I wish this video was more in depth. I found both an affordable EV3 and NXT so I was looking for a comparison between what you can build. I might just go with what I've got experience with and that's the EV3.
Tried EV3 in my school's robotics club today as bunch of new EV3 robots arrived just today(I GOT TO SORT ALL THE PIECES AND PUT TOGETHER THE ROBOT HELL YEAH) and to be honest, I like NXT interface, looks, and programming better.
hmmm, I still have the nxt 1.0 set. I never bothered to get 2.0 as it looked like a huge waste of money for a very small upgrade. I'm not sure if ev3 is going to be the same again. Should I get ev3 or get 2.0 now it will be cheaper? or do I wait for the next generation of mindstorms before splashing out £300?
You can upgrade your nxt 1.0 brick to 2.0 from the lego site for free. You can also buy any sensors you want from bricklink site, improved sensors from hightechnic site, or even buy other third party sensors like vernier. You can still do so many things with nxt 1.0 and 2.0 that it is too early for the ev3 yet.
not because its an collectors item , we use the nxt at the universety as a platform for coding lessons because the nxt is perfectly documented, the ev3 is very badly documented and has no good software support

It's always good to get the latest upgrades but they are pretty much the same thing. Of course the EV3 has a few upgrades and gadgets, and the style is a little different. If you are not on a budget get the EV3 if u are looking to save a buck the NXT is still a great option :). Just don't let your memes be dreams!!!!!

I can say that in terms of function better is eEV3, but nicer appearance is nxt 2.0. Programming between them had not changed a lot... This is just my opinion.

EV3 is sooo much better than NXT and after writing that comment I went straight to lego.com and learned that an EV3 ultrasonic sensor was being sold separately on the online shop
Thanks for the info, i will probably look into picking up an EV3 set and the additional sensors after i have a decent laptop again. I always wanted the cooler sensors for my RCX as a kid but could never justify the additional cost now I'm older i don't have to justify it to anyone accept my self.. i think i should be fairly easy to persuade lol, just need to get a reasonably paid job next
The rechargeable batteries are not compatible and they are very expensive If you want to use the NXT battery in the EV3, there is a solution, but it will no longer be usable in the NXT. The charger is the same. The tutorial is here: ua-cam.com/video/-v08-6jZXGo/v-deo.html

What LEGO should do is provide a python API and cross-platform NXT-brick drivers. Yes, I want to play with NXT on Linux, no I don't need this stupid IDE and bloated code packages.
