It's not the kind of spinach we grow in the west. It's a different species of asian origin. Basella alba, malabar spinach, vine spinach, Ceylon spinach and Indian spinach are some of its names.

I'm also wondering and my mind tells me that it's some nourishment juice for the spinash. It looks like he cut off sweet potatoes and cellery and probably the juice seeps into the ground. He bored holes into the plastic bottle and watered it!

Haha, the Vietnamese name for water spinach is "rau muống". It's a tongue twister, but don't worry, growing it is much easier than pronouncing it!
