the guitars on this track are nothing short of otherworldly. from the subtle, cooing, whale-song intro to the ferocious fading solo and literally everything in between. if this isn't a bona fide fucking masterpiece, then what is?
Seen the Man from just a few feet away about 6 times live, Schenker when sober and in the heat of his playing cannot be compared. Very unusual style, signature talent, and still playing, never got the recogniton in Scorpions, U.F.O. or and of the renditions of M.S.G. He never really broke it big in the States, always plagued by some issues, bad managment, booze, divorce etc.. A incredible tune here! thanks for posting the studio version.
Fuck man, have not heard this in a long time. I don't know why, but all of a sudden this song popped up in my memory, and there was no escape, I just had to hear it. Still sounds up to date and freakin' heavy. A real classic. Should be in everybody's classic rock list. MSG Rules.
Schenker set the bar very high on this song and brought an amazing musical line-up together for a real tour-de-force. A product of a bygone era that will never be again. Most guitarists these days would have been fighting to be his guitar tech in the 80s if they were playing during his time.
I've stood in time, wind and rain I have no feelings or name, But I can see, I can hear, The voice of death is shouting in my ear! Making war, making love You know what I'm thinking of How many times the traps are set, You can't remember, and I can't forget! Can you see me now, can you feel the pain, Can you heal the scars on me Life within my heart, hope within my soul, is dying! Bid farewell, the works of men When cries of anger sound again My tears of shame, cut like a knife, How can I justify this life! Can you see me now, can you feel the pain, Can you heal the scars on me Life within my heart, hope within my soul, is dying! My mind is searching for reasons why A time to live or die If we had now what we had then Lost horizons might return again... Can you see me now, can you feel the pain, Can you heal the scars on me Life within my heart, hope within my soul, is dying! Lost horizons...
This song has no equal. Schenker has the incredible ability to play with impeccable emotion and timing without the need to exercise unnecessary speed to impress like other guitarists. It's all about the creativity of music from start to finish and the fact that Foster and Phillips play along with the same virtuosity that helps to create this perfect song exemplifies the greatness of this band.
I met him back in 91 at The NAMM convention in LA I guided him around to the Carvin booth it was surreal I hung out with him for about a half an hour he was more than a gentleman
I didn't know he had his own band but a band formed by one of my favorite vocalists did a cover of this and now here I am. looks like another piece of the puzzle I've been missing for years
One of the most emotional and memorable songs in rock. Michael had left UFO with two very significant guitar records, then he managed it a third time with this record. Like Ron Nevison, Roger Glover helped get a shattering performance from Michael. Gary's lyrics work PERFECTLY. Heavy rock is one of the most emotional of music forms. We know that, but many seem unaware.
what got in the way for Schenker was debilitating alcoholism that seemed to sabotage himself every time he was on the verge of breaking thru. Sometimes ppl can be their own worst enemy and that has never been more true than for Michael. He was on That Metal Show recently and was clean and sober and for his sake as well as ours I hope he stays that way.
IN 1981 - I SAW THEM FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ST JOHN'S ARENA HERE IN COLUMBUS , OHIO WITH CHEAP TRICK WHAT A CONCERT , THINK OF THE GUITARIST THAT NIGHT IT WAS MIND BLOWING , I WOULD PLAY TO SEE THAT AGAIN
The woman on the album cover is Peter Mensch girlfriend - Peter was MS manager at the time. The man on the back of the album cover is Gary Barden. Both of these facts came out in a recent interview MS did to promote the new album due out soon.
Outro solo in this song at 4:41 reminds me of Randy Rhoads outro solo in "Tonight." Coincidence? Nah! Randy was definitely influenced by MS. Love them both!
I absolutely love the bass and guitar interplay that begins around 3:22. The phrasing and feel are BRILLIANT. Truly genius . . I appreciate MS as a player even more now than I did when I first heard this back in the early 80s. How can he not be in the rock hall of fame?
OK OK Daniela, but to pay tribute to your fav artist, shouldn't you start with spelling his name correctly ? I guess you wouldn't appreciate it if someone would write Zandanter ?
***** respect and spelling are like hand in glove. I wouldn't mind it in another place in the comment, but names should be spelled correctly. That is not an I - like - rules stance, that is elementary politeness
Saw the tour for this. Michael opened for Cheap Trick. Cozy Powell on drums, which was cool, in a weird way. I think Simon Phillips was a HUGE part of this record. You can hear Michael, during solos, really feeling Simon's accents. But Cozy is OG, too. "Life within my heart, hope within my soul... is dy-y-y-y-ing..."
Very good. I'm being a tad flippant. It was always the drums that did it for me in this track. That is not normal drumming. That is a truly great drummer. Not to mention Michael and everyone else. But what a drummer. Blows me away every time I listen to it.
I came here when I found out it was a cover, and now that I know schenker had his own project I have something else to look up lol. Thanks Messiah for helping me find even more missing music
Just one of those albums that has set the bar in my mind for all others to rise up to. Was 18 when it came out, drove nearly the entire month of November with this album, and this song in particular, keeping me in the moment right before going to San Diego for boot. Loved driving from the CO and the UT border east towards Palisade, CO on I-70 with this song blasting. Sometimes with the window down and just enjoying the cool air, the Grand Mesa, and life in general. Just a beautiful memory.
Simon Philips (drums) and Mo Foster (bass) - same rhythm section that was on Jeff Beck’s There And Back, which came out around the same time. Two killer albums that were in heavy rotation for me at the time!
On a universal level, Micahel should have been larger than Clapton or Page. Chicago has always been a hot spot for u.f.o, and M.S. As far as Mogg, Parker, Way, etc.. I never said they were jerks, however, musical contributions, melody's, inspiration, the especial qualities were lacking in there previous works, prior to Schenker, and frankly after his departure. Yes, he has tripped over his ego before! His contributions to guitar, particularly the Euro-metal movement, Maiden etc. are paramount.
David Topchiev NICE! Having only the cassette in the 80's there was no info about the other players. We always suspected it was Simon Phillips! Thanks man!
Without a doubt, his drinking and substance abuse were detrimental to his health, career, playing and person. However, often times when poised for a "break-through" poor promotion, managerial complications, meager radio airplay etc... contributed to poor recognition, and notoriety. As stated in a previous comment, Booze, ego, relational contentions were impediments to "large scale" success. I agree it is good he is sober and hopefully will remain so.
the guitars on this track are nothing short of otherworldly. from the subtle, cooing, whale-song intro to the ferocious fading solo and literally everything in between. if this isn't a bona fide fucking masterpiece, then what is?
I remember buying this album in my high school years and playing it everyday and still cranking it today....
One of drums line best all time.
Fantastic bass track
Guitar work absolutely brilliant.
I was devastated when he left UFO and then I heard this and I thought its gonna be alright.
GREAT GUITARIST
Still makes me shiver!!!!

