 😊❤️
I would honestly be shocked if we don't get unrated cut at the very least. It feels like this movie was recut at some point so hopefully we get both versions.
Hey Jeremy. Long time viewer and just subscribed. I like your reviews because they are wholesome, honest and funny. I get a really good idea if I will like the movie or not and that's impressive given how fickle I am Given that I actually saw M3gan Monday night and once again felt exactly the way you did. Not much enthusiasm for a PG13 January horror movie, but walked away cry laughing at how much fun I had seeing this movie. It does have its flaws but the elevated theme and overwhelming personality of M3gan outweighed it. Hope they at least do a sequel. Also would love to see the R rated directory cut/extended version Keep up the good work!
I couldn't believe I enjoyed this movie as much as I did - especially with the bad reputation of JAN horror films. M3GAN deserves a spot in "creepy doll horror" now!
Thought this would be terrible but saw it was getting decent reviews and since I had some time to go by the theater I decided go check it out. Not bad for what it is!
Saw it last night and overall enjoyed it. The comedy beats were actually really well done, the creepiness was very well done - when she rises out of the shadows, the slight modulation changes in her voice when she is being menacing, and the close ups on her eyes as she’s ALWAYS watching everything with a cold, calculating, alien intelligence. The emotional moments actually caught me off guard. Like, I legitimately started rooting for M3gan. Mild spoiler. All in all, it was a fun time and I wish it had a better ending; M3gan deserved to win. Funnily enough, the aunt “winning” was actually kind of losing. She’s going to lose her job, face some kind of legal issues, and she’s definitely going to lose Katie.

