My friend recently asked me to sing Danny Boy in remembrance of his mother. This was one of the first songs I remember singing growing up. As I sang it I thought about life and loss and really heard the lyrics for the first time as an adult. How beautiful it is to call a beloved to your grave and feel their love still even within the earth. I also thought about the chaos we are all experiencing right now. The pandemic, the riots, the fires, the changes, the unknown, the fear, the anger, the need and the want. Somehow this song calmed me for a moment. I hope it calms you too.

I have been ill, and at 72, will I see her again? My dear husband of 54 years was just diagnosed with the beginning of alzheimer's, but you have made us feel peaceful and made us laugh, A sense of humor is a great gift to have to get us through life, plus God to watch over us. My grandmother on my DAD's side came straight from County Cork Southern Ireland. There were shadows cast all throughout the day and every shade of green imaginable. Thanku handsome. I wasn't the first born grandchild but i was her favorite. She remembered my name over the phone when she didnt recognize her own adult kids, with her last breath. Song sung so beautifully. Thanku. I felt her warmth and gentle love again.
My dad's side was from County Cork too. We could be distant relatives hahaha. Breen is such an irish surname. I love Ireland and yes it is beautiful just a shame I live in Manchester! ❤

So beautiful, I wish my mother was still with us to hear your version. She had Alzheimer's and passed in 2016, but the last couple of years of her life Danny Boy was one of the songs I would play for her because she still seemed to have some response to music when she no longer responded to anything else. We played this and other Irish tunes when her ashes were scattered off Newport Beach. Thank you, Chris, you and your voice are a treasure.
