if I remember correctly Dallas said in an interview he started martial arts and was into it bc of watching avatar so its funny how it went full circle and now he's acting in the live action lol
There has to be a library episode because it’s a turning point with apps being taken and toph struggling with holding it up It’s a pivotal moment in the season
Yes but why was Wan Shi Tong placed here for any reason other than "We're gonna skip that arc next season / we might not get a next season so lets throw in some fan service"
You are right! The show runners would never leave a very important plot point out! Loved how Aang was so eager to learn waterbending this season so he could become a fully realized Avatar!
@@spencerrr9878That was also my thought pattern. Also I don’t explicitly remember but I don’t think Zhao sets up going to the library about the moon spirit. I think he acquired the info. in a more vague way.
One of the scariest things about Azula at first in the animated version is her control, this seems absent in this adaptation. The first scene we get of her apart from the sadistic smile in the flashback of Zuko getting burned and her getting sent out by Ozi at the end of season 1 is her practicing lightning bending on her boat. We see a glimmer of her rage when she has 1 hair out of place upon completing the exercise, but she has lid on it. She acts competently and with absolute confidence, is cold, cruel, manipulative and controlling of everyone around her until things start happening that undermine that confidence and we see the cracks in her iron control after which things unravel fast, but very much foreshadowed even from the first scene and the single errant hair. The live action's version is far less scary and threatening because she is not as competent, confident, and controlled which makes her feel more predictable. You never quite knew what Azula would do next in the animation. Her recruiting Ty lee in the animation does a lot of characterization work for her. She is shown to, not just be willing to, but to practically enjoy, threatening the lives and livelihoods of her "friend"'s co-workers whilst putting up a facade of friendliness to her face in order to pressure Ty Lee into joining her. I'm not getting effective underhanded, amoral, gaslighting manipulator from the live action portrayal to nearly the same degree.
Whether you enjoy the way the story is going or not( I personally have been enjoying this adaptation) you can’t deny the production value is world class
This episode was all over the place but damn was the Face stealer spirit actually really well done. Stuff like that the live action does really good expanding on the good parts of the cartoon
16:03 oh wow, good idea Suraj. It’s just covering their bases just in case the Airbender Avatar had died, either that he died in the original genocide, or he died of old age.
I think the head canon is that they became more aggressive because Hama had escaped and she was from the south so they were trying to eradicate bloodbending. It kinda doesn't make sense tho cuz the gap between Hama's escape and Kaya's death is at least 35+ years
Something I didn't realise until they mentioned Kuruk but it made me think of the fact that 2 generations of water benders had to deal with the spirit world in a full on way, Korra succeeding instead in the end
They pretty much changed Koh's powers. To my understanding, in the cartoon, if you show emotion in front of Koh, he can steal your face. Rather simple. But in here, the live action, it seems that Koh can manifest his preys' deepest fears and despairs, then prey on them while they are at their emotionally lowest point. I think that's really cool. Much more spiritualistic kind of power.
The reuniting of Gyatso and Aang was an incredible suprise and got me in the feels immediatly best part of this episode love the inclusion of the Spirit of Knowledge too awesome reaction guys😊
This ep was the one for me where they established this is its own project, i forget who said it but theyre bringing in beats from Korra lol i can appreciate knowing the main plot but not knowing how they're going to get there. I didnt finish the show yet, but they're doing a good job at making this for both fans and first time viewers
This show's two major complaints seem to be too many original episodes smashed together and no Aang waterbending. I believe there is a correlation between them. I think the creators purposefully took episodes that mainly pertained to Aang learning about the spirit world and the Avatar state and mashed them together in this first season to create a different Book 1. Then they are going to make season two about learning bending from his friends and firebending with Zuko and against the Fire Lord in season three. This will keep the people who have seen the original series guessing what is going to happen next (at least in some ways). Just a thought.
I would hope and assume the season 1 Azula is being set up to be original Book 2 & 3 Azula. It feels like the most closely she was to that just so happens to be the flicker of blue flames.
