The clue in this story, besides the greatness of the Bulgarian people is, tha Boris was the owner of Bulgaria indeed, not due to his power, but due to his huge, enormous, incredible popularity. Take him out and you loose stable Bulgria. That ìs why the Boris himself is the main saviour of the Bulgrian Jews.

The Jews of Bulgaria-proper were saved in spite of Boris, not because of him. If Boris was not confronted by the Bulgarian people, the Jews of Bulgaria-proper would have ended in Treblinka, where Boris sent the Jews of the "new lands".

We have an insane amount of amazing stories, worth filming, people who would now be an inspiration. And they don't need to be changed and made more interesting, because they already are almost incredible. The thing is our country is quite unpopular. People either know nothing of it, sometimes that it even exists, or for some reason our reputation is horrible.
Our national heroes, our rulers, battles - take any event or historical personality, start to read, and it's stunning. I am not saying it because they are part of the history of my country. I am making comparisons. Hollywood makes moves of these amazing people, and when you start to read about them - half of these stories are made up. Take any famous Bulgarian - they have better, more interesting stories. Take the Vazov family - generals, war heroes, mayor of the capital, the most important writer of the Bulgarian literature, then a minister of culture... Take Elisaveta Karamihailova - Poland has Marie Curie, we have Elisaveta. The story of Yana Yazova alone would make a movie that Hollywood would dream of. No need to add details - her story has everything. Capitan Petko Voivoda - a hero for 3 countries. The story of Miss Stone Affair and the men in it- the American woman who was kidnaped in Bulgaria at the beginning of the 20th century - there are books about that. It's an amazing story, by the memories of the woman who lived through it. And I am not even mentioning the national heroes and revolutionaries here. Yet, for some reason, we are unpopular as hell. Also our self-esteem as Bulgarians for the most part is.. well a bit shaky. We still believe we are sort of the leser people of Europe with not much to offer as a value.

The Bulgarian army was half a million men and literally didn't loose a single battle during both world wars. Bulgaria had the strongest army on the Balkans. The main problem was the lack of good aviation but even then - the massive bombings over Bulgaria done by the USA and England did not make us capitulate. All of our pilots sacrificed in the sky. The disadvantage was 50-1 and yet still made enough damage that the bombers could not hit the vital civilian targets that they wanted. Yep, they attacked only civilian targets. Nevertheless, they were very well prepared on land, despite the technically less advanced weapons.Hitler could've crushed Bulgaria - no problem, but if he didn't had to fight the Red Army. The Bulgarian army actually defeated the Germans at Drava Czechs. They hold their position vs the Third Reich for 7 days and they were outnumbered 1:8 in manpower and 1:3 in artillery, then 133 Soviet Brigade came and we defeated them in 7 days. And that was 1000 kilometres away from Bulgaria. My point - Hitler's situation for the last 3 years of the war was really difficult and he could never in a million years loose the Balkans. If the whole army defended the country he would have to send at least 2 million soldiers only to deal with us. Most of the time during the war he could not afford to loose Bulgaria as an ally. Why do you think he called Tsar Boris - "The Fox" :) Anyway, amazing lecture, thank you so much for sharing this knowledge. It was amazing to watch trough the whole thing. And some people say there was no fascism in Bulgaria... Greetings and good health!
P.S. Bulgaria exited the pact with the Third Reich on 9.9.1944 and gave 30 000 fallen soldiers against the Germans at Drava. Still after we saved our Jews and after never attacking the USSR, neither Britain or the USA, we could not get status as an Ally.

Interesting fact - Batman was also from Macedonia, because he was born in Prilep("prilep" means "bat" in Bulgarian(Macedonian) and its a city in Macedonia). What you can usually hear from "North Macedonians" is: "Умрете, бугари! Вашта мама татарска!" which basically mean (Die, Bulgarians! F**k your Tatar mother). This is just who they are now, sadly. Daniela, Bulgaria is full of people like you after 1944. First, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in 1922 issued an official statement about the false teachings of Roerich's follower and occultist Elena Blavatska - Peter Deunov. Peter Deunov excommunicated himself from the church and was called the forerunner of the Antichrist. Boris III was an Orthodox Christian, as was Peter Deunov's father. Stop spreading myths and legends, and refer to historical documents, okay? Boris III's sister Evdokia was a follower of Deunov, but not Boris III. We all know who Rudolf Steiner, Blavatsky and Roerich are. Wasn't Blavatsky the one who called Lucifer the true savior? Wasn't Deunov the one who declared himself Father? Insane...

@@sonyastefanova5785 Do you think that calling Peter Deunov the Antichrist means that he is really that ? As far as I know, Peter Deunov was excommunicated by the Church. Don't you know that at the time of Jesus, the official church (Pharisees and Saducees) rejected him and called him a follower of Belzebub ??? Use your logic. Peter Deunov has done a lot of good works to his fellow countrymen, and he has helped save the Jews, I know that ; I also know that king Boris used to seek advice from Peter Deunov. If you don't know, ask people who know and they will tell you

Excellent speech. However, some remarks. 1. The communists participated in the underground organization of some events against the Nazci actions mentioned above. 2. After 1944 the communists created a new highest position in the Bulgarian orthodox church, patriarch. BTW this position was also present in the First and Second Bulgarian empires. Metropolit Kiril was the first Bulgarian Patriarch up to his death.
