The BBC didn't "lose" any episodes. The BBC purposely taped over, burnt, hacked, crushed and buried episodes. There's a difference between destroying episodes to save space in the archives and "whoopsie!" losing them.
The BBC should NEVER be forgiven for all the destruction of wonderful dramas of the 60s era.
raymond lang well, the people who made the BBC back then no longer are there, but it just seems sketchy for the current BBC employees to minimize what happened.
If I took my car, cut it in two with a bandsaw and sent it off to a landfill, I can't tell my wife I "lost" my car. At least not with a clear conscience.
I'll probably but the DVD, just to remember the story that I watched as a child back then in the 60s.
It would be great to actually try to re-make the lost episodes to perfection to the real script, and the time of the period, with real actors.
It couldn't be any worse than the cover band series version that RTD brought in for the Sunny Delight generation.
Can't watch that anymore..more like a soap and dumbed down nicking ideas off sci-fi films.
I had my head in my hands first few episodes of poor old Christopher Eccleston chewing on a script that seemed to be put together from a tin of alphabetti spaghetti.
missing episodes that need to be animated
Marco polo
the daleks master plan
the highlanders
fury from the deep
the abominable snowmen
come on BBC. . . think of the money, it's what you always do
And evil of the daleks
And the massacre of St Bartholomews eve
The wheel in space
I like how they land and you see Second Doctor run off
3:07 "Do you mind if we ask you a few questions?" - "ofcorse!" *starts asking questions*
I am now even more excited for TPOTD now :)!
Nicholas Payne I want it now
This is wonderfully charming. Well done!
Interesting fact! The BBC buried a lot of film reels, some of which was most likely Dr Who. Assuming the films were not nitrate based, they could potentially still be playable, at the very least some scenes may be ruined and the audio may not be entirely complete but it's something! A similar occurrence happened in America, films buried in the 1950s were later re-discovered in the 90s and many of which were still completely fine.
Sewell 27 Any documentation as to where they were buried?
This was great! Really had me chuckling throughout! Great job guys!
Not lost from the BBC archives, deliberately wiped. There is a distinction.
DW episodes were not lost by the BBC, they were purposely destroyed.
Nigel Fortune Why?
To make room for more tapes.
But... Doctor Who was sold to other countries so like The Web Of Fear and other recovered material recently found there is always hope.
The early ones were, but when the show became popular, they stopped doing that. From then on some tapes were lost, not destroyed.
The original video recordings were wiped up until the early Third Doctor era; what was retained were film copies made for overseas and retained by BBC Enterprises (now BBC Worldwide). Many of these were junked after a few years due to a perception of a lack of interest and problems getting clearances for repeats. Some were saved from fans literally from the skip. This isn't limited to Doctor Who; it's a general thing that happened with BBC shows and also ITV ones.
Wow... I accidentally visited this channel 22 seconds after this video was uploaded. Looks like a really biig coincidence. I like it.
Matas Minelga me too.Wow
Honestly I have to say the fan show is the main thing I watch on this channel
0:02 Count the shadows!
Haha, this is really well done.
Thank you! :)
Did anyone see the 2nd doctor at 1:53 in the circle bit
Now how did he get there?
Doctor Who: The Fan Show According to audio "he wanted to take a stroll" I know my doctor who :)
Me
love this. hope they reconstruct Daleks Master plan next
Plus master plan has some surviving episodes
JB making it a suitable candidate for reconstruction
Ep 2 5 & 10.
JamesTheBrony now if they can just reconstruct the other episodes that would be great
Oh my gosh! I love it! I am totally looking forward to seeing "The Power of the Daleks" in animation. I definitely reckon this is the ultimate solution for many of the missing Doctor Who episodes. Especially those that are most likely lost forever and may never be recovered. Like the William Hartnell 4-parter "The Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve" for example, which I think should definitely be animated as there is no existing footage, no tele-snaps and very few still images taken. Obviously if anymore missing episodes are found someday, then yes that would be totally great.
