It's so hard not relate to this song on such a personal level. It's beautiful but it's also real. It's literally begging for fortune after nothing but misery but presented in such a positive frame of music that it's like fresh air. I had such an experience listening at this song...
Once my (ex)boyfriend played The Smiths in the summertime and I told him: "what are you doing? The Smiths are for the autumn or the winter, the rain and the night..." so he stopped. After half a year he played this song. As the song started, it started raining; as the music went up, the rain raised, and when the song finished, the rain, suddenly, stopped. I was in tears, and asked him: "did you realise what just happened?" ...and he didn't, I was closer to the kitchen open door...
This song is a prayer and, in that very moment, I felt that for once in my life what I wanted just happened, God (or whateveri it is) listened at me, and answered.
