I have a mixed approach to organizing my fly boxes that has evolved as I expanded my fly collection. In the beginning I had only a few flies and everything fit into one fly box. Now, I have lots of flies and need lots of boxes! I try to put like fly types together (dries, nymphs, streamers,etc). That said, I also have a few boxes just for a specific hatch. For example, I have a "hex" box and an "iso" box. Lastly, I have a couple foam boxes as those flies are big and warrant their own time of year and box. If I am fishing home water I also have a travel selection of flies I put in a small box on my lanyard and leave my bigger collection of flies behind.
