i got in twice.first as a freshman.i had 1310 on the SAT 1(770math,540verbal,and old SAT 1),I had a 640 writing, 740 math 2c, and 570 spanish on the SAT 2, and I was admitted as a civil engineering major.I had a weighted HS GPA of about a 3.9..and I only took 2 honors courses and 2 ap courses in all my HS days (spanish 4, math analysis, AP Gov, AP calc, and no honors english classes). i got admitted the next time as a lower division transfer from ucla, which is a lot harder, w/ only a 3.1
Davis' engineering program is really good. Civil engineering is really good here too- there are lots of civil engineering firms around and in Sacramento. Career fairs usually have plethora of civil engineering internship opportunities. A lot of its other engineering majors are rated highly.
Actually, UC Davis graduate school for chemical engineering is rated really well. It's about even with UCLA. I'm planning to apply to chemical engineering graduate school soon. There are few universities that have such a biochemical engineering program (we have classes and lots of professors working on different projects.) I'm actually a biological systems engineer, but I am taking/took some chemical engineering classes this quarter.
depends on ur grade and most important;y ur personal statement as well how you as a student took advantaged of the resources that was provided at ur schhool.
@mshyper12 of course. you can have like a 3.5 and lower and get in if you're lucky. just work your hardest and you'll get in! do community service hours and get great SAT scores.
I'm looking at vet schools and UC Davis seems really cool. Is it best to go from UC Davis animal sciences to UC Davis veterinary medicine? Or would a student coming from another undergrad school have the same chance?
I got accepted as well. So where is it around Sacramento? And how long it will take me to get there from San Jose? Also I got into their engineering school is that competitive?
@ilyforever023 I just graduated from UC Davis. Here's my opinion. Because it is out-of-nowhere, you lack connection with the outside world like UC Berkeley or UCSD, especially if you plan to work after grad. As for on campus food, a peanut-butter sandwich is $3.5 at the Silo. A bottle of 99-cent Arizona Tea costs $1.25. Academic wise, the professors hold lots of office hour to help you, but they will make the questions you ask won't show up on the test. TRUST ME, I AM A FIFTH YEAR.
it's kinda in the middle. it's not as hard as say UCSD, UCLA, or Berkeley. But being eligible to begin with is the key. If you got a 4.0 and good SAT scores, you're prolli a shoo in. But it is a Top 50 school, 44th in the nation according to US News and World Report
well.....unweighted for sure you'd get in. but for a weighted gpa and average SAT scores...it's up in the air. i think it really depends on the major you apply for. i'm a civil engineering major, and i don't think that's as hard to get into as some other ones. i'm not exactly sure which of Davis's programs are top in the nation, but i'm sure it's much harder to get into those majors. Just like berkeley, your chances are reduced if you apply to be an engineering major.
can u elaborate on that? If they'res something wrong with this school, I wanna know bcuz Im tied between two other great colleges right now. Eliminating one would help.
Misael Villeda how was your journey to davis as a transfer and how are the classes and housing like. Im a junior in highschool and trying decide which path to choose when going to davis.
@JumboShrimp87 Animal Science is about the hardest program to get in. Of my undergrad I only heard one person major in it. You definitely can do it, but I don't believe there is an undergrad major adviser for it, though I might be wrong, you should double check.
@budda10000 That's an overstatement. There is no business degree in Davis. The closest is Agriculture Resource Economics, which is about agriculture and farms,
@MorrisonIli Davis rank #23 in Psychology. There are a lot of people majored in Psychology. A good number of them did not do well in Economics or Engineering, so they changed their major to psychology. It is a lot easier to graduate, a lot less units. You must try to fail.
@MotoUSMC craziest party? I definitely don't think so man. There is nothing to do here, even Rite Aid closes at 8PM. North Davis don't even have enough street lights to bike home.
I see your point, but I don't consider 110 degree summers as spoiled. To each their own I suppose. My two cents is that if you go to, or work for UCD than it's okay their is no point to pay the outrageous prices for the ugly homes here. I'll take the Bay Area, traffic and all.
@budda10000 UC Davis still a very good school. But it is boring and dominated by hippies. You have to fit the type to live here. If you are from NY or SF, you won't be used to here. People follow the rules and they are very stubborn. I get pissed driving in a 30 mph zone, because everyone drives 25mph. It's annoyingly slow, especially if you are late to class.
@norcalhella mediocre school for mediocre life, if being not homeless is what you are looking for, UCD is more than enough, but that is not enough, with the education I got from UCD. How many successful people have graduated from UCD? And also, the whole hippie scene just bothers me.

yeah im wondering if uc davis is good for electrical engineering as well? or which other uc's are good for electrical/comp engineering
Well have you visited Sacramento from San Jose? It's that much of a traveling time minus 20 minutes. Btw, you should go visit the campus.
can anybody tell me the about the genetics program at Davis and some of the opportunities that the department offer in terms of internships?
