  • During the reopening of Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford, it was decided that the best way to distance people was to run two short trains with rows divided between them. This led to having two train sets running around the circuit, with one having a steam engine, and the other a Diesel. We caught both trains on our visit, which allowed for over 20 trips per day on the short circuit!

Ok, so I have an interesting story surrounding the USN 50 tonner. When I was small, I was at Greenfield Village near the roundhouse and the 50 tonner was parked there not in use (either the edison or torch lake was out that day) and my little self decided to walk up to the side of the engine and I, as a 3 foot child, managed to actually PUSH THE CLAPPER AND RING THE BELL. An employee came running around and I got scolded but I still remember it to this day. I always loved railroads and that incident changed nothing but is still one of my most vivid memories from my day trips there.

An addition, The last time I was there was around 2017 so I definitely like the Griswold signal they installed. Very nice addition to go with the WRRS, MS C.o. and US&S C.o wigwag assembly out front.

Man the real Gem here is seeing the Tonner on a train. Not everyday the 45 tonner gets to pull a regular train.

Yeah that was in some ways cooler than the steam for this summer! It is however a 50 tonner, not a 45.

The 45 tonner is probably by far my favourite GE industrial switch engine because I love the side rods and counterweights on the outside of the wheels

Sounds like that GE doesn't have an auto lapping brake valve or an equalising reservoir. Sounds like the brake pipe air exhausts right in the cab. I actually remember EMD switch engines like that!

Hey, that's some really good filming you did there. Loved your shots! Just proves you can't keep a good railfan down. Is that crossing signal with the swinging stop sign new? I don't remember seeing it in the past over there near the Firestone farm. It's been a year now since we could go to the village.

I'm pretty sure it's always been there, but I could be wrong. I'm only a good 15 minute drive from the village, so I've gone plenty of times over the years. I'm almost positive the sign has always been there. I love that sign! Haha
