Thanks for sharing. That’s so interesting how they associate with the goats! I didn’t realize that there were non-heritage turkeys. I hope they grow out well for your family. 🦃

I’ve got ur normal mutt heritage turkeys, one thing is the hens will run off to nest out in the bush. And will disappear for a few weeks. Where they either get eaten or come back with a bunch of poults. They’re nests are pretty difficult to find if you have a lot of brush. They’ll hop over any solid fencing, but seem not to understand that they can jump wire or mesh fencing. They scale 5 foot fences even with their wings clipped but usually return every night if they aren’t nesting.

Good info. Heritage breeds are definitely a different kind of smart and personality. We have another round of meat breed but still looking at going heritage

Great series! Have you had any problems with them escaping over the fence? I know you clipped their wings. Did that end up working? Thanks so much!

We did not have any problems and actually did not clip their wings the last couple of months. Two things I chalk that up to
      1) they learned early they couldn’t fly
      2) meat breeds have a harder time flying anyway because of their size.
These all weighed in at around 26-30Lbs upon processing

@@semojohomestead Thanks so much! I'm thinking of raising meat turkeys next spring and this is super helpful.