Azula is in competition with Zuko even though she is significanly better than him because he was the heir to the throne. So it feels natural she is threaten by him. They even say is in episode 3
THANKS for this, especially the live-action exhibition in the video's front!!!! So I can enjoy this experience I'm just pretending that you're slowly being won over :)
I took my time watching the episodes so by the time I got to 5, I had been able to separate the two shows mostly and enjoy the ambitiousness of what they were doing. This was my favorite simply because of the Aang and Gyatso scene.
LMFAO ya know, Spidey is a fucking-HILARIOUS, national treasure and must be protected at all costs 🤣 This man can change my entire MOOD lol. All I have to do is hit the blunt a couple times and turn on The Normies, and within 15 minutes I'm a brand new person 😂 "You so sad lil biiitch, wassup?" is quite possibly the funniest sentence I've heard this entire MONTH 😆
Interesting that you guys had so much difficulty with the episode bc I havent seen the show in years and I watched with a bunch of ppl who’ve never seen the cartoon and this was one of our favorite episodes
Personally I enjoy the "prodigy Azula" iteration more because she has everything over Zuko, intelligence, battle-sense, strength, power, the love of her father, she has it all, but in her eyes Zuko has something that she was never able to grasp, the unrequited love of her mother. Though she's through and through the better heir to the throne, her mother still decided to dote on Zuko more and I feel like subconsciously this made Azula feel like she wasn't enough, like she was less than, even though she realistically has it all. She can act like she's leaps and bounds above others, because she really is, but the insecurity derived from her mother issues will always leave her feeling insignificant, like an an attractive, charasmatic, billionare that still can't find happiness
I both love and hate the scene with Koh. On the one hand Koh is very well animated and very accurate to how he looked in the animated series. Seriously, huge props to the artists who worked on the effect. But on the other hand, my god the squishy and creepy sound effects combined with how he looks when he changes faces is so disturbing. When Aang's running away I'm like, yeah, get out of here! I'm not saying the scene is bad BTW, it's disturbing but like in a good way, so it's doing its job well.
A change i didn't like is Sokkas vision in the spirit world. In the show Sokka was skilled, and his dad really believed in him and trusted his skills, even told him he knew he'd keep the village safe. So I didn't like it seeming like Hakoda think Sokka isn't capable and wouldn't be a good leader.
Love what they're doing new - emphasizing Aang's relationship with Gyatso throughout (introducing him in the 'prologue' as it were, the memory of him being what pulled Aang out of the first Avatar State, and now meeting him in the Spirit World) and the new POV cuts to the Fire Nation, especially directly seeing the pressure that warps Azula into a monster and Ozai's characterization. Finding that more interesting than Kataang stuff (which, regardless, would be really weird to watch with flesh-and-blood actors at their age, IMO) or essentially introducing Azula and Ozai as characters in S2 and S3 respectively. But this time around the 'cram pieces from a lot of different episodes together' effort felt a lot more forced and worked a lot less well than the Omashu arc, IMHO. I wonder if they weren't sure whether they wanted to stuff in the "make no expressions" rule in this version or not, so they had Aang's actor play the scene that way just in case, but then decided against making it part of the plot. And that Volume / Green Screen forest background was distractingly bad. That clip of Zuko's actor at the beginning was awesome -- his fight in episode 3 has been one of the highlights of the show, and it makes perfect sense now that I've seen that. Overall, this is a perfectly decent show, I just cannot see anything that would lead me to recommend it to anyone over the original.
@@creativeartivity It's not all encompassing. That's why I said "some". Some have valid criticisms. I've had great convos with some of them and I get what they talk about. But some come around with invalid criticisms too... like someone saying "There's no subtlety at all in the series" or "Everyone that has sense hates this" or "All the writing is horrible" you know, all encompassing blanket statements. Those that make NO sense. Nothing is absolute, nothing is everything or everyone. Those that call that "critiques" don't know the definition of the term.
Can you please reupload/open access to 1x13 "Blue Spirit" episode of Avatar: Last Airbender ? Only this one missed in playlist (I talk about animation series only here)
This was an amazing episode and maybe I'm confident in saying that because I'm not in any way making corelation to the original. I'm not even thinking of the original. I'm enjoying THIS. I'm focusing on THIS story with THESE characters and I'm not even spending time assuming I know what is going to happen next. But that's just ME.
