    We go to a local U-Pick blueberry farm and I never thought about canning pie filling. We eat a lot of other things blueberry so I feel a little dumb not thinking of this. Oh, well, thanks for jogging my brain. I'm definitely trying this next year when we go.

    That looks really good Amanda.
    Once you incorporated the blueberries did you cook it any longer or once they were in it was ready for the jars?
    Thanks.

      I cooked it just a few minutes longer while my lids heated up. The directions I used did not say it was necessary. :) Thanks for watching Lottie!

    Is it safe to assume you used 7 quarts blueberries? Never made pie filling before. Thank you!

    I have never heard of Ultra Gel. It's nice to know there's another option besides Clear Jell and Corn Starch.

      Tapioca starch and arrowroot starch work really well also, especially if you have to avoid corn!

    I was going to take my grandchildren blueberry picking but the u-pick was 40 cents more a pound than at my local fruit market, that’s crazy!

    • @HearthandDome
      @HearthandDome  5 років тому

      Wow!! I've never heard anyone say that before... Horrible!

    • @cindybonem494

      Freedom Acres: I called a few days ago to check and see if they were open yet and how much they were a pound, she said $2.90 a pound, five pounds is $14.50, so I checked the fruit market they are 11.99 for five pounds. $2.51 cheaper and they are already picked. I thought I heard her wrong, so I called again today and she gave me the same price. Like you said, horrible.

    • @HearthandDome
      @HearthandDome  6 років тому

      I've not been able to find it locally.. so I order it on Amazon.. :( I'd much prefer to support my local economy but I've never found it in our local canning section.

      There are 4 cups in a quart. 4x6=24 ;)

    I can't find the gel you have there. Is there an alternative I can use? ty

    • @HearthandDome
      @HearthandDome  6 років тому

      No. There is no alternative. Corn starch and flour are NOT safe in canning. Ultra Gel is available online. I've never been able to find it in a local store. I usually order through amazon.