Realistically, just building a robot like M3gan with a fully functional A.I would have granted Gemma quite a few Nobel and not Nobel prices and all the 🤑💰 she could ask for. More than enough for a few mansions, a small legions of servants...and five or six nannies plus a personal tutor for Katie.
I love campy horror movies. In a world where basically everything seems serious now, I'm glad there's still horror movies like this that's basically self aware, absurd and doesn't take itself serious. And I'm glad most critics gave the movie positive reviews knowing the intention of the movie was going for
No matter how good or bad his movie is, it is always interesting. I feel like he's this/ last generation's John Carpenter- rarely a bad movie, often they achieve a cult quality to them.
I was pleasantly surprised by this film as well. My first thought about the Child's Play reboot was, "Man, if only they took this premise and let it cook a bit longer and get more creative with it then you would have something unique and interesting." M3gan is exactly that. I also noticed the tonal issues you brought up. It felt like they shifted their ideas about what direction they should go a few times, I cannot exactly point this out without spoilers though. :( All in all it is a good time.
M3gan is obviously the third movie in the Megan Cinematic Universe which includes Megan Is Missing (2011) and Megan Leavey (2017). There was also a Netflix spin off series called Harry and Meghan released last year. Keep up Jeremy.
Saw it today. Pretty packed for a matinee. I think the movie worked well because Megan as a character worked and the pacing was great. Some surprising scenes like when they pitch Megan and Katy opens up about her feelings. I didn't expect that.
Saw it last night...was actually really good! Good mix of horror and humor. Highly entertaining. I suggest you check it out... Also they plan on releasing an R cut of this as well.
I went and saw it last night. I felt very similar to your review. With the exception of some plot contrivances and the smartest people in the world having zero common sense. It was a lot of fun. They also managed to homage the two greatest sci fi films of all time. The Terminator and Aliens. Bruce at the end reminded me of the Power Loader from Aliens
It was originally rated R and when it goes to streaming the intent is to have the R rated version available. But apparently it tested better as the PG-13 cut.
I saw this last night in a packed theater and I am in love with this movie. Everything was executed so well and the theater literally applauded once the credits rolled. People were laughing, jumping, screaming, it was incredible.
I never comment on these videos but this guy does good reviews that I have been watching them for years. Watched this film with about 20 friends last night for our friend Megan’s birthday and it was a hilarious time as we “took over” the movie theater but his review is spot on. Definitely recommend this film.
Saw the trailer a couple weeks ago and got to the part where she dog runs at somebody and immediatly burst out laughing. Thats when I knew I would have to watch it at some point. I like serious horror, but its increasingly difficult to pull off convincingly imo. When they go for a half measure, not full cheeseball shlock, but a self aware movie that can make me laugh out loud at the absurdity one minute and groan at something grotesque the next, I love that.
Doesn't seem like something I need to see in a theater, but I'm glad to hear it's better than expected, and maybe has some actual thought behind it. Trailers were definitely giving more of a "guilty pleasure/watch while you do boring tasks" kind of vibe.
I saw this film yesterday night with a moderate audience. Everyone enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. First film of 2023 and I can't say I came out disappointed. And to think I had no interested in the film until I saw the second trailer back in 2022.
I went to see it January 8th and I saw it again. Then I seen it 5 times and I absolutely love this movie. ❤ ❤This is a movie that is so more damn good, you have to love the character herself for being, a bit scary, funny and can touch your heart (to make you cry). Unlike most horror icons, M3gan is the perfect example of balancing her personality and the movie (and never tries too hard to be over the top like Chucky and Freddy Krueger or being underrated like Candyman). And the fact that this is a PG 13 which is rare for a killer doll film (normally they would be rated R), but M3gan breaks this tradition and it feel more ground breaking for the horror/sci fi film. It's not all about drugs, sex, gore or vulgar language that most horror flick shouldn't be, it's about balancing the story that makes it work. This mostly was enjoyable to say the least, it was more of a thriller. I just love the character M3gan to bits (hope it's not too late to make her feel good in the sequel to give her a better protocol and to fix an exploding circuit). It's not a scary movie, but M3gan was a cinnamon roll who carried the film until the very end.
Would love to hear your thoughts on Andor. I had felt burned by the garbage that was BoBF and Obi Wan, but Andor might be overall the best Star Wars thing since Disney purchased it
I'll give them a pass on using a 3 in M3GAN because it's actually a part of her full name as a android. I like your point about wanting to see a sequel for this series because about halfway through the movie I was wondering what a sequel could be like. Perhaps another kids story where they keep going along with the bad stuff M3GAN does. Or see someone later in life who grew up with the doll and how it had affected their lives. Would be very interesting.
I searched for "M3gan." 'Cause I knew that's what the title was. Trailer came right up in UA-cam. Liked your review. The dangers of making emotional connections with technology. A definite growing problem.
I wasn't dying to see this movie or anything but I was intrigued enough to check it out tonight after hearing enough hype about it over the last few weeks...I gotta say, this movie was so much better than it really had any right being. Nobody in their right mind could expect this to be as smart and funny as it is, idk what I was expecting really but it definitely surpassed any expectations I did have. It's more like a creepy thriller than straight up horror flick. I'd give it a 7.6/10 overall. I thoroughly enjoyed this flick. 👍
So you're saying a film that goes into strong storytelling as the root of the film will be a well-received movie? Huh, those films (especially in the horror genre) where story is first and foremost at the heart of the film, is so rare today.
From an entertainment point of view (rare now a day) makes sense to focus on the story, few things haven't been seen before in an horror movie, the remake of The Ring was one of those rare gems as well early 2000's.
@@UnboxingAlyss What I told my brother, maybe more on the fact that virtually nothing but horror movies have been coming out since covid, that horror movies have actually improved since covid. None of them being made since then, which I saw, focus on just the old trope of guy goes out and kills everybody with no story. I mean that was the MO for Halloween big time, and I didn't see the last one, but the prior one actually had a worthy story. It maybe wasn't all that appealing to the majority of the audience, and maybe I wasn't all that crazy about it either, but I DEFINITELY liked that at least they tried to develop a story and it wasn't along the usual Halloween lines of basically no story.
Overall I liked it. Not bad for a January release. But this movie could have benefited so much if they pushed for a R rating and allowed it to be really dark. “Black Phone” and “Smile” even validated that your non-franchise horror movies can be very profitable with an R rating.
There's a rumor that they will release an R rated version when it comes to streaming, so you can see both versions. I'm guessing the pg13 cut tested better for a January release.
@@ergonyte7000 They went PG-13 to get teenagers in seats, but I think the higher rating would make it better. I dont subscribe to streaming services, but I'll keep an eye out.
I think the sequel will be called “M3gan 2.0” I just saw this tonight at an employee screening at the theater I work at. It’s definitely not the scare fest some people might think it is. Actually, I found myself laughing more than I thought i would. Especially with the use of “Titanium” by Sia
My theater burst out laughing when M3gan sang "Titanium" and I guess it was meant to be funny and extremely silly purposely so I didn't mind that at all
I just saw it. WTF??? This movie was garbage! What killed it for me is the unrealistic human behavior (a doormat auntie & a spoiled little brat) and why tf was everyone calling a highly advanced android "a toy" when this thing is worth millions that could replace you in pretty much everything??
I enjoyed the movie thought it was unique In it's story telling and a great homage and respect to child's play.. m3gan definitely steals the show here.her on screen presentation was always unpredictable the way she just stares looks menacing yet cute.. however. Just wish the movie was a bit longer you can tell some scenes were meant to be longer. Overall good movie
Finally got around to watching this film because they put it on Peacock and I had a really good time with it. Unintentionally watched the unrated cut and didn't realize until (SPOILER) Megan ripped the kid's ear off onscreen lol. I'm glad I watched Jeremy and Chris Stuckman's reviews because I would not have watched it otherwise.