As you should. Any material is best enjoyed when assessed on its own merit rather than constantly being compared with some other rendition. The M. Knight version was annoying because it was objectively bad, not just because it didn't stick with the original plot. This version is cool.
@MoneyGist agreed. If the acting or the script was bad, I'd have problems with it. But because they are meeting someone out of order?? I mean, it's fine to bring it up- but as an interesting topic, not as a criticism. Frankly, some things in the original toon were poorly ordered- like the prison break. I welcome seeing a new vision, as you would expect going into a shorter live action series.
Ok, well now it's Navi's turn. Let go of the comparisons and you'll be able to stop expecting to see scenes abd get upset when you don't. It's quite easy to do. You are not going to get what you want when you want it. Bringing in Azula this early is fine, we learn family dynamics. I'm gonna have to agree with Rana, as she appears to be the only one that can compartmentalize between animated and live action. I'm also watching 3 other reaction channels who seem to be able to do it as well.
Thank God the normies got their channel back and their back in full affect now we gotta talk about Akira toriama dying I'm surprised why it's taking y'all so long to talk about it
While I do think this is definitely the weakest episode of the show, rewatching it some times and watching reactions to it, I begin to understand more what they tried to do with it. It's like they picked themes for their episodes, and drew from events in the og show to fit these themes: like episode 3 about the price of freedom, and it pulled Jet, Sai, and Omashu in there, because all of these plotlines are ultimately about what is given up in order to stay free. Episode 4 was about making choices, and the main plots in it were Bumi, Zuko, and Iroh making and living with their choices. This episode wasn't so abstract, it was 'the spirit world' episode of this adaptation and so they mashed in everything they could from the spirit world. I hope sincerely Wan Shi Tong was just a little cameo and we'll get more from him in the future, that way it will be a 'oh we saw that guy briefly in S1!' moment for new viewers, and introducing the Fog of Lost Souls is an okay choice, I don't hate it. I will say they fumbled Koh HARD. Like, Koh was one of the most TERRIFYING things from the OG, and here he was kinda just... a creepy spirit guy with a centipede body who snatches up people from the fog and eats their faces. Really, the EASIEST fix for that would have been to have Wan Shi Tong tell him the 'don't show emotions' think about Koh, his terror is immediately restored, and Wan Shi Tong shared knowledge, which when they hit the library in S2 could be a cool hook for 'hey you helped us before!' 'yes but the next guy I helped wanted to use my knowledge to wipe out all waterbenders so I'm not doing that anymore and in fact I will never help you people again!'. Did they did a great job with this episode? Nope. But I think I know what they TRIED to do and it simply didn't work out. Yeah, definitely the weakest episode for me.
People wanted more on the relationship with Ozai, and interactions between Azula and Ozai. And, then they complain about Azula not getting her Darth Vader immediately intimidating introduction. That can still be done. She propped up Zhao deceitfully. She openly defied her father because she figured out what he wanted of her. It was something that Zuko failed to do, and it brought the hint of a smile to Ozai's face. She is becoming the ruthless, evil, intelligent and powerful flaming sword for Ozai. I look forward to season two.
My two big gripes with this episode is Wan Shi Tong is completely unnecessary and the inclusion of Koh makes Heybai unnecessary. All WST did was tell them to follow the path and not stray from it. They could have just assumed that. They only included all three because they thought they would get flack if they excluded one of them.
they've gotta do the library, they've already covered half of s2's episodes in season 1 so I think they're going to have to use all the major story beats (Aang finding Toph, the library/appa getting stolen, the journey to ba sing se, ba sing sse, finding appa, and the finale) otherwise there won't be any content
Nah, they're gonna do it. It will be modified, but they'll do it. The library is a key set up for future important plots. Team Avatar going to Ba Sing Se and Day of Black Sun are set up by the events of the library. If they skip anything, it might be Appa's Lost Days.
I really hope they slow down the pacing. Book 2 will most certainly be bad if its only 8 episodes. It needs to be at least 10, ideally 12-13+. Like there is so much lore and stories to tell.
