Glad to see I'm not the only one who talks to the wildlife in my native garden😂 Hey Bumble, Lookin good Mrs Robin, what's up mister skunk, love the new wings miss monarch....
Very artistic and with native plants too! Awesome video. I imagine others in your neighborhood will follow suit as they learn the benefits of replacing grass with native plants. So much more interesting. Thx!
we have a couple native sedums in the north east. one use to be a sedum but was reclassified as hylotelephium telephioides. its very similar to autumn joy sedum and my coworker said its the same species, im pretty sure its at least in the same genus. the other one is sedum ternatum which is a nice ground cover type and grows in part shade since its a woodland plant.
I am trying to find a rhythm to creating and uploading. Eventually, I would like to create at least two videos a week but to start I am aiming to consistently release 4 videos a month. If you have any content suggestions, please let me know!
You must have great soil or done a great job amending it. Those plants look so lush and healthy for many being in their first year from seed. Great job!
Thanks! I did zero amending and the soil is average. I used mostly native plants and they love the soil just as it is. That is one of the pros of using native plants.
I love those. They are so easy to grow. I looked up the coneflowers in Florida. They yellow ones are very pretty too! They look like daisies. I read the kind native to my area, echinacea purpurea, are also native to Florida but they are endangered in Florida and can only be found naturally in Gadsden County.
@@MostlyNative Yes, we have yellow (and orange, which are really just yellow) coneflowers. The purple coneflowers are a Florida ecotype - kind of like a subspecies but way more closely related to yours. But they’re not real easy to grow here. And they’re not as large & vigorous as yours. Except I’ve heard that the wild population in Gadsen County are pretty vigorous.
It's a heaven-strip now 😊. Yellow jackets don't bother me at all in the garden, at least that means they're eating pests! It's when they're trying to get all up in my soda can at a picnic that I'm like nah
Beautiful work! Have you tried planting some veg in amongst the flowers? I find that zucchini and okra can look so exotic. Can't wait to see what it looks like this year : )
Thank you! I only planted herbs so far but my goal is to get some veggies in this year. I absolutely LOVE zucchini and definitely want to plant those among other things.
Thanks! I did the lasagna method.. I threw cardboard on top of the grass and threw mulch on top of the cardboard at the end of summer. I grew most of the plants from seed over winter and planted them all in early spring. The cardboard and mulch was all the plants needed. I did not use any fertilizer. I used mostly native plants and they like the soil just as it is so it makes it a lot easier and a lot less work too!
come on, wasps are great! they take care of all the pest insects for you. and maybe theyre a bit more aggressive in general than bees, but they wont bother you if you dont bother them. bumble bees turn into a whole different animal when you mess about around their nest, i was planting near one this year and a few stung me, and chased me down! i didnt even know that they could sting since theyre so docile otherwise.
No, I made a walk way right up the middle. Scroll to 9:49 and you can get a glimpse. I put down 2" of crushed stone and topped it with 1" of sand and put 12" by 12" concrete pavers on top. I happen to live on the non-parking side of the street but when I have guests, they like to drop people off at my walkway to feel fancy :)
HI there! I am going to mulch as long as I have bare soil. I am planning on planting as many ground covering plants as possible so I will eventually have "living mulch." I won't have to mulch at all once I have enough ground covering plants to cover up all the bare soil. The pussytoes in the video is a good ground cover. It maxes out at about 12" wide. Thyme is a good one too and the sedum stonecrop angelina. Both of those were planted along the sidewalk. There was also some strawberry plants growing that I didn't mention in the video. I am winter sowing some more pussytoes (antennaria neglecta), wild strawberry (fragaria virginiana), and a couple of native carex that I plan on adding to the garden as a ground plant too.
What a great use of space. This is one of the nicest gardens I've seen on a normal size lot area! Well done!
That is so nice of you to say! Thank you. I am glad you like it :)
@@MostlyNative It looks like an island of color in a sea of lawns, what an inspiration for anyone walking by!

😁I love it! You made my stomach hurt from laughter!
“Sometimes you gotta check the wasps”. Love your personality.
Haha, yep, those wasps can be troublemakers! Thanks for watching and appreciating my personality :)
Beautiful yard!!! I wish you were my neighbor! So much fun watching the bees 🐝
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!!
Love the names posted over the video. You did a great job with this video. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Bravo for you! Your hell strip looks so much BETTER than the rest of those down your street!
Thank you!

So nice of you to say. Thank you! I hope they do then there will be butterflies around the entire neighborhood!
Taking so much inspiration from your video, and I’m so entertained too 😆

Your hell strip is goals 🙌🏼 I finally got mine going this year. Hoping it fills in as nicely as yours.
Thank you! That's awesome! I am sure it is beautiful. You can always add to it. I found some blank spots in mine I am working on this year.

Thanks for the info! I looked it up and it's evergreen too! I want some.
just imagine if everyone in the neighborhood followed suit. great job
Thank you! That would be amazing. It would be lots of beauty and creatures to explore! I hope it catches on :)
Very nice! I am envious. I'm not sure my city would allow me to put little bluestem in my hellstrip but I'm going to try.
Thanks! Go for it! It doesn't get that tall. Check your local ordinances first to be safe.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Have watched 2 times clear through. So nice and from seed, so impressive!
Many thanks!
Loving the natives! Great job 💚
Thanks so much!
Awesome and informative video. I Would love to tour each section of your yard!
Thanks! Stay tuned for more to come :)

we also have native allium cernuum called nodding onion which is pretty similar to millennium.
Thanks for sharing! I'll have to add some.
This is fantastic! What a great home for wildlife.
Thank you!
Your purple cone flowers are going to be magnificent!!!! I’m in Orlando FL. While we have our own ecotype, they’re not like yours !

Great vid!!! I’m trying to do the same. Congrats!
Thanks! I'm sure it is going to be OUTSTANDING! Have fun:)
Front yard looks beautiful!
Thank you!
Several of the A. tuberosa I started this spring flowered, so it's not a fluke.
Glad to know.. I want to plant more next year.

This was remarkably soothing. Reminded me of Bob Ross almost. Thank you for naming all the plants. Are you on Instagram?
Thanks! Not yet but I do plan on making an account. I will make sure to post it on this channel so make sure you come back and check me out!!!
Bravo
Thanks! Thanks for watching too!!!
Very nice Kellie

I am in Zone 9b Near New Orleans on the coast.
I am growing different kinds of plants & bulbs & trees
ooh that verbena!!
I love the short garden fencing. Do you have a link to share where you purchased yours?
Unfortunately I do not. I bought it from Lowe's. They don't sell it at the location near me anymore but you can try checking there.
@@MostlyNative I did find something similar on Amazon but I think yours is nicer.
@@heatherdoes7849 Lowe's has them back in stock! I just bought 4 more.

Someone else commented that. Okay, okay, I'll lay off the wasps :)
Do people step on them when getting out of cars parked at the curb?