"would you mind?"
"yes, of course"
this should have been an extra on the dvd set. Can't wait for christmas as I can't have my dvd till then
This video is great! I cannot wait to see this as I am quite familiar with this story through BBC Audio, a telesnap recon, and the book version. This is a truly classic adventure.
I like how it's in black and white
Oooh I've been seeing stuff about this all over the place, but I didn't realize it was the first post-regeneration episode! Cool!
Elizabeth R what ? Aren't you a DW fan ?
That's one of the reasons why is so big
Behold the mercury swamps of Vulcan. *screams of agony heard in the distance* Behold the emotional disease of Spocks dying father.
love this version of the intro theme
Excellent, just got my copy, hopefully this sells well enough to get more missing episodes animated. I'd like to see some rotoscoping techniques used for future releases though, to improve the animations when characters are walking.
This is such an amazing video, well made :D Loved it 😁
Woah ! nice video editing, really liked it :)
Just on a side note; I received my DVD copy of "Lost Sitcoms" recently. It was a little BBC project in which they re-staged 3 sitcom episodes "lost from the BBC archives". (Cough). The 3 sitcoms were "Hancocks Half Hour"; "Steptoe And Son" and "Till Death Us Do Part". The shows where done exactly as they would have been done in the 60s; videotaped in front of a studio audience with the same sort of minimal set. (For this production the sets where most abstract, then minimal). The actors all gave performances in the style of the originals while being themselves. I enjoyed it. Perhaps he BBC might consider doing something similar with Doctor Who? "Marco Polo" in 16:9 and color would be a nice starting point.
Love this series! Keep it up you guys!!!
The ad I got for this was "Let's ask Google what this crack in the ground is."The crack looked exactly like the crack in time.
1:43
some quality acting there
I need to know if Luke and Christel survive!
Well they've not been seen since...
RIP Luke and Christel. :'(
NOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Oh well, No more fan show then...
I can't wait to watch it on DVD when it is released.
I can't wait to see a new Doctor Who episode after 11 months of waiting. I can't wait to see it in Australian cinemas.
Rachel Wyld well....this isn't really new doctor who ...
Great episode. (also a new Pet Shop Boys EP would be great!)
It looks wonderful!
Firstly as the Vulcan ambassador to Earth big props to the trek reference, must ask is it only timelord that I can regenerate or can anyone from the doctors home world regenerate?
Time Lords.
watched part one Saturday night. really not bad, wish they had put more effort into the animation. I could see the second doctor in my mind. they had studied him and the way he moved. looking forward to next week
Brilliant
PLEASE DO PART 2!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember evil of the Daleks because I missed the last episode but then It was repeated several years later and I got to see the end.
"Oh look! Buttons!"
LOL
I hope the North American dvd release is fast, I really enjoyed the audio of this story.
Andrew Gillespie just watch it on BBC America this month. You'll be able to see it for free. Then buy the DVD later
I hope they do The Evil of the Daleks next
MMCVI? Somebody doesn't know their Roman numerals. LOL
2016 = MMXVI, MMCVI = 2106!
Cool. with the animation be making a TV appearance or an iplayer one?
Andrew Taylor in the US and Australia yes
The U.K. no
dam... :(
So excited!☺️
1:52 on the left
Ha 2.
Ok, now GIMMIE "SHADA"
"Gimme Shada please" :P
Camime We have enough Shada. There's the Tom Barker hosted version on vhs and dvd, the animated 8th Doctor retelling and it's extended audio release, Ian Levine's animated reconstruction using a soundalike for Tom Baker and Gareth Roberts novelization.
Doctor Who: The Fan Show lol
Camime there's like 4 different versions of Shada
Jorge Mendez You got your wish. :P
I love DALKS
I miss the round things lol 👍👍😂😂
Sarah Powell they are called roundels which you should know being a DW fan
Yeah I was just saying what they said in the video lol 😂😂👍👍☺☺
ahhhggg destroyed not lost. lol
at 1:51 you can see the second doctor if you look carefully
At last some proper DrWho not that Classmates tripe..