I swear, after episode 1 I was so sure they were gonna split book 1 into two seasons, since they had added so much cool stuff. But no, they're just gonna mention shit, gloss over shit, and remix things like there's no tomorrow. I love what they added, but with each episode, I just kept dreading every omission. When I saw Wan Shi Tong here my heart sank, I immediately though "They're not doing the library, fuck!", and the next episode all but confirmed it when Sozin made no mention of the comet. I'm still glad this series exists because I really appreciate how well they've adapted the Fire Nation characters, but fuck me if they didn't fail in the same ways the movie did, rushing things and ignoring so much.
Stop doom posting. The creators said they will take fan critics to heart and they have a better timeline for how to pace the rest of the story. Tons of stuff in season 2 and 3 can be cut and still work. Lastly why is everyone saying they will skip the libary...they already made the fox cgi their not gonna wanna waste it...AND DID PEOPLE FORGET, the owl spirt animal was IN THE SPIRIT WORLD...just like the fox they could excuse it and say he was astrol projecting. The physical body can be in the real world in the libary. Though i guess your right that they may skip it to stream line things. Lets just wait and see. Seems like it would be fun to see the reaction to someone who watched live action first then cartoon second...like live action one piece fans. Would crack up if they start going...ugh filler episode lets move on with the plot...this wasnt in the story...why is this so etc. lol
I think it's a wording issue. I see it as Channel as in let them take over his body. In the cartoon he was taken over in the way where he transformed into them only on roku's shrine...he did it again when he turned into kyoshi in front of a location where there was a shrine to her. Later in the series he can commune with them on the lion turtle a strong spiritual being...He gets more spiritual via the guru and such. I think people are blending later parts to make the show seem trash. Its not great but were all asking for the development of season 3 aang in season 1 when season 1 was great and people now call it weak in hindsight cause how good the series gets...now were calling live action bad cause its not peak from day one. He was able to visit the spirit world in this series and commune with his past elder teacher. I dont think their trying to change it for the worst. It doesnt make much of an issue. He doesnt talk to roku that much in season 1 that it's a killer to the series IMO. Later they can just say he can do it now with concentration. Kyoshi in the books also had trouble communing with past lives so did korra @@Light-Rock97
I’m trying to understand why you guys are upset abt seeing a bunch of spirits in the SPIRIT world 😂😂 and why you think we can’t see them again when season 2 and 3 are already confirmed. I think having too much frame of reference abt the show (and expecting the adaptation to do the same as the cartoon) is ruining your ability to enjoy how the show is re-imaging certain aspects
Disappointed with what they’ve done with Soka, if I could label the character in one word it would be “Pity”. It’s not great… Also, in the cartoon, it wasn’t the monkey that tells Aang about Koh, its Avatar Roku in a reflection of water in the spirit world
Really not a fan of this episode. Seems like the writers decided to throw in anything spirit world related into one ep and it really doesn't work since there's no time to explore each individually. Like the Hei Bai storyline is completely sidelined here which is a big mistake. Only thing I liked was Aang seeing Gyatso again.
I feel the same. It's my least favourite episode for those reasons. I don't like that the others just randomly got pulled out into the spirit world with him, or the forced inclusion of Wan Shi Tong. I expected Hei Bai to be the main focus, but I know using prior knowledge of the animated series is a bit unfair. Maybe they just did it to give Aang an excuse to see Roku without the inclusion of the comet.
At this point I was getting super annoyed, I didn't like the fact events from volume 2 and 3 were being merged with this season. I understand that when you do a retelling of a story you don't want to make it identical for fear of being accused of just copying, but you don't want to deviate from the main story so much that it makes us feel "what did I just watch?" I was wondering why our two guys left for the longest time, this episode showed me exactly why the creators left. The main thing I was yelling at my tv was "Look at Mortal Kombat Annihalation, Netflix, look at what they did in that movie, do you fucking see how that turned out? Don't be like the movie that made the director of the first Mortal Kombat movie release a statement letting everyone know he had nothing to do with the second movie."

