I recently purchased a AH Sprite with a 948 engine and just subscribed to your channel. I'm a machinist by trade and worked on a couple engines so this is right up my alley. Love your videos.

That's a heat tab, remanufacturers put that on there for warranty in case of over heating.
In case of over heating the center of the tab will melt out, telling the rebuilder the engine was over heated.
The hard seats are to stop seat recession, like you have in that head.
And to restore seat heights, thus adding to the short side radius length or depth.
To improve flow through the short turn and flow into the chamber.
Good idea on the spring compressor.
    Take care, Ed.

Headbytes had the idea of nickel spray welding the valve seat area. That way the valve seat area could be rebuilt, handle unleaded gasoline, and be flexible in installation.

Great video.. Just found the site and subscribed.. I look forward to more on the engine work tutorials.. I do have a question about the spring compressor you use. Store bought or made? If available where would one go to purchase one or the parts to make one..
Please keep the videos coming I have told friends and they too have liked the videos..

      Thanks for your kind comments.
The spring compressor is store bought. Nothing fancy. Im sure I got it off Amazon or Summit Racing or equivalent. What really helped me was building the head stand to work from and attach the compressor too. It just screws on to the stand just like it would a regular head bolt.
I’m working on the head porting videos right now…should be out soon!
      Thanks again…