PERFECT....the intro... the timing... the vocals... the adlib....REALLY AMAZING...
Msg n ufo most underrated bands of all time... absolutely magic
40 years and their music still rocks
Fuck man, have not heard this in a long time.
I don't know why, but all of a sudden this song popped up in my memory, and there was no escape, I just had to hear it. Still sounds up to date and freakin' heavy. A real classic. Should be in everybody's classic rock list.
MSG Rules.
Yeah it`s like 30 some years old.
Seems like yesterday.
Classic Schenker kicking out some brilliant rock and roll.
Timeless, excellent music is timeless. I had to hear it today so I listened to it a few times.
My favorite Michael Schenker song. Haven't heard this this since around '82 - my loss. Thanks for the upload.
Schenker set the bar very high on this song and brought an amazing musical line-up together for a real tour-de-force. A product of a bygone era that will never be again. Most guitarists these days would have been fighting to be his guitar tech in the 80s if they were playing during his time.

Thanks for posting lyric 🎵🎼🎶🎸😎👊
Gary is such an underrated lyricist!
Thanks!
I grew up on this......and it still moves me
Amen

I would agree 100% - actually beyond incredible guitar playing....
I met him back in 91 at The NAMM convention in LA I guided him around to the Carvin booth it was surreal I hung out with him for about a half an hour he was more than a gentleman
You are spot on. The genius of his playing and Simon Phillips playing on this song is unmatched. This is a tour de force of mastery.
Check out the version he did on the 30th anniversary tour.
The outro solo is one of my favorite guitar solo's of all time, almost no one can put that emotion, feeling and virtuosy into his play.
This song is the best movie I've ever seen in my life..Schenker is God 🤘🤘
I didn't know he had his own band but a band formed by one of my favorite vocalists did a cover of this and now here I am. looks like another piece of the puzzle I've been missing for years
Boy have you ever
Fantastic guitar solo - drums coordination.
If there was a guitar war Michael would be my top gun forever.
They'd be suffering and wanting to die!!!!!
Incredible guitar work.
Fluid, electric, melodic, spiritualized
This is the song that made me fall madly in love with Michael Schenker. Thanks for the post. One of the sexiest metal songs ever. \m/

Awesome album, I played it relentlessly when it came out...

