At 3:14 is KIRO's first news anchor, Sam Rinaker, who also started the news department at Channel 11 in Tacoma when it took to the air in 1953. He became well known in San Diego as the newscaster at KOGO in the '60s and early '70s.
Okay, we are going back now: remember when J.Ps side kick was Mel Content, and J.P had another children's show on KIRO, but he wasn't J.P. He was an Italian butcher in the show, And Craig Sreve (SP) was his partner, Sreve (SP) later tried his hand at acting down in Hollywood but can't recall the name of the show. It was in the late 50s as I recall.
@5:23 "N.B. of C.?" I'm guessing that was a commercial for a National Bank of Commerce, but KIRO was a CBS affiliate at that time, so using anything with N, B anc C together like that was asking for trouble IMO..
Yes, NB of C was the National Bank of Commerce of Seattle. Its name changed to Rainier Bank in the mid-'70s and was acquired by Security Pacific Bank in the late '80s. Most of the surviving branches now belong to Bank of America.
Too bad about no audio, but this is indeed a rare look at KIRO in the early years. I thought the news set was odd, with an oldtime desk to the left and a modern tv desk to the right. Not sure what the point of that was, except that is all they had...these were primitive times in local news!
It looks like the smaller desk was just for the weatherman to deliver live commercials. In those days, the newscast, weather report, and sports report were almost separate programs. There was little or no chit-chat between anyone on camera. It's likely there were no wide shots showing the difference in the two desks.

I was a cub scout on J.P.'s show at the Queen Anne location. I remember they gave us comic books and candy after the show.

First time I've seen this and I forgot JP's door was stage right. When did the door move to the other side of the set, anybody know?
Probably when they moved into the brand new "Broadcast House" circa 1969, on 3rd just southwest of the Space Needle, still their current location.
