LOVED this creative and strategic design dissection. So engaging and intriguing. Movie posters and book covers are challenging design mediums that have to work very efficiently, cohesively, quickly, and creatively to capture the viewer's interest. The "Cobweb" poster reminds me of work we've done in your courses... sweet. :) Also dig the glitch effect on the font used in "cat person" - further adds to the visual story and mystique. I always learn a lot when seeing how a designer of your caliber dissects posters and book covers - please do a few more of these type of videos. Your tutorials are top notch, of course, but hearing your thoughts on the mechanics of published designs is just as valuable. Thanks Rikard!
One of the keys to mastering any realm of endeavor is having the opportunity to listen to - and in your case - view the subject under discussion while you help walk us through your thinking processes as to why or why not - it may have been "close but no cigar". I agree with your opinion re the Sly poster. It would have been stronger if the shadow hadn't been twisted at an angle but rather encouraged, let, led the eye directly up to the man, rather than making us overcome the distraction of having to deal with the affectation they interjected so they could fit the text in; a little dab extra of creativity could have solved that problem. I, personally, did not like either the Cat Person or Bama Rush posters - from a purely emotional, visceral level I found them both distasteful and nonsensical and rather than drawing me in - making me wonder what this is all about - caused me to reject the imagery outright. Thank you for sharing this in depth analysis - the time you spent thinking about it shows and shines forth! Happy New Year!