Never heard of the movie, so I didn't search for it. I'm a subscriber to your channel and will watch almost anything right now that's not related to current events... and now M3gan has made my list.
This is one of your best reviews. You really delve into the psychology of the movie. Thank you for that. You convinced me to go see this movie. Great Job!!!
Megan reminds me of T-elos from Xenosaga III. She is cold, distant, and deep down, she can't help but enjoy wreaking havoc.
Man I haven't thought of those games in a WHILE.
But yeah I see your point.
The scene where Megan asked Katie of a memory of her mother really caught me off guard.
Why do you need to spoil it???
I didn’t 😉
@@micahbell7840 how is it a spoiler?
@@micahbell7840 do you know what the memory is? Do you know why Megan asked Katie? No? Then stop whining.

I didn't search for either M3gan or the other... I just enjoy watching your reviews, so you are always on my recommended list. :)
It definitely was meant to be R rated. The director came out and admitted it. He also tried to tell fans that the PG13 cut was scarier than the original R rated cut 🤭🤭🤭
Which is entirely possible. Seeing gore on screen is not scary.
@@immortalslayer90
I'd put the truck scene from The Hitcher (NOT the remake) forward as an example. Lots of implied gore, but none shown.
I mean, Sam Raimi does horror/comedy with heart all the time.
It's about time someone else stepped into that ring.
Great point. Camp is needed sometimes
except he had the absolute gem of talent in the form of Bruce Campbell.
I don't watch horrors that much but Drag Me To Hell was the last PG-13 horror I watched before this movie and had such a good time with it. I hope Raimi does go back to directing another legitimate horror at some point
Bodies bodies bodies was more whodunit than horror but it was definitely a good comedy /mystery mix
@@thisissupposedtobeanonymous it's usually the eyes
For short the makers of the movie forgot that actress is the mom's sister
that's what I thought. She was a little to nonchalant about her sister dying

It was cut down from rated r to pg-13
Thanks for the review Jermey! Happy to be here for the first review of 2023 and it not be dogsh*t!
Wait, a JANUARY horror movie review from Jeremy at the beginning of the year that ISN'T Dogshxt?!?!😱😱😱😱 i am SHOCKED!!
Hey Jeremy. Long time viewer and just subscribed. I like your reviews because they are wholesome, honest and funny. I get a really good idea if I will like the movie or not and that's impressive given how fickle I am
Given that I actually saw M3gan Monday night and once again felt exactly the way you did. Not much enthusiasm for a PG13 January horror movie, but walked away cry laughing at how much fun I had seeing this movie.
It does have its flaws but the elevated theme and overwhelming personality of M3gan outweighed it. Hope they at least do a sequel. Also would love to see the R rated directory cut/extended version
Keep up the good work!

Omg you're totally right.
Well there is an open position for CEO 😂
There is always that rival organization that had an insider stealing data in their company.

5 stars it’s a must watch.
It was rated R originally. They cut it down to PG-13. I'll be looking for the unrated version when it comes out.