Now all we need is evil of the daleks and we're golden
CANT WAIT
BBC didn't keep old episodes of any shows, even the successful ones. No channel did at the time.
I want SHADA! And MARCO POLO! Too please
Shaggy Rogers Shada has like 4 different versions
Went last night to see the "Special Event " premier in Jacksonville Florida and was excited at first. Watched prep videos and never saw any notification of this event until someone said they saw the trailer at movies. Called theater after Google gave location and time. Not one reference to movies length (2 hr 45 min) started at 7:00. brought 10 year old granddaughter who is total whovian and who managed to stay awake (school night) for the first two hours, but finally lost to the boredom. Much better chopped into smaller episodes in my opinion. But the biggest problem was that the event was not promoted in social media, time element was not conducive to the younger fans, only counted 8 attendees at the venue ( of which were our party, so the event planner totally bombed).and lastly - tickets were $16.00. We left without seeing the last 45 minutes. But hey, we paid our money, so why should they care. Not a good introduction to Classic Who for the younger Whovians.
Leather recliners in theater were nice, but sound was obnoxiously loud. I have shown my granddaughter as many old classic Who as I can find between UA-cam and dailymotion on my Samsung phone. I watched as a teen on PBS channel.
Callie Sanderford well you can get really edit it down, fans of the show would go mental. The entire point was to get it as closely possible to how it was shown back in 1966
I absolutely was not knocking the movie, only that of we had known it was going to be that long, we would have planned a nap after school. Only found out about it the night before and with all the school and after-school activities ( my little is a teacher of tomorrow as well as team leader of school . patrol ) and the Super Moon rising, we were well and truly frazzled. Am buying the DVD for Christmas as planned anyway. It was just bad timing all around.
Callie Sanderford yeah well that's the BBC for you!!! Terrible at organising everything. I remember trying to go see the 50th anniversary in cinemas, and I didn't know where it was being shown. I live in the UK and you'd think the most popular show would get more advertising but nope!
creamy goodness, had the same problem watching the classic who. PBS was the only way to see it and it was on late, here in the states. I wonder sometimes if BBC is trying to shut The Doctor down again.
PART 2 PART 2 PART 2 PLEASSSSSSEEEEEEEE
Im just gonna wait for the colour version on bluray.
I would do, but it's a Doctor Who *DVD* collection so...
TheRecreator I can easily sit the bluray collection NEXT to the DVD collection. I mean, wouldn't any Doctor Who fan want to collect a classic episode in HD? I own Spearhead and The Movie (despite its upscale)
kylephantom4 it looks terrible on the shelf. When the bbc logo was changed on the side of the dvd, they had to start putting reversible covers on the dvd's, just so they wouldn't look weird on the shelf.
Creamy Goodness its not that bad. I have alot of dvds with a mix of the new logo and old one. Your just nitpicking
kylephantom4 maybe so, but it's nice to have a huge row of dr who dvd's that all look the same. Trust me, if there's one set of fans that are OCD about everything, it's classic dr who fans. These are the people that get annoyed when dr who documentaries show old footage in a stretched out 16:9.
We will get out power! :)
im hope see this dvd in polan
"Lost from the BBC arcvhives"? Can we stop saying that? The BBC didn't "lose" anything. The either taped over them or destroyed the film copies. However thanks to individuals who made ILLEGAL off-air audio recordings with early tape recorders we can still enjoy these stories; thanks to that and a little bit of animation. Only 97 episodes to go ....
Actually Victory of the Daleks is similar to this hehe.
I just love dr who
(And i am from austria ! Who from you knows were austria is ? ;) )
Not lost from the bbc archives, destroyed.
How did they lose so many of the original shows?
JesusChrist During the 1960's and 70's the BBC Archives had very limited space, thus they needed to destroy old programmes to make way for new ones. This continued until 1978.
JesusChrist No episodes were lost, they were EX-TER-MIN-ATED because the BBC were run by shortsighted dipsticks.
