    I'm setting up the Freeman 2300 VTOL, another VTOL from Makeflyeasy. They also provide the parameters and an Arduplane firmware version for the Freeman. Did Ben also get the parameters and the Arduplane version from Makeflyeasy for the Fighter? Was this what he used to set up and fly the Fighter ?

    WOW ! I don't know what to think. Hi Mr. P , I just love flying FPV, 50 years of fly these little guys, and I love flying my Wings, but your right it's not for the Hobbyist. But I still would love to fly it at least once.

      A little too much money for me to relax and enjoy the flying but I'm still looking for a cheaper twin motor tail-sitter that I can use the make a VTOL series on..

    I would have thought 2 motors would be better, ducked fans, inside each wing for lift, roll and yaw and a horizontal bidirectional (to enable cg compliance), tail rotor for pitch. This would reduce drag and component count.

    I wish there is a possibility to make proper vtol like this one in the video with INAV.

      Not yet. Quadplane (or similar) is what most of this stuff is using = ardupilot.org/plane/docs/quadplane-frame-setup.html?highlight=vtol

      @@Painless360 Ya it seems that way. Very encouraging to see him using the Herelink as well, we use those on 2 of our mapping/inspection rigs and I have been very impressed with them for the price. (plus I hate DJI and I love open source lol)
      I might have to start on a prototype now that someone has done the flight testing for me ;) lol

    would it be possible to make the quadcopter propellers have variable pitch like those fancy helicopters so they can turn into extra lifting wings instead of drag?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  3 роки тому

      They exist but are fragile and expensive

  • @KashifJarwar

    Those 4 vtol motors would have been causing lot of drag and once transition to plane mode, do props position themselves for least drag or just left where they were stopped ? BTW Very Interesting.

    • @TheWebstaff
      @TheWebstaff 3 роки тому +1

      I thought that but if it's getting two hours loiter time can't be to bad..

    • @KashifJarwar
      @KashifJarwar 3 роки тому +2

      @@TheWebstaff yeah, that's pretty impressive for such type of Plane. But, i think they should design these vtol aircrafts in such a way that vtol motors are used in forward flight. It will also reduce the drag.

      @@KashifJarwar then if the transition mechanism (servos) fails you're done.

    • @KashifJarwar
      @KashifJarwar 3 роки тому +1

      @@Carlcox89 yes, there is nothing perfect in every aspect. But, i think twin motor flying wings have great potential in this category. They can use motors with combination of control surfaces to achieve stable flight in vtol mode. There are no tilting mechanism to fail.

    • @frankyflowers
      @frankyflowers 3 роки тому

      they probably rest in whatever position causes the most drag. what would be best? free spinning or pointing lengthwise? maybe a different prop design and variable pitch could make the lift instead.

    Would be interesting to learn more about how these non-hobbiest planes are being used.
    Is it just mapping missions, or are there other uses like carrying special payloads?
    I see the novelty of 4+1 eVTOL when launching from a confined space, but is there any operational reasons for 4+1 VTOL beyond launch and landing?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  3 роки тому +1

      These larger, expensive models are used for mapping, surveying and lots of other professional uses. It allows for flight from a much smaller footprint. I'm still looking for a decent, cheap VTOL model to try it out with.. still no luck yet!

    • @AerialWaviator
      @AerialWaviator 3 роки тому

      @@Painless360 Thanks.
      Cheap VTOL will be relative, as at minimum have 5x motors, ESCs, etc. before airframe choices.
      Kind of like 3" vs 7" quad, the cost of motors, FC, etc., (non-frame) is very similar.