Exactly, adding more depth to the more or less one dimensional characters of the anime. I love it. Some can't do otherwise then hate 🤷♂
@@claudegrenier3180 I don't know why people cast off others that disagree as hating. It's like the word criticism doesn't exist anymore lol
George Takei voices Koh the face stealer.
This is not the swamp
Can you please reupload/open access to 1x13 "Blue Spirit" episode of Avatar: Last Airbender ? Only this one missed in playlist (I talk about animation series only here)
Who is the Zuko respecting, praise giving and Azzula dissing Fire Lord?
I don't think they will do the library now either
Ok, well now it's Navi's turn. Let go of the comparisons and you'll be able to stop expecting to see scenes abd get upset when you don't. It's quite easy to do. You are not going to get what you want when you want it. Bringing in Azula this early is fine, we learn family dynamics. I'm gonna have to agree with Rana, as she appears to be the only one that can compartmentalize between animated and live action. I'm also watching 3 other reaction channels who seem to be able to do it as well.
Ozai, Daniel Dae Kim, is a fucking daddy. That is all. ❤ 🔥
Koh was creepy AF........so much creeper in this version, legit made my skin crawl
22:38 LMAO
I liked the episode. Slower
korra is already in fortnite and aang is coming soon xD
Thank God the normies got their channel back and their back in full affect now we gotta talk about Akira toriama dying I'm surprised why it's taking y'all so long to talk about it
azula pretending his father didn't say zuko found the avatar in the previous episode 😒
🤣
still not able to talk why you cut Dragon Prince?
Communication still not quite a thing i would call good
It's so cut
Its ok to say that it wasnt a good episode
How long untill Aang is in Fortnite? Well Korra is in the Battle pass and Aang will arrive in April with his mythics 😂
Did people really want a shot for shot remake of the animated show?
People wanted more on the relationship with Ozai, and interactions between Azula and Ozai. And, then they complain about Azula not getting her Darth Vader immediately intimidating introduction. That can still be done. She propped up Zhao deceitfully. She openly defied her father because she figured out what he wanted of her. It was something that Zuko failed to do, and it brought the hint of a smile to Ozai's face. She is becoming the ruthless, evil, intelligent and powerful flaming sword for Ozai. I look forward to season two.

The Fortnite comment was funny because the new season has Korra :)
I'm just gonna say it, GYATso
Live action feels worse otherthan 1,7,8.Because those follows same story of ATLA animation sometimes exact same dialogues
She was hot😂 hilarious😭
They messed up the spirit world...Wong shi ton casually roaming the spirit world... That Owl never left the Library ffs ...
Can’t believe you guys are still watching this!
react to assassination classroom
I hope I’m wrong but I feel like they won’t do the library because the pacing of it in the cartoon I feel like is too slow for the pacing of this show
they've gotta do the library, they've already covered half of s2's episodes in season 1 so I think they're going to have to use all the major story beats (Aang finding Toph, the library/appa getting stolen, the journey to ba sing se, ba sing sse, finding appa, and the finale) otherwise there won't be any content
@@rickyricardo9710 What? The only thing S2 episodes that they've covered so far are "The Swamp" and the "Cave of Two Lovers".
@@Oneryeone Agreed lol people luv to exaggerate
And here it is, the worst episode. At least Koh and Hei Bai looked cool
Would crack up if they start going...ugh filler episode lets move on with the plot...this wasnt in the story...why is this so etc. lol
though i think spirits use their own bodies unlike humans but who knows how the logic works for live action part.
@@nichescenes "I can only channel the past avatars when I'm in their shrines". These people played so fast and loose with the rules.
It’s not great…
Also, in the cartoon, it wasn’t the monkey that tells Aang about Koh, its Avatar Roku in a reflection of water in the spirit world
Really not a fan of this episode.
They brought wan shi tong to early into the series I hope that doesn’t change his appearance for season 2
If you're yelling at your TV, you got bigger problems then this series buddy...
@@claudegrenier3180 I think you should concentrate on your grammar problems.
@@davidsha81 Sure buttercup, english is just my third language but sure, I'll do better 🙄 and you keep yelling to your TV like a normal person...