There was no commercial reason to keep the tapes at the time, as home video didn't exist then. Video tape was also expensive, so it would often be wiped and used to record something else.
JesusChrist they didn't lose
THE BURNED MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
1:32 Its just The Doctor not Doctor Who :P
They meant the name of the show.
I know...
Patrick Troughton's Doctor .... who is fun and
António Rodrigues
ive been watching the series for 4 Years 😅 (im from germany, so i mostly watch it in german)
now i feel stupid 😂
evildonkey
i clearly didnt really pay attention to the rest of the sentence
David Tennant 2017 bring him back ## anyone else want the same ? Well copy this and post it over and over lets make this happen.
Absolutely not! It'd ruin the programme. He's the one person they do need to keep away. The programme needs to stand on it's own feet and be bigger than any actor. Anyway if you were going to bring back a past Doctor it should be Paul McGann surely who's only had one and a bit stores on screen? Tennant? What a ridiculous suggestion....
PrankCity Wars you david tennant fan girls have basically ruined the show, why should we bring him back?
best exterminate ever..... when the daleks all say exterminate in a group.
Question what happend to the fan show?
They're called "roundels", Christel! Is this amateur hour?
Am I the only one who ships them?
they have absolutely no power
out amy land xxx
jees. is her delivery supposed to be dalek?
I see they've used the Davison/C Baker era TARDIS walls for the animation. What a shame. No attention to detail.
Nope, some of these backgrounds are early renditions and placeholders. The TARDIS walls are accurate in the finished animation. You won't find it lacking in attention to detail.
That's good to know. So I'll assume it wasn't the inept studio doing this that got so much wrong for The Invasion & The Ice Warriors. Phew.
Hard to continue being a fan of a show that the BBC cares so little about they'd push out this sub-South Park animation and pretend it's the most exciting thing to ever happen.
MMCVI
2106
hmm
i want the tenth planet animated and the war games
lizardknight tech the tenth planet had already been animated. And the war games isn't missing, so there wouldn't be any point.
oh well (damn)
Ok, just one question: The person at the start of this video (in the badly bluescreened fake black & white video)... Is this a man or a woman?
Woman.
For digital cameras greenscreen is used as the sensors are more responsive to green, blue screen is used for analoge film. Also how is a video fake black and white? either it is or isn't?
Finally, why is it apparently so difficult to tell someone's sex purely because of a hair cut?
Cheesy, but alright.
kinda cringe but cool
This would be alright if it worn't for the cringey fan show with Crystal D. Their appealing to a the 8 year old in the new who community e.g. referencing the 50th a special hated by us actual classic fans and the heavy let down of victory of the daleks, simply comparing the cheep and disappointing episode in which I regret watching.. The whole way through it feels like they haven't really watched much classic who if at all and instead got all the facts given on a bit of paper and slipped it in every now and then, which makes things frustrating. Instead I'd rather they let the people who actually suit the role better than these monkeys fit to be on CBBC...
Graphic Visauls Christel hasn't watched much classic series no
But then would it really matter if she had
They would have to still pander to new who fans
Also, the Daleks being humans' servants in Power isn't "like" in Victory, that plot point in Victory is taken from Power.
Vulcan... Wait a minute you didn't rip of Star Trek. Star Trek ripped off you.
I'm not exactly a Star Trek expert, but its first episode aired on 8th September 1966, while this story started on 5th November the same year. Star Trek's script was almost certainly written first.
MrHaloWho was this episode aired on my birthday in the past? I am the doctor
Only The Doctor Who Fan Show could create a five minute program that tells us absolutely NOTHING. Still, I guess it might be enjoyable to four year olds - I assume that's who it's aimed at.
Lame humour, bad acting, no actual content - these people (especially the Play School girl) will fit right in if they want to move into modern television production!
Arthur Hillard well why should they as doctor who fans should know what power of the Daleks is
@@archive9796 then whats the video for
First
The Guy Who Plays Engie And...