Yeah, now you get Vampire Weekend or some crap.
An old love of mine I always return to. The lyrics still speak to me, the drums are fire, and Schenker just setting my soul on fire. 🤘🏼🖤🔥
the guitar tells the story
Truly awesome, superlative guitar work, in fact, the whole song is a masterpiece, and one of his greatest moments. !!
He is the inheritor of the title to Ritchie Blackmore & Randy Rhoads was the prince.
Barden..........the golden voice
My second favorite line from this song.
"If we had now what we had then
Lost horizons might return again...
The woman on the album cover is Peter Mensch girlfriend - Peter was MS manager at the time. The man on the back of the album cover is Gary Barden. Both of these facts came out in a recent interview MS did to promote the new album due out soon.
Still get goosebumps. My desert island record
Outro solo in this song at 4:41 reminds me of Randy Rhoads outro solo in "Tonight." Coincidence? Nah! Randy was definitely influenced by MS. Love them both!
He shall deliver us from pain, and into glory
Great song!

Mo Foster and Simon Phillips man. Some of Jeff Becks old bandmates. Check out Simon in Uli Jon Roths tribute to Jimi Hendrix 1991 recording.
@Roadking26 Very true. So many thrash/speed metal guitarists got their chops listening to Schenker.
Schencker was, is and will be the best!!!
OK OK Daniela, but to pay tribute to your fav artist, shouldn't you start with spelling his name correctly ? I guess you wouldn't appreciate it if someone would write Zandanter ?

"Life within my heart, hope within my soul... is dy-y-y-y-ing..."
Cozy Powell didn't play drums on this album, he played drums on their follow up album MSG and One Night At Budakon
Definitely a rock god!
the immortal Michael Schenker
Absolutely fantastic!!!
Master slave of your guitar. Congratulations, you are the best.
he is the greatest of all time............
Like all these awesome bits of rock, without the drummer it would be nothing.
Very good. I'm being a tad flippant. It was always the drums that did it for me in this track. That is not normal drumming. That is a truly great drummer. Not to mention Michael and everyone else. But what a drummer. Blows me away every time I listen to it.
EPIC TUNE ....ANOTHER BLAST FROM THE PAST
memento mori covered this song perfectly
I came here when I found out it was a cover, and now that I know schenker had his own project I have something else to look up lol. Thanks Messiah for helping me find even more missing music
This is the song that made me fall in love with Michael Schenker. One of the sexiest metal songs ever. Thanks for posting this. \m/
This. Is. APOCALYPTIC.
Nice way to put it. The End of all things. Mercy

Thanks for sharing your beautiful memory. Mine was not quite as majestic rather mundane but equally memorable.
should be no dislikes on this song
That sounds like something I would say only nicer
They are probably Bieber fans :-)
Cozy Powell was a second to none session drummer who everyone wanted extremely talented and a nice guy RIP
Simon Philips on this
Drumming was awsome..
Simon Phillips
Simon Philips (drums) and Mo Foster (bass) - same rhythm section that was on Jeff Beck’s There And Back, which came out around the same time. Two killer albums that were in heavy rotation for me at the time!
@@PaulLannuier Same here. And Stanley Clarke's 'Rocks, Pebbles and Sand'.
Phillip's drumming on this album is fantastic.
The Guitar God.....
that electro sound combined with guitar... man
Awesome song..
In the beginning was the word. And the word was "epic".
The Schenker's Stargazer.
Michael is a freaking genius.
Muito bom!! From Varginha, MG (ET Land) - Brazil
Mais um das Gerais? 🙋🏼♀️
It's perfect
U can't remember, but I can't forget!
EPIC!!!!! Schenker own this as usual..
On a universal level, Micahel should have been larger than Clapton or Page. Chicago has always been a hot spot for u.f.o, and M.S. As far as Mogg, Parker, Way, etc.. Great song

Hot damn how come I haven’t heard this before mind blown love it totally rocks
Memento Mori's cover of this song brought me here.

David Topchiev NICE! Having only the cassette in the 80's there was no info about the other players. We always suspected it was Simon Phillips! Thanks man!

Great metal Song!

awesome track
