It was filmed to be (R)
The kills are bloodier and there's more ADULT language.
When the dance went viral, it blew up, especially with younger audiences. So a last minute re-edit was done for a (PG-13) rating.
The (R) will be available streaming or it may even get a limited theatrical release.

@@jerms6642 lmao imagine having a different opinion, this movie has objectively the same stupid main characters that every “horror” movie has if you can even call this horror. Did you actually ever get scared or care about anyone at all in the film other than the little girl, who mind you is always being protected by Megan. So the film would have been so much better if they pulled more into what they were going for but they didn’t, the main character was terrible, you can’t deny she is just stupid, for someone who created this insane AI that is going to “change the world” she has zero common sense. No fail safe, makes terrible decisions to further the plot. It’s just bad writing. I watched Puss and Boots last night and WOW what a difference in quality of writing and directing. Every scene had meaning and purpose with wonderfully written characters. If you want to see a real movie, watch the new puss and boots and I’m not being sarcastic. It literally is GOLD. I hope we can at least agree on this point.

You will be saying to yourself that this is a massive waste of your time after 40 min of sitting down watching it. It is boring, slow, terrible character choices and dialogue and literally Megan does something interesting prob 3 times in the movie and it’s at the end. And by that time your already turned your brain off from all the idiotic decisions made by the main character it feels like the writers either tried making a stupid character or they are just stupid themselves. "oh shit this robot is actually doing a better job then maybe and is clearly more emotionally invested in nurturing this kid." It makes Megan to human basically and thus loses the message that machines can only do so much in raising a kid. Instead it just comes down to "yeah this robot is fucking murderous for no reason, we gotta get rid of it."

Hey Jeremy. Long time viewer and just subscribed. I like your reviews because they are wholesome, honest and funny. I get a really good idea if I will like the movie or not and that's impressive given how fickle I am
Given that I actually saw M3gan Monday night and once again felt exactly the way you did. Not much enthusiasm for a PG13 January horror movie, but walked away cry laughing at how much fun I had seeing this movie.
It does have its flaws but the elevated theme and overwhelming personality of M3gan outweighed it. Hope they at least do a sequel. Also would love to see the R rated directory cut/extended version
    Keep up the good work!

Saw it last night and overall enjoyed it. The comedy beats were actually really well done, the creepiness was very well done - when she rises out of the shadows, the slight modulation changes in her voice when she is being menacing, and the close ups on her eyes as she’s ALWAYS watching everything with a cold, calculating, alien intelligence.
The emotional moments actually caught me off guard. Like, I legitimately started rooting for M3gan.
    Mild spoiler.
All in all, it was a fun time and I wish it had a better ending; M3gan deserved to win. Funnily enough, the aunt “winning” was actually kind of losing. She’s going to lose her job, face some kind of legal issues, and she’s definitely going to lose Katie.

I went to see it January 8th and I saw it again. Then I seen it 5 times and I absolutely love this movie. ❤ ❤This is a movie that is so more damn good, you have to love the character herself for being, a bit scary, funny and can touch your heart (to make you cry). Unlike most horror icons, M3gan is the perfect example of balancing her personality and the movie (and never tries too hard to be over the top like Chucky and Freddy Krueger or being underrated like Candyman). And the fact that this is a PG 13 which is rare for a killer doll film (normally they would be rated R), but M3gan breaks this tradition and it feel more ground breaking for the horror/sci fi film. It's not all about drugs, sex, gore or vulgar language that most horror flick shouldn't be, it's about balancing the story that makes it work. This mostly was enjoyable to say the least, it was more of a thriller. I just love the character M3gan to bits (hope it's not too late to make her feel good in the sequel to give her a better protocol and to fix an exploding circuit). It's not a scary movie, but M3gan was a cinnamon roll who carried the film until the very end.
