I had the exact same issue trying to cast a child shoe AF1, the silicone got stuck in the laces so a little part was torn and at some places it didn't cure either. Do you think by mixing more rigorously and seal the laces we could avoid this inconvenience ?
Hello, Thank you for asking! And Yes this has been bothering me for long time and I have consulted Smooth-On and their official answers are: 1. Spray paint your shoes with an acrylic spray and make sure any pass-throughs such as the holes around the laces or any grommets be filled with a little modeling clay 2. Another option would be to harden the shoes with another product like Epsilon PRO or XTC-3D. 3. Instead of pouring your rubber over the shoes you should stipple the first couple of layers on using a chip brush that has had it's bristles cut down to half length. Allow it to tack up and then pour the rest of the rubber behind it. 4. It will also get behind anything loose so to do this you'd really need to get the laces pretty much glued down to the tongue underneath and the whole thing should be hardened for best results. I think we don’t need to do all the above but a combination will do, hope this helps!
super cool, also interested in purchasing! Question, would you be able to put cement in the mold? What would you have done differently so that the silicone doesnt stick to the laces? maybe put hair spray on them or something?

Couldn't you just do a thick coat of wax on the laces?
