Still Absolutely LOVE this Movie. Summer 2005 was 8 years worth of anticipation for me as a Massive fan. I remember it though being a movie NO ONE it seemed but me was hyped for or even knew was coming out.

It just goes to show what a good job Hollywood had done of misdirecting the franchise. As a kid in high school, I was so excited for the 89 Burton film (never before had a movie been so hyped) and while I enjoyed it quite a bit, it felt like diminishing returns - drastically - with each successive film. Returns was "better" than 89 but already felt like they were getting too satirical, or goofy/bombastic, and then I didn't even really bother with the Schumaker films (I did catch the last one in the theater, but basically out of absolute boredom and with the lowest of expectations - it didn't even matter that it was a Batman film). By the time they started getting the Hype Machine churning for BB, it felt like they were really trying to beat a dead horse. Superhero movies were already kind of moved on from Batman (with Spidey, Hulk, X-men, Fantastic Four etc) and it didn't really feel terribly appealing to investigate a Batman take along those better-than-mediocre lines (not to shit on those movies, they were good, but just feeling a bit stale at that point). IGN kept running fluff pieces that felt kind of try-hard, and bland. On top of that "Batman Begins" just felt like a "we have to explain this to you!" too directly of a name - just call it Batman again and let it stand on its own two feet! The thing launched and there was some hubbub about it, but even as a huge Batfan from my childhood, couldn't really bring myself to care. I did finally check out a low-quality DVD rip or cam-capture or something several years later (never watch a movie like this!) and thought "oh this is okay" but honestly, catching it many years later on streaming and finally sitting down and watching it in its entirety, in top quality, did I finally recognize it for the absolutely mega-cool bitching Batman film that it truly was - and perhaps the best of the (very well-done) trilogy.

I always hold this entry of Batman high. I don't remember much buzz for it before it's release and went to see it with a friend not expecting much. I was completely blown away by the time the film ended! It was the first time I felt like "Batman universe" could be real along with Gotham and it's villains.
It was a case of perfect timing, really. The world was looking for a hero to believe in, and Nolan formed the perfect template. I loved The Batman, but this one lit the spark (along with X2) for how a comic book story could be told to captivate viewers.

Lol Katie Holmes is NOT that bad in this movie. I think people can’t separate their disdain for the actress and her dating Tom Cruise from her actual performance. Same with Denise Richards in World is Not Enough. People who knew her as a person thought the casting was stupid and she “couldn’t act” anyone who didn’t know her saw a gorgeous Bond girl who delivered her lines way better than a lot of Roger Moore era Bond Girls and was just fine

I remember watching this movie thinking it was gonna be a prequel to Batman '89, but I quickly realized it was something new, and wildly entertaining. I don't think this movie gets the credit it so rightly deserves, cuz some people don't even realize that it came before The Dark Knight. Plus I love how the movie handles the humor without resulting to the laugh out loud moments that we would eventually see in the Marvel films. Sure Christian Bale wouldn't have been my first choice as Batman, but he fits for this iteration of the character, and Christopher Nolan is one of the greatest filmmakers of our time, and I feel this film was what got people talking about him

I thought this was an awesome Batman movie. It's a shame Scarecrow was barely in the film and the costume looked bland. Cillian Murphy was great as Crane.

I also like THE SHADOW film with Alec Baldwin (a character that pre-dates BAT MAN) not as high tech, or with as many gadgets, BUT dark & nocturnal with that maniacle super natural laugh, who is able to frighten his enemy's using hypnosis "clouding their minds" he also received his training in Tibet n the Orient from a Sage/wise master. A very classy unappreciated film

Anthony Hopkins is Welsh not English. Don't worry most Mexican's don't know that.

I really hope after enough time has passed, they dub over the lispy batman voice in the trilogy. It's the only real knock on the films. It's not so bad in Begins, but it is in the others.

I actually preferred Katie Holmes version of Rachel Dawes than Maggie Gyllenhaal's. I think the chemistry between Holmes and Bale was much better.

Can we take a moment to admit Victor was portrayed the best in the Gotham show?

I remember how I felt walking out of Batman Returns and I swore I wouldn't see another Batman movie and I was right until Nolan came along.

My problem with Katie Holmes was her age, not her performance, actually. She seemed far too young to be that high up in Gotham's chain of law enforcement.

Of two minds with this film. On the one hand, I enjoy this origin story take on it, I like how Bruce finds his motivation in how Maroni taught him how feeling pain does not have to regulate to oneself, and how he ultimately finds value in not trying to kill for the sake of not losing himself in that madness . And the other hand is pretty much when he's batman and it oddly doesn't feel quite as interesting then, along with Scarecrow given an absolutely stupid end (I'm still salty about that after all these years.) the action and editing were pretty bad, aside from the initial attack from Batman, and ultimately ends on a less than satisfying note with not questioning the murkiness of a kill you let happen, even if you didn't do it yourself. All in all, still very much recommend it, but it's admittedly off for me, I know that's hard for me to explain. Also it's kinda interesting how this film was angling at a Blade Runner feeling with Gotham, and I never got that sense, especially when the films went further into the realm of *realism* later. I got more of a Blade Runner feel with "The Batman" of this year, 2022, than I did with Batman Begins.
