This song is a masterpiece, a mini 12min 9 song album to end the greatest album of all time with the same beat that leads right back in to the first track To All The Girls.....
No Sleep Till Brooklyn is a good transition song for the Beastie Boys. Certified classic! 💯 Don't forget Get It Together ft Qtip tho. Unique track. Loving these reacts, keep it rockin!
the Beasties were punk band before they were rappers. 1979-1980. In 1981 they were getting into hip hop. They still would pop a punk song in EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. There was no switch. They were two punk bands from the 70s and HAD NO RECORD THEN. COOKIE PUSS is their first release, and that was in 1984.
Love the appreciation &🤍you have for the BB’s.Great to see it.. Keeps me coming back daily ..🔥40 yrs ago damn near since this music entered my subconscious mind and never left .. 💯❣️
As a chef you should know what Bouillabaisse is. It's a fish stew made up of a bunch of different fish and ingredients that are added at different times that results in the best outcome. So it's essentially the best of the best from what they decided to keep and mash it all in to one.
The album Some Old Bullshit collects all their hardcore punk songs, and then adds the Cookie Puss single, when they switched over to hip hop. This was before their first album. Cookie Puss is a hip-hop influenced novelty song, but it got some play and inspired them to transition over. A good move. Hardcore punk continued on but mostly it was exhausting itself by the mid-80s. I can see how hip-hop was new and fun and seemed limitless at the time.
Also, a good Beasties punk song to try is Mullethead. It was a B-Side from the 4th album but I think it’s my favorite hardcore track by them. Great riff and energy.
A lot of younger listeners may accidentally miss two early important songs by the BB. Both refine the rock/rap formula which helped their propulsion (and the intake by all the young white punk rockers into the hip-hop house) First is 'Rock Hard' which samples a rather well known source, and the single release 'She's On It' complete with typical Beasties ill-era vibes video. ALSO worth searching for are 'Unheard Unreleased Rare Beastie Boys track' which despite the title isn't a song, but rather an ind-studio practice prob at the 'Ill sessions as you hear Ad-Rock practicing and refining his iconic 'Weeeellll' and my favourite - search for 'Beastie Groove' - I'd a b-side from their Def Jam period. Remarkable due Ito the quite frankly outstanding rhyming - I'm, talking Ad-Rock spitting genuine double-time - and this was the mid 80s! It's quirky with a wandering tempo too. Just a little gem.
You know they produced full Instrumental albums? I'm sure you do. They did Punk Albums. Rock songs. Funk songs. They sampled others when you could. They mixed with MC's. They picked up instruments and played their own beats. They did so much. I'll request a song from their mature years... An Open Letter To Nyc
The last shout out they do at the end of "AWOL" is "Original Concept in the house". Original Concept was a rap group who featured Dr. Dre (not the one from NWA) and T Money from the TV show YO! MTV Raps. This Dr. Dre was also the first touring DJ for the Beastie Boys.
They beat boxed AFTER it was popular and on purpose. They always did the opposite of trends. You have to listen to the last 16 minutes without stopping. Hard to do on a reaction, I know.
New Sub because of this reaction. Keep it up bro. I first heard of Beasties in 87 I think. I saw their live show Awesome I Shot That tour in San Fransisco. It had so much bass that my pants were vibrating and my ears were ringing for 2 days. It was unbelievable. Old School rapper Doug E Fresh came on stage with them. 1st have of show was them rapping and 2nd half was them jamming with their instruments in a super funky groove. Glad you picked Beasties!
Rock Hard and Beastie Groove were their first true hip hop songs those came out 84 or 85. Cookie Puss came out in 83. It was a spoof of Malcolm McLaren's tracks. They also did some quasi raegee on that (a producer stole it for a commercial and got the boys enough cash to rent an apartment in Manhattan.
