Yes, standardclip is among the best if not the best. You can dive deep into the configuration of the filters and set a high degree of offline oversampling for cleaner sound when you need it. It's my master bus clipper for sure (128x OS for printing a mix/master). But I agree completely, and this is the "secret" of pro producers: clip or saturate or limit most of your channels (that need it) to reduce the mix down crest factor. *Then* you can use a gentle limiter and/or clipper on the master bus to get any level of loudness you want. This is Skrillex's "secret" sauce. BTW, I subscribed as it looks like you know your sh*t^h^h^hstuff. ☺️
Great videos by the master. you make videos about such important subjects that no one talks about really showing how things work and how to get better! THANKS ALOT!!
Your videos are the best out there! I really like them! Maybe an Idea for a future video: Sound design ideas and strategies for single hit sounds like stabs, impact, delay sounds, reverb hits etc would be really interesting!
I know Im asking randomly but does someone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I somehow forgot the password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Walter Marcel thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
It would be amazing if you would make a short video about the levels of your different BUS Channels or just some information about for example how Hihats, Snare, Synths and Kickbass should be in the mix in terms of -dB
Hello Marko! This is a great video! I was wondering if if would be possible to have a video where you explain a bit more what you mentioned about mixing in low levels vs mixing in higher levels and or in your experience what are desirable levels for the mix between rms and peaks etc. Thanks for another awesome video.
Amazing Eclip as always ! This mixing before mastering videos are so so valuable to me im learning heaps and enabling a way fatter master. I would love to see more mixing tutorials like these on how you set all the levels of your sounds and carve space for them in the mix. Would especially like to know how you have hi hats snares kick and bass and psychedelic sounds playing with atmos all at the same time. Fitting in that many things at once is something i struggle with. legend !
I just implemented this technique from another UA-camr. Both videos had great explanations. I feel as if this technique really brought more character to my mix, I was able to tame it, yet bring it out if I choose to. You definitely achieved more RMS than myself. Id have to go back try clipping some more! But then again after I clipped I still added gain in the plug in (gclip)
Great video, thank you very much. Uses with STANDARD CLIPPER a lot. There is something I don't quite understand about using it. When I put the CLIIPER for example on a drum loop, it adds bass to the channel. And when I cut this bass with EQ at 'Zero Latency' the peaks come back. Only in the 'Linear Phase' mode the peaks do not return and I cut to lower the bass. But I don't always want to use 'Linear Phase' for the reason that it adds pre ringing. I would like to hear how you solve it? Thank you for all the information you share with us.
I do not recommend clipping the low end with the clipper, I personally never do it as it saturates it pretty much and I do not like how it sounds. I use it only for the mid/high range.
@@EClipChannel Thank you for the answer. I'm not talking about the bass or lows end . I mean that the clipper action adds bass to the HH and any instrument I use with it. And then the problem that I described before arises.
@@weirddosestudio7776 yes that’s right. Actually removing lows on the hihtas after the clipper solve that, but that’s the reason why i recommend adjesting crest factor with limiter. Limiter sound more transparent.
Excellent tut. 👌🏻👌🏻 pls make tutorial about creating those dist. Pluck and crunchy sounds like dist. Guitar sounds commonly used in psytrance trax , thanks ❤
Yes, It's a cool plugin. I wonder, what can you say about Newfangled Saturate? They call it spectral clipper & psychoacoustic overdrive. So it's a clipper as well, that sounds very clean. Maybe you can share your experience with it? Thanks!
Just to make it a bit more clear, a clipper (soft or hard) is better used during the production/mixing/mastering phases, right? I mean, I was trying to properly apply soft clipping and hard clipping using mastered songs and all I can do is to ruin the great final work they did... ...I think we can't turn something "perfectly" polished and properly finalized into something better. This tool seems to demand spiky transients and bigger crest factors a bit. Right?
@@marceloribeirosimoes8959 i don’t use it on the whole mix (master channel) i apply it to individual elements, mostly high transient elements like hi-hard, plucks… only group where i use it is hi-hat & percussions group!
@@EClipChannel Great! Yeah, Clippers, mostly HARD ones, are great at shaving transient spikes. A clever way to attenuate the limiter work and its "side effects". The Problem is how they deal with tonal material. So, there comes the soft clipper, the saturation, limiting, or compressing. Thank you very much!
I would like to know your opinion of black box HG-2MS. I think it's amazing, but I'm dismayed that it doesn't seem to have any oversampling capability. Maybe it's always turned on? Aliasing distortion can be a good thing sometimes, but I don't like it on the master bus of I can avoid it....
Hi Brian. I do not think i have sti downloaded the try of BlackBox. Especially i have stoped buyin plugins when we stayed without the gigs and main source if income stoped. I wanted to try it but still didnt download trial version. I might do it soon.
Haha Just purchased the one today. Amazing magical peice of equipment. I have found with these effects, its best if your very light and have 1-2 dB of clipping or gain reduction. It makes a massive difference. Serial Processing also helps if you want to add more and helps you not overcook it.
I don’t see the point of parallel processing for this technique, but it’s the matter of taste. How much reduction should be set deppends on the goal. Some challels more than others depending on the source as well. P.s. in this video i didn’t go in detailes of StabdardClipp, point was just to make basics.

Leave at lease 5db of dynamics, this way everything can go wrong really easy. Sorry if i made a confusion, but i did try to explaine in the video that i was just dooing the test, and that this is realy extreme.
Well, a standard clip doesn't have anything similar to a compressor. You could compare it with a limiter, as the compressor is working totally different. The compressor will reduce signal that goes above the threshold level. It will reduce the signal regarding the ratio, so if the ratio is 2:1 or 4:1, it will reduce the signal differently, but still will leave the signal to go over a threshold level, just depending on which ratio you set, it will leave different amouth to go above the threshold. StandardClip will reduce only the transients, and it won't compress the whole signal. It will eat up transients in an excellent way, while with a compressor, if you set attack anywhere beside 0, it will not touch the transient.
