  • I have built dozens of heavy-duty workbenches over the years to support my Robotics Company. This video gives you an overview of how to build your own Heavy-Duty Workbench. This Workbench is estimated to hold up to 600 pounds. Follow along as I show you the steps. Chris Rogers is a robotics expert and president of Inspectorbots. "We build a range of custom and stock robotic platforms for a wide range of industries". For more info please visit us at www.inspectorbo... or write: info@inspectorbots.com
    I am selling the plans for this workbench for USD$20 E-mail me if you want them.

    I have watched quite a few video on how to do your first workbench for DIY’s and this is by far the best one I’ve seen. I’m a first timer and will be doing my first workbench and I think I’m going to do mine just like this workbench. Great job! Wish me luck!

    A great no-nonsense approach, guys. People laugh at the lag-bolt fastener approach, but lag-bolts are incredibly strong as mechanical fasteners go, and they'll allow a person to dismantle the workbench pretty easily, too. Looks great! :)

    Finishing up building this - I nicknamed it 'The Beast'. Made a decision to keep it 8 feet in length and add two additional inner braces for the top and the shelf. Super solid, and just what I needed.

    I built this thing, twice! First time I tried to compensate for uneven garage floor. Still didn’t work so I tried leveling feet. Those looked like a POS. Scrapped it, bought new lumber, and then built it on a level surface. Added more surface by extending the braces and table top 2” ( from 28” to 30”). I agree it’s a lot of lag bolts and a little more expensive, but it’s a badass work bench! Thanks to the guy that posted this.

    I've built essentially the same workbench in all my homes over the years. Only two big differences...since I don't want the work bench to move I start by attaching a 4x4 horizontally to my garage wall with lags, then I build the rest of the workbench around it. This eliminates the need for legs on the back side. For the top I lag 2x10s in place then glue on a sheet of tempered Masonite. This leaves me with a perfectly smooth flat surface without screw holes. I change out the Masonite every five years or so as needed.

    Nice job and very practical design. Only thought for possible improvement would be to not put that permanent trim around the edge. The MDF gives you a great flat surface. But, over time, stuff can happen to it as you work and it may be nice to be able to replace the MDF without having to contend with the glued up sides.

    My 2 cents. The bench is a great balance between functionality, cost and construction difficulty. Some others are not strong enough or way too complicated or costly. Great job and good video. I love the absence of blaring electric guitars. That is one reason I like to go out in the shop, to get away from that kind of stuff.

    I don’t know, I built a 2’x8’ workbench about 35 years ago. (I was snowed in and bored). I built it of a half sheet of 3/4 plywood and some old 2x4’s and 4x4’s. Just what I happened to have in my basement. I barely had enough. But that bench is strong enough to drive a truck on. I still use it. Every few years, I clean and repaint it..

  • @mlwadester87

    Only issue I see is with gluing the trim. If you ever want to replace just the surface then you'll have to tear the entire top off. Why not just glue the trim the the base and then lay in the mdf? Seems poorly thought out in that regard. Otherwise, very durable build.

    • @BobC59
      @BobC59 4 роки тому

      A table this bad-ass, why have trim at all? For my needs, the 2x8's will make a fine top. Or I might skip them entirely and just drop something on top of the frame...

    With all the lag screws used , Thought you'd make a more solid butcherblock top with boards on their 2" sides. What's a few extra boards cost, already spent enough with lag screws. Maybe even could of used extra long lag bolts acroas to build your butcher block ?

    I just made this bench. I was looking for a workbench design so I could house all my tools and equipment for crafts, amateur woodworking and sewing stuff. Of course mine is not as perfect; my table top length is short by 2 3/4 inches cause I can't measure accurately to save my life, so when they cut it at HomeDepot I gave them the wrong measurements. There is a tiny bit of wobble, but overall it's fantastically stable.

    Some inconsistencies between your bill of materials and images in the video. For example, 2 x 6" verses 2 x 8" boards for top. About the cost: the 86 lag screws alone would cost over $200. OK for tie-in to legs, but maybe overkill to secure the braces. Could use deck screws and save $150. Other than that, a good plan.