James Wan is really doing a good job with these campy horror films!
First Malignant, now M3GAN
I love campy horror movies. In a world where basically everything seems serious now, I'm glad there's still horror movies like this that's basically self aware, absurd and doesn't take itself serious. And I'm glad most critics gave the movie positive reviews knowing the intention of the movie was going for
Malignant was a blast to watch in the theater
He's really good at those kinds of movies, I've always enjoyed his work.
The definitely found their stride with these last 2. I hope they keep this up!
All in all it is a good time.

no, it's just campy
Megan stole my dance moves, 😂 we need confirmation 😂 fun review as always ❤️
M3gan is obviously the third movie in the Megan Cinematic Universe which includes Megan Is Missing (2011) and Megan Leavey (2017). There was also a Netflix spin off series called Harry and Meghan released last year. Keep up Jeremy.
We might find ourselves the cinematic universe ends with a Megan Fox biopic movie starring Megan Fox herself 😂
lmao
Saw it today. Pretty packed for a matinee. I think the movie worked well because Megan as a character worked and the pacing was great. Some surprising scenes like when they pitch Megan and Katy opens up about her feelings. I didn't expect that.
Same! Got me teary for a bit.
Saw it last night...was actually really good! Good mix of horror and humor. Highly entertaining. I suggest you check it out...
Also they plan on releasing an R cut of this as well.
I did enjoy it, but I did think that an R rating would've helped it a bit. I would love to see that cut.
They should release a R rated version on the first weekend in February!
What a great movie, great pace, heart warming and well filmed, totally enjoyed this movie 9/10 for me
I am 100% with you. Liked this movie a lot more than I thought I would.

I never comment on these videos but this guy does good reviews that I have been watching them for years. Watched this film with about 20 friends last night for our friend Megan’s birthday and it was a hilarious time as we “took over” the movie theater but his review is spot on. Definitely recommend this film.

No Jeremy I did not search for this. The algorithm just knows that I like your videos. Keep up the great work bro.

I've only seen the trailers, but I can't take it seriously with the robot just dancing menacingly lmao
Seeing M3GAN do the dance made me feel simultaneously terrified and like I was about to die of laughter. 4/5 stars.

Would love to hear your thoughts on Andor. I had felt burned by the garbage that was BoBF and Obi Wan, but Andor might be overall the best Star Wars thing since Disney purchased it
Hell naw
Andor sux.
I really didn't like this movie. The message felt super obvious, and it wasn't really scary.
This movie was damn...good :) Megan is a new horror movie icon.

Chucky and Annabelle, what are you doing, crying on the floor?
I wasn't dying to see this movie or anything but I was intrigued enough to check it out tonight after hearing enough hype about it over the last few weeks...I gotta say, this movie was so much better than it really had any right being. Nobody in their right mind could expect this to be as smart and funny as it is, idk what I was expecting really but it definitely surpassed any expectations I did have.
It's more like a creepy thriller than straight up horror flick. I'd give it a 7.6/10 overall. I thoroughly enjoyed this flick. 👍
I personally loved it. it could have gone a bit deeper but still a great idea. the songs m3gan sings topped it for me.
There have been quite a few of those. There were a ton last year alone.
I can't confirm or deny there is an R rated cut of M3GAN being readied for streaming.
Horror is DOMINATING right now
Horror is most of the times a safe bet, cheap to make and popular with the younglings that make most of the moviegoing audience.
Is it?
Very very entertaining! And I want to see uncut version
Yo bro you still at it, dope, i remember watching your channel in highschool im almost 30 now
Overall I liked it. Not bad for a January release. But this movie could have benefited so much if they pushed for a R rating and allowed it to be really dark.
“Black Phone” and “Smile” even validated that your non-franchise horror movies can be very profitable with an R rating.
There were quite a few R-rated horror movies last year that did very well.

My theater burst out laughing when M3gan sang "Titanium" and I guess it was meant to be funny and extremely silly purposely so I didn't mind that at all
One of the best scenes imo. Whole theater busted out laughing at that and a few other moments. Very funny I liked it a lot
I just saw it. WTF??? This movie was garbage! What killed it for me is the unrealistic human behavior (a doormat auntie & a spoiled little brat) and why tf was everyone calling a highly advanced android "a toy" when this thing is worth millions that could replace you in pretty much everything??

Saw this movie today. I really liked it especially because it had a good morality tale at its core.
