I smear the red stuff on the lid around the hole first , making sure it’s making a good bond then fill in the hole. I don’t wait to tap with paper towel . I pressure cook it to cure gasket to lid stronger.
You can run at it and it will not pill back at all from lid. I make lids with only a injection port for spore juice.
