  • As Wyoming’s elected officials, legislature, and state agencies prepare to reoccupy the Capitol Complex in Cheyenne, Our Wyoming takes a look at the years-long renovation process. Former Governor Matt Mead, Capitol Oversight Committee Chairman Tony Ross, and Governor Mark Gordon discuss the building’s importance to Wyoming, why the renovation was so necessary, and what it all means for Wyoming.

In the past week, I toured the Capitols in Cheyenne, Denver and Pierre. Cheyenne was my favorite by far.

I don’t live in Wyoming, but visit as often as I can. The people of Wyoming have always made me feel welcome and their pride in their home is always evident. This project reflects that pride.

I lived in Cheyenne during the 70's. My dad was one of the JROTC instructors at Central High (When it was downtown, and after it moved.) I went to St. Mary's school downtown, real close to the capitol. I spent a lot of time down there, walking from Central High, to the Library, to St. Mary's, all around there. The Capitol building itself still looks the same, but that building north of it is new from when I lived there... It is so beautiful. I miss Cheyenne... I really want to move back, but I just can't take the COLD anymore...

Another fine example of lost Tartarian history. We are to believe they built this absolute masterpiece during a time when Cheyenne had a population of less than 15,000???? At a cost of less than 5 million in today’s money? During the horse and buggy era with no electricity, heavy equipment or power tools? Just digging the foundation would be a monumental task... Too ridiculous to believe!
