The way Ivy plays Marilyn as an actress is spot on. However, Karen's voice matches Marilyn better. Go listen to Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend. Marilyn Monroe's voice wasn't all that powerful, and Ivy tends to belt in every song.
This song was obviously written for Karen! Her voice, her different textures and tones Made the song. The writters are truly spectacular. The instrumentation is absolutely extraordinary and complents Katherines voice. I see her making it big time from this. The season finale solidified her star power. Her voice is phenomenal and people are just seeing the peak of her career. Big things to come, I cant wait! Thank you fir posting all these tracks!

Very inspirational song. it has a lot of meaning to it, how throughout life there will always be people who will never appreciate who you truly are and they will always want to change you to have you be what they want. I think that this song tells that kind of person and how you need to be yourself and not want to change for anyone's sake.
While being able to be powerful in the right proportion... Her emotion in this song was spot on. She showed restraint when it was time for that and then let us have it at the end... Don't forget me, the way she sung this will def not be forgotten!!

Anyway, to me one of the interesting things about Smash is how at various times I was rooting for Karen and at others I was rooting for Ivy. Deeply flawed show overall, but I'm hooked!

I know that when they started making the show they did get the rights to a Broadway show for 'Smash' itself. There has been some talk about making Bombshell a musical but no one has worked one it. They are too busy with getting season 2 up and running. I would be fine if they wanted to do both. :P

I often cry during songs in musicals. This was a song that had my sobbing by the time she got to "...yet they paid 50 cents for my soul..." What an amazing song. I loved all the songs in BOMBSHELL. Now...somebody needs to really do a play of that. Of course, Katherine or Megan would have to play the lead. Beautiful!! Thank you for posting it.
