      Sherpa at that price is fantastic. You can increase the number of USB out with a 12 volt car USB adapter. Thanks for watching brother!

    I just picked one up for $80 that was slightly used. Super stoked as I've been wanting something I can recharge headlamps, batteries and walkie-talkies in a disaster situation.

    Looks like a great product. Unfortunately, the sun no longer shines. It's gone. Maybe they can develop a product that generates electricity from rain and cloud cover

    If anyone is looking for a pouch/sleeve, I found that the "Lacdo Shockproof External USB CD DVD Writer Blu-Ray & External Hard Drive Neoprene Protective Storage Carrying Sleeve Case" for about $9 is almost perfect for this. The Sherpa 50 with inverter fits almost perfectly...just the slightest stretch to deal with the 1.50" thick unit as you move the zipper around corners, but there is no stress on zipper once closed. Great padding and protection for it.

      Thanks brother. I also really like the Sherpa 50 for around 80 bucks shipped. I got mine for 99 when they first became discontinued as always wanted one however was too expensive. Charges very fast via wall outlet or solar. My power outage backup as we lose power during storms sometimes for a week.

    Love the stand on that Goal Zero. Is it adjustable to track along with the height of the sun and time of day? Wish my Renogy 10 one. Still trying to figure out an inexpensive "bracket" to hold the panels flat at different degrees of angle. Love the Renogy you turned me on to. Thanks again

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  5 років тому +1

      It just swings out. I think Biolite makes a more adjustable system with even a way to measure the best angle. Truth be told I prefer to use a log or bag and adjust by eye. Also if leaving at home or in-camp I direct the panel facing the shy I expect the mid day sun to be. This way I can get the best hours of the day. The Renogy is much like the Goal Zero in terms of construction but simpler and less expensive. Glad you like it.

    Goal Zero is kinda like the solar equivalent of iPhones. They're solid, reliable but a bit too expensive and they have proprietary connectors.

    • @grannieannie1371
      @grannieannie1371 5 років тому +2

      @@dcentral to me it's Renogy. Or maybe even Polaroid. Or if you're in the US Jackery. Renogy is a lot cheaper in Australia than goal zero but Jackery is probably your best bet in the US. Check out both brands. Either us very reliable and well made.

    Hi, thank you for a nice video, I am actually about to buy it for my long term hikes, but I have seen plenty of one star reviews on amazon. People say that when get cloudy or they went to room and then back outside, panel didnt restart and didnt start to charge again. Same when clouds came and then got away, panel stoped charging and then didnt start again. Did you find something like that? True is that these roviews are mostly like 2 years old, maybe they fixed it up? Thank you for sour answer, Karel :)

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  5 років тому

      I heard there was a bad batch of 8mm to USB adapters but can't verify. I tested with my iPhone SE and AirPad 2. Also multiple powerbanks and USB battery chargers. Seemed just fine though sometimes there were variations in how fast the restart occurred but it does work or at least mine does. The ECEEN does an auto restart function every 3 minutes which is totally fool proof with anything as it doesn't depend on input levels to trigger a reset. The Goal zero seems to work like the Renolgy I reviewed. Restart based on input levels etc etc. That said my advice is to charge a powerbank first. You will lose some energy in conversion but they tend to solar charge faster during the entire process and will never reject a charge opportunity so are basically more reliable than a direct charge.

    Where did you source the solar intensity and usb power meter from?

    So the Sherpa can only charge up with a goal zero solar panel? I want one but goal zero is way overpriced compared to other companies....anyone try to charge the Sherpa with other solar panels? Thanks!

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  5 років тому +1

      I bought them both on deep discount. The Sherpa can be plugged into a wall outlet with power supply and charges at a fast rate. No standard USB power in so unless the panel has what appears like an 8mm plug it is a no go hence why I bought it for my Nomad. Thanks for watching.

    How do magnets work🤔

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  5 років тому +1

      They're magnetically attracted to metal plates in the detachable pack pocket however glue and solar panels don't mix. For example the ECEEN stand support was also glued to the back of the panel and it just fell off so I used velco which even that glue gets softer with the heat. I often use my pack or a stick to angle them. Thanks for watching!
