Cowell couldnt tell the difference between a flat note, and a five pound note. He is all about a quick buck, conning the pocket money out of young girls with his autotuned bedroom singers . One direction being a case in point.

They all say the same stuff.. you get to pick from a list of songs and they make you have a backup or 2, and guide you on clothes n hairstyles etc.. but that's basically it. Oh, and AGT has the best contracts lol

I went to a taping once and they also spend the first hour just filming the audience reacting in different ways “everyone look shocked!” “everyone pretend it’s the best thing you’ve ever seen!” to splice in as reaction footage lol

He didn’t even let her sing much of it. The Etta James song is overly used for auditions.
It doesn't matter if he knows what he's talking about. This is an audition. He can still hear the talent no matter what the song is. They aren't cutting a record here. The only purpose of an audition is to see if they are good enough to go further and he could tell that even with the poor song choice.

The song only did not work because of the back ground track and her stage presence/confidence just needed to come out and I’m glad they allowed her to do a second song (staged or not ) her voice was amazing regardless, and she was and is so beautiful . She would have done great at the song spotlight had it been to the actual back ground track, unsure why they would even play that specific background track to begin
With definitely didn’t sound like the back ground track she brought with her. which was probably the part that was staged. so like all the judges and set producers probably knew they would do that to her but I do not believe she knew her back ground music was gonna be changed because she looked surprised and nervous at first, (besides the fact she was singing in front of millions), yet notice she just went with it :) but when he stopped her (which she probably knew that would happen but not the music change ) and gave her the second song you can tell by her stage presence, confidence, and the way she rocked it and blew it out the water that really showed not just her potential and talent but also showed me that only part of it may have been staged “for excitement “ but I believe she was truly surprised when the back ground music wasn’t the same she had probably brought with her. I’m sure she knew about being stopped and asked to sing another song though and maybe she knew which song it would be but idk she seemed sincere and with these shows like the X factor, American idol, Americas got talent, Britain’s got talent etc you have to go through a few “basic” non celebrity , professional singer (meaning they went to school studied music or they are some what famous but not as famous as Simon and them ) judges before you get to the big stage to audition in front of Simon! Not a lot of people know you have to go through other judges first to get to the big stage. My point is Even though some things may be staged there really isn’t enough time for them to stage it and rehearse the staged set before having to air live on a set date and time :)

Simon is definitely a star maker. Maybe he cannot sing but he got an ear for good and potentially good singers/singing. Talents and giftedness comes in all manner of ways.

Etta James is phenomenally hard to cover, maybe because she used her heart, soul and talent. For a 15 years old she did a better job than most adults with years of singing behind them. She has a great voice, stunning looks and maybe more importantly loving, supportive parents.

As much as he's spotted potential, he's also killed lots! Good thing Jennifer believed in herself & never gave up, & Simon even admitted that saying, 'I was wrong about Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson'...he even sent her a message before the Oscars, "What you have done is literally extraordinary."

Some songs don't turn out good to sing for other people while it turns out to be best for others. The first song was not suited for her voice but the second one was morethan perfect for her.
Her voice is so rich for such a young one. Under the right guidance she'll be unstoppable when she's grown

THIS is why song choice is so important. If a song doesn't match your voice, or more importantly, if you don't connect with the song on a personal level, your performance will suffer.
