I thought I was going to get to see a beautiful Smith and Wesson Model 586 but instead I had to look at a plastic blue box. I'm so sad and ultimately very disappointed. But you do have a nice gun...I think.
Dang, I thought you were gonna show the gun. Amazing deal though man. I see people trying to sell them online for thousands of dollars, very nice. I thought at first it was a classic line 586 with the lock and frame mounted firing pin, but I could tell by the old target grips and conventional latch release that it's an older model. Very nice. I really want an 80's 586 snub.
True. So many buyers do not want the current production S&W revolvers complete with Hilary Hole lock and transfer bar system. I didn't either so I waited until found one online. Keep looking if you're interested. Check estate sales that's where you'll find lots of barely used firearms.
@@texassportsman5880 yeah, I've heard estate sales are a good bet. The gun shop I always go to, back when the original owners ran it, they had buddies who collected and when they passed away, someone would go to their homes and buy the whole lot and seek them at the shop. I have 5 old Smiths now, and plan to add many more along with a few Colts scattered in the mix. Those snub 586's are going for a ton of money because there weren't a lot of them made. They had a special run for Brazilian police that were snub and 38 special only. I can't imagine what those go for now. They also had a run of 4 inch Mod 19's that had fixed sights for German police. Only saw one picture of one, but it looks beautiful and probably costs a small fortune as well.
Unfortunately a lot of guys throw away the box, documentation and tools not knowing or care that when all those items are kept the gun will bring more money if you sell it.
Thanks. It took years to find one this this good of condition. I was a deputy back in the day and traded this exact revolver for a Colt 1911 with another deputy. After a few days I got heartburn and wanted to trade back. He refused. It never occurred to me that I could have gone to my LGS and bought a new one on display. I wanted that one back because after I bought it I sent it back to Smith. I ordered target hammer and target trigger both are much wider than EOM. Their custom shop polished up the inner works and it came back a very smooth shooter. There are days that i get really pissed at myself for trading or selling a gun.
Good stuff. I'd also noted that the Distinguished Service Mag, the 581/681, was even more affordable. It is my belief that the L frame is the new collectible revo, with emphasis on the -4 and earlier models. Great vid, keep up the solid content.
Very true. 586/686, 581/681 -4's and older are all I'd want in those models. They have new ones, but the originals were all started in 1980 and discontinued in 1989 or 1990. Sucks they only made them for a short time because autos started taking over around that time so they gave up those models. I love many pre-1990 Smiths, but not much after that. The original Airweight stainless guns are cool if they are a no dash, but with the coming of the -1 for all of them, they started making changes I do not like.
4:00 minutes of the box and the paperwork and :41 seconds of the pistol. Kinda weird.
I have another video of the revolver.
Dream revolver. So nice.
That’s not a surprise at all. $279 in 1982 had the same buying power as $740 today... and that’s about what that gun would sell for today.
Yep just paid 762.00 after tax ....jan 19th 2021

Very nice pieces of paper. Wow!

Why do you have the gun covered through out the video.
it was more about the paperwork than the revolver. I have other videos of the same revolver. Check them out.
Those NRA 5856 are 1900.00 now. I just got one a 586 prelock. Paid 762.81 after tax in Wash State
I notice you don't have the cleaning kit that came with the 586, I still have mine, but it has been used.

I bought my first Smith in 1983. A model 28 4 inch, paid $123.00 retail ...new in Box
I bought my S&W model 19-4, 6 inch for $199 at my LGS in Iowa back in 1982. Oh, how times have changed!
Nice looking 586..
