【バーチャル旅行】「ウサギの島」広島・大久野島でウサギと癒しの時間｜Feeding Rabbits on Okunoshima Island, Hiroshima

今回は、広島県竹原市にある「大久野島」を訪れ、そこで暮らす可愛いウサギたちに出会ってきました。この島は「ウサギの島」として有名で、約900匹以上のウサギが自然の中でのびのびと暮らしています。歴史的には「毒ガスの島」としての過去を持つこの島ですが、現在ではその歴史を学べる施設とともに、ウサギたちとの癒しのスポットとして人気を集めています。
広島県の忠海港からフェリーに乗り、大久野島へ向かいました。フェリーは忠海、大久野島、大三島を結ぶルートで、多くの観光客がこのウサギたちに会いに訪れます。島に到着すると、右手に進み、発電所跡地付近のエリアを散策しました。そこには何羽かのウサギがのんびりと過ごしていて、持参したキャベツや乾燥バナナをあげてみました。最初は警戒していたウサギたちも、徐々に寄ってきてくれ、美味しそうに食べる姿がとても可愛らしかったです。
この日の天気は晴れで、夏の日差しが強く感じられました。暑さ対策として、日傘を持参して正解でした。大久野島は木陰も少ないため、夏に訪れる際は日焼け対策や水分補給が欠かせません。また、ウサギたちにあげる餌も持参するのがおすすめです。生野菜や乾燥野菜が特に喜ばれるようですので、準備してから訪れると、ウサギたちとのふれあいをより楽しめると思います。なお、島に渡る前に買っておく必要がありますので、ご注意を。

This time, I visited “Okunoshima,” a small island in Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, known as the “Rabbit Island.” The island is home to over 900 rabbits that freely roam in a peaceful natural setting. Although the island has a history as a former poison gas production site, today it is a popular tourist destination where visitors can learn about its past while enjoying time with the adorable rabbits.
We took a ferry from Tadanoumi Port in Hiroshima to reach Okunoshima. The ferry route connects Tadanoumi, Okunoshima, and Omishima, and many visitors come here specifically to meet the rabbits. Upon arriving on the island, we headed to the right side and explored the area near the old power plant ruins. Although there were only a few rabbits in this area, they happily ate the cabbage and dried bananas we brought along. At first, the rabbits were cautious, but they gradually came closer and enjoyed the treats we offered. Watching them nibble away was simply heartwarming.
It was a sunny summer day, and the heat was quite intense. Bringing an umbrella was a good decision, as the island has limited shaded areas. For those planning to visit in summer, I recommend taking precautions against sun exposure and staying hydrated. It’s also a good idea to bring snacks for the rabbits, as they particularly enjoy fresh and dried vegetables. By preparing in advance, you can make the most of your time interacting with these friendly creatures.　Please note that you need to buy it before you go to the island.
Okunoshima is a unique place where visitors can learn about history while being soothed by nature and animals. Whether traveling with family or alone, this is a must-visit spot in Hiroshima. The rabbits’ adorable behavior is sure to bring a smile to your face.
